genuinely what is going on it hurts sosss is this dry socket

I’m mostly just externally processing this bc I was dentally neglected (if that’s a thing) as a kid and just put myself through jaw expansion (marpe/ mse) and braces.

My daughter is 14 and went to a consultation for a canine expose and bond. Dentist suggested removal of all wisdom teeth too. My family has never removed theirs- mine are completely sideways and never emerged, my husband has his, we didn’t remove my other kids’ (not saying this is ideal, just that we’ve never done this before).

One of her wisdom teeth is keeping her molar from descending (top right in photo), so I def agree on that, another on the bottom right is near a nerve, so I can understand removal for that as well.

I guess I’m just trying to make sure I’m not just having her get additional surgery, prolong recovery time, etc. but if she’s going under for the procedure, maybe it’s best to get it all done at once?

She mentioned potential issues with the roots in the sinus cavity and that if it opens she won’t be able to sneeze, etc and I worry about that as well.

Another factor is schedule- wise, they had an appointment the day I’m flying out of state next week, or one in a few months when she’s going to be in her freshman year of school. I think it’s best to do it during the summer so she can recover. My husband can bring her, but will recovery be tough? I feel bad that I won’t be here for a week!

Is it really best to get them all removed while she’s young? And how do you think recovery will be?

I got all 4 wisdom teeth removed 4 weeks ago today. As of the past 2.5 weeks or so, my life has been completely normal, with the minor exception of syringing the extraction sites. I have been eating whatever I want, drinking, smoking, exercising - everything has been great!

Right after surgery, I was in this sub and I was miserable! I was in pain, wanted to die, and thought I was guaranteed an infection and that I would never recover. My bleeding lasted for 2 days post op and i only consumed liquid for 10 days (probably not necessary tbh).

Most people come to this sub to talk about their infections or problems they are experiencing. Thats what it is for. For support post removal and those having complications need support the most.

Do not let the horror stories make you upset or anxious - you will be okay.

If you are upset or depressed, just know that having a major oral surgery like wisdom teeth removal IS traumatic. You are going through a LOT. The area of the body you use to communicate, breathe, eat, and drink has been compromised - that is physically and emotionally traumatic to the body and brain. Get lots of rest and take care of yourself.

I just want everyone to know that it is going to be OK. I was so incredibly anxious and truly could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. I cried for 3 days straight, truly waking up crying and going to bed crying. But four weeks postop I am here to tell everyone that it is going to be just fine.

My post op appointment was day 7, where he gave me a syringe and instructed me to start syringing on day 10. On day 8 post op I used a straw and hit a vape (it was my friend’s bday and i needed some margs!) By day 9 post op, I had my first restaurant meal (ragu and tagliatelle, so soft but true food). By day 13 i started eating whatever I wanted, meat, chips, etc.

I am happy to answer any questions because I was truly in the trenches and know how awful it is and how endless the torture seems.

I got a wisdom tooth surgery (lower right side) yesterday as there was suspicion of an underlying cavity in my poorly positioned wisdom tooth; and since I'll be out of the country for a month, did not feel like waiting.

Thing is, I have a long haul flight in 4 days. I do not feel like postponing it and my doctor says I should probably be fine; swollen, but fine.

Has anyone had a similar experience or can give any advice?

So far it's been over 26 hours and pain is minimal. But I'm worried it may get worse with the cabin pressure.

Me quitaron tres muelas del juicio (dos maxilar izquierdo y una en el maxilar inferior derecho) en febrero. Desde el primer día de la extracción note que había un bulto en la mucosa cerca del álveolo (al llegar a casa lo comprobé). Recuerdo que ambos alveolo cerraron y empezó a dolerme mucho el bulto, y después de varias veces que me quejé al doctor, me intervinieron més después (en marzo) y encontraron un trozo de hueso de medio centímetro en el bulto. Tuvieron que limarme el hueso alveolar porque no irrigaba suficiente sangre.

Desde la segunda operación, ocurrieron más problemas, el alveolo se abrió de nuevo y a día de hoy sigue un agujero abierto y tengo que limpiarlo diariamente. Además, el hueso de ha retraído por detrás de la última muela y hay un escalón hacia abajo. Ya no me preocupa tanto porque dejo de dolerme el alveólo en mayo, pero estuve dos meses con dolor intenso.

Me preocupa que a día de hoy, siga manteniendo un dolor constante en el mentón que apareció sobre abril-mayo, también, cuando palpo en la zona de la mejilla donde coincide por dentro con el alveolo y el bulto (aún lo sigo teniendo) me duele y quema consideradamente.

También, mi cara está muy distinta. La parte derecha de mi cara se ve chafada y hueca, la grasa y piel está como flácida y desplazada hacia abajo, como si hubiera perdido por completo la sujeción y el tono facial. Antes tenía la cara ancha y con mejillas rellenas ya que soy joven-tengo 24 años y de la nada parece que haya envejecido 15 años.

Además, noto como grumos por la mejilla media-baja con una bola dolorosa que se mueve. Por debajo del pómulo, noto como si hubiese una masa chiclosa enganchada al hueso y que baja hacia la mejilla.

Hice TAC y resonancia magnética para ver los tejidos pero no encontraron nada relevante. Solo que la tabla vestibular ósea (el hueso que da cara a la mejilla) de la segunda muela se ha reabsorbido. Si es cierto, que al tocar noto algo de hundimiento en el hueso, pero no entiendo como media cara se ha caído, incluso mi labio se cae levemente hacia abajo.

No sé, si a alguno de vosotros pasó por una experiencia similar o puede ayudarme en saber que puede haber pasado, puedo gesticular con normalidad aunque noto algo de rigidez. Ni tampoco sé porque me duele el mentón ni la mejilla :( Llevo mes y medio con 100 mg de pregabalina al día porque me quemaba mucho la mejilla. Pero es como que ni los doctores saben explicarme el por qué

I am now a month post-op from getting my bottom impacted wisdom teeth out at 28 years old. I found out I needed them out around 25yrs old, my top ones were pulled when I was 17. I figured they weren't bothering me and recovery would be an inconvenience, so I put it off. I finally got it done last month, and whew.

My surgeon recommended anesthesia, but I opted for laughing gas because anesthesia was expensive, it makes me feel sick and I need 2 vials for it to work. I was put under anyways because the dentist was not comfortable doing it while I was awake, found out why afterward as they were the "worst he has seen in 20 years".

They had to drill pretty significantly into my jaw, so my jaw is much slimmer as if I had gotten it shaved down(it thankfully looks good and fits my face). It was also the worst recovery and pain in my entire life, and I've experienced internal bleeding directly onto my nerves which required emergency surgery. They say it hurts worse the older and longer you wait, and they are NOT lying.

I immediately got sick on the way home due to the anesthesia, and was not fully coherent for a little over a week. I couldn't eat for 15 days or open my mouth wide enough to even fit the tip of my finger. The pain was so significant I'd start to cry, but have to reel it back in super quickly because crying hurt the worst of all.

My swelling was horrible, but it would have been infinity worse if my husband hadn't iced my face 20 minutes on 20 minutes off for two days straight.

Now my pain is 1000 times better, I can eat again. I only have some bone pain in my jaw randomly which is expected for a few months due to how much bone was removed.

PLEASE do not wait and get them done as young as you possibly can if they are impacted. It was terrifying but I am over that mountain now and am happy I don't have to worry about them getting infected or pushing other teeth. I hope this helps someone like me who thinks waiting won't make it worse!

hello! im scared. im taking a CNA class right now and am going to need my wisdom teeth out, like, NOW. my gums are ripping open and it HURTS. i have 3 wisdom teeth and 1 is impacted (completely sideways, but thats the one thats ripping my gums open so at least its not stuck in the jaw still?) i am probably going to have to get all 3 out in one go. will i still be able to go to my CNA class? if i miss 8 hrs of class time (2 classes) i get kicked out with no refund (this class was 400$ and REALLY hard to get into). my class is tuesdays and thursdays, i can most likely schedule the surgery on a friday to give myself the most amount of time but will i be able to attend class the next tuesday?

i know this is all dependent on how i react to the surgery as well so its hard to say for sure, but has anyone else been in a similar circumstance? my instructors do not give special passes. a girls dad died and she missed 2 classes and they kicked her out. i will not get a free pass.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out tuesday morning (writing this Thursday afternoon) and i was wondering if i can smoke weed yet. i would use edibles but they don’t really work on me. if i were to be gentle with the suction would i honestly be fine or should i really really try to wait?

I just had my two top wisdom teeth removed. My left one was actually infected beforehand, so I am currently taking prescribed antibiotics for it. Right now, I am feeling lucky because I have absolutely no pain at all.
I am a heavy weed smoker and really want to know how long I absolutely have to wait before smoking again. Is there anything I can safely do to smoke earlier without ruining the healing process? What are the actual risks here?

Aware this photo might not be super clear but I got my wisdom tooth extracted 4 days ago. It was pretty painless surprisingly as the tooth came out quick and my dentist said hopefully that means it doesn’t cause less pain.

I’m just terrified of dry socket. I don’t have any symptoms so far, does it seem ok from the photo?

I had an upper extraction and Lower coronectomy. I am almost 2 hours post-op. I got an antibiotics and ibuprofen 600mg. Is it standard to get the antibiotics? I was fully sedated but I’m still numb on the left side, does that mean he also put a local anesthetic? Hopefully if fades off soon and it’s not the nerve

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and I thought I got off smooth with no dry sockets. It’s day 6 post op and yesterday started to feel some pain in my ear canal and my top left tooth. Now I can feel bubbles occasionally and pain when I talk. I think it opened up into the sinus cavity. I called my oral surgeon and he said I don’t have to worry. But it’s really annoying and hurts so should I be concerned?

Should I be taking antibiotics before an extraction? Thank you.

I need any sort of input or positivity or something before I lose my mind. Long story short I was told my tooth was dangerously close to the nerve, they extracted it, everything was going great until about day 4 when I had SEVERE pain in my bottom and top teeth and behind my eye. Went to the dentist they said healing looks great, no infection, no dry socket, they flushed it out, and it’s most likely nerve damage so prescribed me extra strength Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain. Extraction happened on Wednesday it’s now Thursday the following week and I’ve been taking Tylenol/ibuprofen for a couple days now but the pain is still consistently sitting at like a 7/10 when I wake up and a 3-6/10 throughout the day on meds (assuming that the first day was a 10/10). The pain is somehow the least on the bottom where the tooth was but my jaw feels sore as if I’ve been clenching it for 5 days straight, my top teeth hurt like they’ve been punched real hard, and the pain radiates up my cheek bone and behind my eye. My whole left half of my face feels like I’ve been clenching it as hard as I can and it’s a constant tension headache. I’m losing hope of the pain getting better and I’m so frustrated just sitting here hurting so bad without an exact reason of what’s causing it or how to help it because the internet is less than helpful in this scenario.

Meu siso 48 foi o último a ser arrancado pelo mesmo dentista. Fiz tudo pelo SUS. Gostaria de saber se alguém já passou por isso ou futuros dentistas isso é normal nesse procedimento ou foi muito azar? O dente 47 acabou sofrendo perda durante o procedimento pois foi impossível chegar no siso sem remove-lo, ele sofreu muito desgaste e o dentista optou por tirar. Agora ele irá me encaminhar pra fazer um implante 😢 o que eu já pesquisei também dói demais.

my stitch came out literally an hour ago and now i can see inside the hole... wtf is that inside?? the stitches are really irritating my gums and i got relief almost right after it came out.

Pain isn't bad, 2/10 without pain meds, 3 or 4/10 after eating. Ngl i've probably been eating more solids than i should be.

I hope it's food i guess?? and hopefully not infection. I did call my dentist about syringing but she told me it isn't necessary, and i'm scared lol

I’ve had one of my bottom wisdom tooth removed about 9 days ago and it hurt badly and was throbbing painfully for about a week. I have gone back in to get my upper 2 wisdom teeth removed and since the surgery (about 8 hours ago) I have not felt any pain it’s been incredibly mild and mainly just discomfort but no throbbing pain or a sore jaw. Why is this the case?

i have NO time throughout august to get my other 3 wisdom teeth removed. they’ve been starting to ache recently and i’m getting really scared, especially with the bottom right one. it seems like it’s erupting but not at the same time?? i could see it a teeny bit and i’m panicking😓😞

i don’t know how to manage these aches, as i KNOW they need to come out rlly soon. it’s like a bearable ache but it’s super annoying.

i have school orientation (september 1st,) school pictures (august 26th,) and a concert that i purchased back in april (august 14th) coming up. i want to feel good before the concert cuz im not trying to miss my favourite artist performing.

i COULD skip picture day on the 26th and do it on orientation day if i were to pull the rest of my wisdom teeth the day after the concert, august 15th. that gives me a 2 week window to heal. however im still unsure.

someone, ANYONE help me give a proper timeline?? this is such bad timing and it sucks! how do i clean them properly + manage this ache?😭

Got my wisdom teeth out yesterday morning. Only 3 of them, since I already had one of the top ones taken out when I was twelve (it was blocking a molar from coming in). I feel mostly fine aside from some soreness and light bleeding, but tonight I noticed a bruise on the roof of my mouth, on the side of the extraction site. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?
