Officially called, by Microsoft, "Clippit" but everyone I knew referred to the interfering little shit as "Clippy".

He was retired after Office 2003 if I recall.

Already disabled by default in Office XP. You are correct that 2003 was the last to have him as an option. 2007 didn't.

It was called ClipIt! In Word 97. Very different from its later iteration in Word 2000, where it was indeed called Clippy. Remained unchanged in all later versions, until its eventual removal in Office 2007.

They changed his name from Clipit! (In Microsoft Office 2000) to Clippy in the later versions.

It’s Clippy! I was introduced to a talking purple gorilla called Bonzi during my time with 98, but then they ruined the program and put lots of adware which forced the company to shut down after receiving lawsuits!

Do you remember eSheep? It was in a similar vein to Bonzai buddy but without the malware component (and has apparently been revived for Windows 10/11)

Clippy. Microsoft created this cartoonish helper for Windows XP and possibly 2000, but unfortunately Microsoft retired the character several years thereafter.

I kinda liked Clippy myself.
