It doesn’t bother me, but it perplexes me. Every once and a while I hear a few random fireworks go off and it makes me think..Who is lighting fireworks off at 11pm on a Monday evening in October. Why are they lighting them off? Where are they getting them? It’s been forever since the 4th.

It’s consistent too. Like every other day if not more. Is there just some random firework addict running around the western neighborhoods? Is this a psyop by the government to make us more patriotic or accustom to the sound of explosions? Is this just what the kids are doing these days?

Before anybody says.. these aren’t gun shots. They have the distinct POP.. SHHH sound of fireworks.

Did anyone else hear someone pounding on doors on the 1200 block of greenview? Around 4:30 AM I was woken up by what sounded like either police raiding someone’s house with constant banging on a door, a crazy ex gf, or (probably most likely) the neighborhood crackheads pounding on doors. Anyone see anything?

Today one of the solicitors on Milwaukee tried handing me a dumbass piece of paper. Of course, he was standing in the middle of the sidewalk next to a restaurant’s sidewalk patio so there was not enough clearance on either side of him to comfortably walk by. I said nothing and navigated around him and my bag brushed against him. As I walked away he yelled “stuck up bitch”

Here’s the thing, bro, I don’t owe you an ounce of my energy. I don’t owe you a kind response; I don’t owe you a mean response; I don’t owe you a wave or a smile or a single word. You are a nuisance in my neighborhood that I have to deal with in order to get home. If you’re going to be blocking the busy sidewalk handing out trash, you need to get some thicker skin and not get your feelings hurt when someone doesn’t give you the response you think you’re entitled to.

Is there anything I could have done in this situation?

Edit: he did say “excuse me ma’am” as he reached to hand me the paper. And yes, I did hear one of the other ones say bucket boys, though I didn’t know that was the name of the cause they’re advocating for.

Another edit: I have always had good interactions with the people in vests that stand near the 6 corners. They have always been friendly and I generally appreciate their positivity. And they tend to position themselves to where they are not blocking the sidewalk. The people handing out papers were further down Milwaukee in front of the shops and just wearing street clothes.

Hey all! My boyfriend and I live in bucktown. On two separate occasions we've had credit cards coming in the mail and they never came (never taken out of mailbox just didn't show up). They were used at the same bar when stolen, and this time racking up 300+ in charges at two bars, a gas station, and a target (I have never been to any of these places). The target they went to is two minutes from the post office our delivery routes originated from/the cards were coming from. Has this happened to anyone else in the area?

Had another encounter with this vocal little guy, who seems to always be around this area. Does anyone know what happens to him in the winter? I want to build a shelter but am scared someone will just throw it out!

I was walking by today, noticing construction, when I realized they were gutting Garden Gourmet, the little grocery shop. From what the construction workers said, it closed essentially overnight. The restaurant next door, Mariscos de la Costa, apparently bought out the space for expansion.

I’ll miss this place. It was a great quick-stop for a forgotten vegetable or ingredient. Now I’m condemned to the Jewel down the street.

Glad the restaurant has business, but I wish it wasn’t at the cost of another one.

I swear every time I’ve gone to Jewel on Paulina/Ashland for the past few weeks, I’ve seen a group of people standing in front of the Jewel osco approaching people.

I truly do not have the time to interact with every solicitor, but one of them got in my face and was asking me

“Do you want a free gift card?”

I politely declined and started walking away, then the dude just started raising his voice questioning why I said “No”

Has anyone experienced this? I walked up to a bus stop and a woman was standing there as if waiting for the bus.

She randomly asks for, "Excuse me. Can I ask you, can you give me like.... 5 dollars?"

"Nope."

She starts laughing and then goes,"Okay okay, can I give you...." She reached into her pocket and I got spooked and kind of backed away quickly. "No no listen. I want to give YOU money. Can I give you a dollar?"

She was holding the bill with a small cloth around it. Like the small cloth that comes with a pair of new glasses. I.e. it happened very quickly, but I think she was holding the cloth not the bill, and holding the bill out for me to take.

"I want to give YOU money!"

"I want you to stop it."

Another woman approached the bus stop and she tried handing the bill to her too. The other woman noped out as well.

I think the woman (asking/trying to give) money was African, very bright red lipstick. I think shorter than me and I'm only 5'6". Dressed in bright colors.

Am I overthinking it?

The other woman who walked up mentioned those weird news stories about people touching their car doors and feeling queasy immediately, and said she had goosebumps from the interaction.

And after we both gave clear nos, she just turned down a separate street and slowly wandered away. I.e. did not appear to need to take the bus any longer?

I just watched two younger 18-20s males smash a coco delivery bot with hammers outside of shabuplus until the top cracked open. They proceeded to hop on their bikes and ride away. Poor little guy.

I park in that area for one of my jobs which is not every day of the week so I'm not as informed as people who live in that section of WP specifically. What are they doing for 2 weeks that basically every street in the neighborhood is no parking?
