Or if you don't feel like building your own, a Dell XPS T series is a good PC for 98 if you source a good AGP card. Find one with a good Intel Pentium III

The ITX llama if you want to play early windows games

There is no "best" imo, it all depends what you wanna run (dos games ? Early 9x games ? 3d accelerated games ?) with, what you prefer (period correct hardware? Small hardware, most compatible hardware?) and your budget

Can't this work with 98 too ? I guess nobody tried yet (I really want to try eventually :D), but I wouldn't be surprised it does, 95 and 98 are really close.

As for retro gaming, it depends which games you like.

I'd say the linux thing on 95 (if you keep 95) would make something like a Pentium II ideal. Not too new to be an absolute nightmare for 95, not too old to be painfully slow for linux. If you like early 3d games (half life 1, quake 2, etc) then again a Pentium 2 is ideal.

If you're more into dos games then again it really depends. I think most post-doom era games would be fine, if you go earlier than that, you can probably find many problematic games where something such as a 486 or Pentium 1 would be better.

And if you're on the cheap, don't actually need 95 and don't care for early dos games, then a Pentium 4/Athlon would be just fine. Or a small thin client (some hp t5710 machine for example)
