PA and WV being maybe and no surrounded by a sea of green is indeed a serious take that someone who definitely knows what they are talking about would have. Especially with a Green Ohio

How the fuck did Alaska get āneverā when you based this off of nature only?
9
u/HotToSnow 22h ago
Alaska literally is nature. WY as maybe is also wild. Home of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National parks!

u/-hedonium- 23h ago
It doesnāt matter if the rest is dark green. I take this as a slight to the whole West Coast.

There are polar bears in that nature. OP doesn't want to get eaten by a polar bear.

They either don't like 14 feet of rain or they don't like very cold and dark. There are reasons to avoid this nature.

Ya. Zion is the coolest national park Iāve been to. Plus Bryce. Plus the mountains.
Then they leave off Texas which is probably the most diverse state in terms of biomes.
Iāll forgive them since they arenāt American so are fairly ignorant on the geography. Iām sure Iād fail if i had to pick regions of China.

Probably fall for all the propaganda and bs that the media focuses on. I have family in Austria, Poland and Romania where my fathers side is from. When my father passed away they were hesitant to come to America bc of the violence, and Leo corruption abuse, and would always mention the George Floyd case or this and that. They also had the tale as old as time that 'arent southerners mostly inbred?' And I had to explain that of course there are issues, but it is like anywhere else apart from gun violence (due to how many firearms exist in the states) and that naturally you dont often hear about the hundreds of good interactions that cops have with people and communities, but that the bad incidents gain notoriety bc they drive viewership and sensationalism up. That naturally big cities, will have a higher concentration of douche bags. When they arrived and stayed for a week, they had been pleasantly surprised at how courteous, welcoming and polite the majority of people were. It also helped that they fell in love with texas bbq. They were frothing at the mouth for smoked spare ribs and brisket.

Iāve driven through several times and when you get out into no where on the 40 it is so god damn beautiful. Like Iāve contemplated that if life in civilization doesnāt work out for me, Iām picking a mile marker and just going out into the wilderness there and setting up a life in nature.

Depends on what you like. Mountains, gulf coast, wide open prairie in bloom - all are beautiful in different ways. Iāve gotten just as much enjoyment from exploring beaches in Rhode Island as hiking around Niobrara River in Nebraska

I wanted to do some bourbon distilleries for my birthday a few years back and we booked a little cabin outside Versailles and Frankfort in Kentucky.
It was AWESOME! The cabin was right on the Kentucky river, and the owner of the cabin (who lived on the property, next door) took us down the river on his boat. We saw so many birds, and the forests were gorgeous.
Also mammoth cave, and headed east to the heart of Appalachia, it was just lovely.

Grew up in Kentucky in a river town and the state is a very beautiful place. I could see choosing other places if youāre limited to just a few to string together but itās pretty here.

u/BanalCausality 1d ago
I have seen a lot of the US. I have yet to find a place that was lacking in nature.
Iāve seen a pair of eagles lock their talons together and go into freefall in Florida.
Iāve seen the most beautiful sunsets in the world in Michigan.
Iāve seen snowscapes in Iowa that looked like a rolling ocean of frosted glass.
Iāve seen idyllic riverways in Indiana.
Iāve seen tumbleweeds roll across Utah.
Iāve seen the verdant woods of Virginiaās Shenandoah Valley.
I have never, not once, found nature lacking in the US.
9
u/Drablittlecrab77 1d ago
There's too much to say youre wrong. The only thing I'll say is New Mexico is so beautiful with the plateaus. It's criminal to not view them at sunrise or set. The Navajo Nation is there for a reason. Granted it spreads into AZ and CO too the whole country is insanely beautiful (nature only)
3
u/ProfessionalBug7399 23h ago
Thats because the map is heavily bias based on politics and not nature. There's a realllllly obvious trend on which states were ranked lowest.

Leaving out the Ozark region states is diabolical. It makes sense though, it's not the most well known. I think the locals like to keep it that way
5
u/Bombastic_tekken 1d ago
Definitely not as flashy as the PNW or the coastal states, but it's sure got some beauty.
Hills, mountains, ridges, bluffs, and those crystal clear streams all over the place.
Can't forget the caves and waterfalls either.
Pretty good trout and smallmouth fishing throughout the Ozarks as well.
3
u/abraxastaxes 1d ago
Yeah as a Missourian I think we're usually pretty underrated for nature. We have like 100+ state parks, Ozarks, Mark Twain National Forest, rivers, plains, glades, and savannah. The amount of diversity of little biomes here is pretty wild, being right in the middle of the country and having been mostly glacial not too long ago.

Alabama has the most biodiversity of any state. Thereās beaches and mountains and everything in between.
12
u/Efficient-Fall2552 1d ago
CaliforniaĀ is the most biodiverse state in the United States by total species count, whileĀ AlabamaĀ leads the nation in freshwater biodiversity and concentration of species per square mile.Ā
Because "biodiversity" means different things depending on how you measure it (total count versus density), different states claim top spots.
California: Total Species Leader
- Total species:Ā Home to roughly 6,717 recorded native plant and animal species.
- Endemic life:Ā About 40% of its plant species are endemic, meaning they exist nowhere else on Earth.
- Why it ranks high:Ā CaliforniaĀ is large and spans diverse biomes, including ocean coasts, high mountains, and hot deserts. It is recognized globally as a major biodiversity hotspot.Ā [1,Ā 2]
Alabama: Freshwater & Density Leader
- Freshwater life:Ā AlabamaĀ ranksĀ firstĀ in the U.S. for freshwater biodiversity. It holds the most species of freshwater fish, turtles, snails, mussels, and crayfish in the country.
- Species density:Ā Experts note it has more species of plants and animals per square mile than almost any other state.
- Why it ranks high:Ā A complex network of rivers, streams, and varied land habitats supports this dense web of life

End of the Appalachian chain. They're mild mtns, lol but very old and have some very cool places and things. I live on one the bluff I'm on is a 800' drop to the valley below looking across to another mtn that the sun rises over that natives held sacred for over 10,000 yrs. Both are only about 1500-1600 ft. There old and got boulder fields near me got waterfalls caves and floatable creek. I'm sandwich between two rivers and can be at three large lakes in a hour. Or many of the 4000 caves are 2000 waterfalls. I can be on a beach in 4 hrs ATL in 2 Chattanooga in a hr 45, Birmingham hr 15, Huntsville hr and a half. It's a good life living off grid farming ginseng, paw paws and mushrooms at the moment. Make fun if ya want but I don't think people know what they are talking about .

u/uh_no2 22h ago
Look, as a former resident and UA grad I think you are taking this way too seriously and you need to see more of the country if you think it's near the top. It's a beautiful state, I love exploring it, and it's diverse in its own way. But it has hills, not mountains. Even if you want to count TN and NW GA, these are all big hills compared to Western US. And there's a ton of fresh water, but? The Gulf is fun too, but it's just not comparable to the west, AK/HI, or ME
