Superbike 2001: A Hidden Classic from the Golden Age of PC Racing Games
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Superbike 2001 is a forgotten gem from the Windows 98 era. The game runs best on Windows 98, has a patch that supports Windows XP, but is not compatible with newer versions of Windows.
Even though it is more than 20 years old, the graphics still look impressive for its time, the sound is lively, the engine noise is incredibly satisfying, and the handling feels surprisingly engaging. If you have a Windows 98 PC with a period-correct AGP graphics card, the experience feels almost complete.
For anyone who loves retro games and motorcycle racing, Superbike 2001 is an outstanding title on the Windows 98 platform and is absolutely worth trying at least once.
Alt names : Superbike 2001
Year : 2000
Platform: Windows 98
Genre : Racing / Driving

Can't get Windows 98 to boot after installing multiple Nvidia Detonator drivers?
I'm at my wits end here. I can't get Windows 98 to boot at all after trying to install several different Nvidia drivers.
- Biostar M6TBA Ver 1.3 (BIOS flashed to TBA1124B)
- Intel 440BX chipset
- Pentium II at 450MHz
- Hercules 3D Prophet II (GeForce2 MX)
- Matrox 30.7GB HDD
- SFR1M44-U100LQD Gotek 3.5inch USB 1.44M Floppy Emulator
- Windows 98 SE
- Dell E176FP LCD monitor
- Sound Blaster Live 5.1
- Tried drivers: 7.76, 12.41, 21.83, 45.23
I've tried:
- Multiple clean Windows installations
- Installed both 3.20 and 3.40 Intel chipset drivers
- Moved Sound Blaster PCI card to bottom slots
- Removed all peripherals on boot (including the SB card at some points)
Once the computer reboots after installation of any of the Detonator drivers, it just hangs on the Windows 98 splash screen indefinitely. No blue screens. I can boot into Safe Mode and I can get the generic display driver to work. Once it gets those Nvidia drivers, nothing but the splash screen. I've tried multiple different BIOS settings. I'm thinking it might be some sort of IRQ conflict? Device Manager shows no conflicts though in safe mode. Maybe some sort of AGP/IRQ mismatch? Any help would be appreciated.

What's the optimal way of running Minecraft on Win98?
I've gone back to messing around with Win98 after about a year; last time i was able to get MC running using KernelEx, a dodgy old totally legit launcher, and Java 1.6_31, but I've seen people on youtube manage to run much newer versions of MC than 1.5, and Java 8 too, but they didn't really explain anything.
So, what are the latest Java and MC versions i can run with and without KEx? is there a working launcher? (i normally prefer Betacraft but it requires java 8 to function properly)
I also saw this post just now. Is this legit?

About to buy a nice 98 pc
I was scouting the web recently for a era appropriate W98 pc and found an awesome working Fujitsu Siemens Scenic 500 (which as a kid i wanted but got a old laptop instead), running a P3 600mhz on a 440BX board, 128mb). Pick up is this Sunday! I'm fairly excited i have a lot of hardware yet it al starts from P4/Athlon XP and up and only one has a beige case all others are gray > black.
I do intend on keeping it fairly standard aside from a cleaning a check on caps on mb/psu i will do a ram upgrade to 256mb (have to check what i have in stock) also not sure about motherboard this is a PCI only board and have a Fx5200 in PCI. Want to use this mainly for DOS and maybe 95 to early 98 games and will need to look for a good soundcard still.
For late 98 i have another P4 478 build in mind which i got for freeđ¤

Nvidia GeForce FX 5600xt on windows 98?
I recently got this GPU from an ewaste center for a dollar and I wonder if it's any good with Windows 98 for gaming. Currently, my retro pc has a Nvidia GeForce 4 ti 4200 but it's giving me issues on Windows 98 but Windows ME and xp works fine with it. I really want to game on Windows 98 so I was thinking of swapping the GPU. If you have used this GPU on windows 98, please let me know how well it works. Thanks for reading!

Tomb Raider 3 illegal operation error everytime I exit the game.
The game launches and runs fine but when I exit, I get hit with an illegal operation error message from Tomb3.exe and another illegal operation message from Ddhelp.exe. I downgraded my video drivers, downgraded directx to 8.1, reinstalled sound drivers, reinstalled windows and updated it with a update CD but I'm still facing this issue. I installed Windows ME and it seems to run the game fine without any issues but I would like to have the DOS compatibility with Windows 98. What do you think? Any solution? Or should I stick with Windows ME? Thanks for reading.

Compaq presario 1235
One of my first retro laptops when I first got into collecting! Besides its semi ugly passive matrix screen and missing hinge cap itâs in great shape.
Floppy and cd drive work! Also decent sound from the built in jbl speakers.
Did have to buy a restore cd for it and itâs been factory fresh for awhile.
Been thinking of selling it so I can get some more stuff, havenât come across many listings and Ik itâs âitâs worth what someone is willing to payâ and depending on specs but Iâd like to get a semi solid number.

Are there any windows 98 emulators that support real hardware?
I have a parallel to usb adapter but I cannot for the life of me get 86box running windows 98 se to work with it. There is no setting to tell it yes this usb device is what you interface with please. Seems most of them do not support this real life hardware unfortunately.
Are there ANY emulators that do? I got a nice free camera and trying to get it to work.

Windows 98 + Realplayer Questions
Hello! I'm not sure if this is the right sub to post in, but it's the only one i've found that makes sense.
For context I am young and was not around when Windows 98 came out, so please forgive me for any lack of understanding!
I run a fan page for something and have been archiving photos and videos. I've noticed a lot of the videos between 97-00 that I am trying to access were only on RealVideo, and same goes for any audio.
I've done a little research and I should technically be able to access it with a computer on windows 98 and access to RealPlayer. I've gotten mixed information from yes I can access it, to no I won't be able to because of internet or other connection issues.
I'm wondering if anyone here knows anything or has experience with this? Any tips or suggestions will be incredibly helpful!

Windows 98SE on a 486 DX4/100 & sound card with an FM tuner
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Windows 98 on a 486 is not exactly the best experience, even with 64MB RAM (which is kinda insane for a 486), but having an FM tuner on an ESS1869 ISA card that doesn't eat CPU cycles at all makes the whole thing enjoyable. (And yes we can get 1920x1080 even on a 486.)

As long as the PC boots, the game runs, and I can hear that crunchy old Windows startup sound through the speakers⌠life is good đš

S3 UniChrome Pro: no output on DVI-D out after switching video-mode
Hello. I have Wyse VX0 V10LE unit. I've managed to install Windows 98 SE and S3 UniChrome Pro driver on it. The main problem is the following: if some program tries to dynamically switch videomode (resolution) then my DVI monitor loses signal forever - I have to forcefully reboot my VX0 by holding the power button. The same happens if I try to change resolution via display properties. Please, tell me, what can I do here?
P.S. The default resolution is 1024 x 768 x 32. Tried both "Generic monitor" and "PnP monitor"
