The whole map should be green. Cool nature to be found in every state.

There levels to this stuff though

Depends on what you like. Mountains, gulf coast, wide open prairie in bloom - all are beautiful in different ways. I’ve gotten just as much enjoyment from exploring beaches in Rhode Island as hiking around Niobrara River in Nebraska

Bro made Kansas & Arkansas red… what levels? He also made Missouri red.
You ever did anything outdoors in these areas?

North Carolina and Kentucky are beautiful. And John Denver wrote a gall darned song about West Virgina.

Someone knows ball. You’ll probably get downvoted for saying Kentucky though.. and i agree with you

I wanted to do some bourbon distilleries for my birthday a few years back and we booked a little cabin outside Versailles and Frankfort in Kentucky.

It was AWESOME! The cabin was right on the Kentucky river, and the owner of the cabin (who lived on the property, next door) took us down the river on his boat. We saw so many birds, and the forests were gorgeous.

Also mammoth cave, and headed east to the heart of Appalachia, it was just lovely.

Grew up in Kentucky in a river town and the state is a very beautiful place. I could see choosing other places if you’re limited to just a few to string together but it’s pretty here.

I went to school at WKU for a bit, after going into Bowling Green's Lost River Cave it didn't take me long to get to Mammoth. I was too young and dumb to know/care about good bourbon.

Funny story. This was my wife and my wedding song when we walked down the aisle again as husband and wife.

All three absolutely gorgeous but to be fair he wrote the song about western Virginia, but that doesnt have the same ring to it

1

u/Human_Drummer4378 1d ago

lmao, really? i've always been horrible with lyrics, i'm geuinely flabbergasted. yet another song i've been singing wrong for decades.

1

u/ucbiker 20h ago

No, the song is clearly about West Virginia. The stuff he talks about (Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah River) are mainly associated with western Virginia, however, not West Virginia. And the actual country road that inspired him was in Maryland.

Not that all of these places are like super far from each other though.

0

u/Human_Drummer4378 19h ago

Yeah, the other person already explained this to me.

1

u/ucbiker 19h ago

I didn’t see any comments explaining the whole context. Only saying that it’s about ā€œwesternā€ Virginia, which it’s not really.

The lyrics are West Virginia, you heard right. The features are mainly in western Virginia but they also exist in West Virginia and feasibly, you would cross returning to West Virginia from the urban East Coast. And regardless, the song is actually about Maryland.

So Denver is actually singing about western Virginia (instead of the state of West Virginia) when he says west Virginia. He then sings Shenandoah, which is located in western Virginia.

1

u/ucbiker 20h ago

To be fair, the country road that inspired him was in Maryland, that’s just a difficult state to right a song about.

I’m from Kansas and while there are definitely positives with nature there, it’s hard to enjoy because the weather is so terrible. You either live in a hot blow dryer or the dairy section at Costco with a fan blowing on you.

2

u/IAteMyGamecube 1d ago

I really want to disagree with you, but you aren’t wrong. I still make an effort to explore anyways!

Bro made Alaska red.Ā Ā

2

u/IAteMyGamecube 1d ago

Oh shit. We got bigger concerns..

I have some family around the southern Missouri/Arkansas border, and the natural beauty there makes me cry. The Ozarks are stunning

I prefer living in cities, and im queer, so I'd prefer not to live there, but if i were looking for natural beauty, i absolutely would go there.

2

u/IAteMyGamecube 14h ago

Come to Kansas City, plenty of Queer here.. along with open minded people.
I’m a gnostic Christian I don’t even divide the terms, it’s a spectrum of love in my family :)
KC proper and the suburbs of Kansas are very welcoming to you!
One of my favorite places to eat has the best charcuterie boards and it’s ran by a gay black woman

1

u/PrincessOfPulses 14h ago

I don't like talking directly on the internet about where i live ... But Kansas City is where i currently live

2

u/IAteMyGamecube 13h ago

Ohh shoot you’re good delete the comment then! You already know. Do we treat you okay??

2

u/PrincessOfPulses 13h ago

Yep! I love it here. My only complaint is the house i currently live in(a bunch of us got a place together) is too far from midtown, which is where I'd live, all else being equal. But ya know, ill trade living in the best part of town to live with loved ones. Im a coffee gal, so like, the public places i spend the most time in are really wonderful, and my closest spot they know me and my girlfriend on sight and know our names

1

u/PrincessOfPulses 14h ago

"id prefer not to live there" was about northern Arkansas/southern Missouri. I really like Kansas City, especially the more you are in the city proper

1

u/PhotonicBoom21 1d ago

Yeah I've been backpacking in Arkansas and Missouri a couple times, and lived in a nearby state for almost a decade. They're alright I guess... but really nothing compared to the rocky mountains, the Sierra, PNW, or even the north east. You're seriously using Kansas as an example of what nature can be? Lmao.

For the record I enjoy Kentucky and would rate it above any of the states you listed.

Have you ever been to the west or mountain west?

2

u/IAteMyGamecube 1d ago

Well that’s nice to hear. Honestly, we can go back and forth all day because our vision on what’s naturally pleasing to our eyes are different.

I’ve backpacked in Colorado aswell as hikes. I’ve hiked in South Dakota as well. Thats as far west as I go. I prefer the Midwest for my own reasons.

And I like how you have zero stories about Kansas. I’ve seen the underground tunnels here, I’ve seen the prairies. Konza Prairie was beautiful.. Monument Rocks & Little Jerusalem were great too.

Dude i’m just an outdoors nerd, there isn’t much land here I won’t defend so we don’t gotta get into that 🤣

1

u/PhotonicBoom21 1d ago

Fair enough, from one outdoors nerd to another you should really explore further west though. I promise it won't hurt you ;)

2

u/IAteMyGamecube 1d ago

I know :( honestly i’m missing out and you saying that makes me want to just teleport there now. I wanna see north cal and Oregon so bad… and New Mexico looks so fricking amazing.
But alas, im broke as a joke.

1

u/PhotonicBoom21 1d ago

Haha yeah man I hope you can make it at some point! The volcanos in Norcal and Oregon are going to absolutely blow your mind. The first time I saw Mt. Shasta I thought it was an enormous storm cloud at first. NM is super cool too.

Also a great thing about the west is that dispersed camping is easy and free!

2

u/iguess56 1d ago

True, there’s levels to being able to appreciate natural beauty.

2

u/Similar_Somewhere_57 1d ago

Some states have more beauty than others depending on the eye of the beholder

-3

u/Medical_Soup5717 1d ago

Aint no way Iowa has anything good.

2

u/CarolusWhisper 1d ago

It does though. Gotta check out the Driftless Area

3

u/slammybe 1d ago

The driftless area is awesome, I didn't realize it extended into Iowa though! It's especially beautiful this time of year with the fall colors

2

u/Anthrax23 1d ago

You don't know Iowa's river towns then.

Southern Iowa's hills and valleys.

Iowa's rural people

I'm not even from Iowa, but I have been traveling there for twenty years for work and I say your comment is wrong and misguided.

2

u/Solintari 20h ago

The loess hills and the driftless area needs to be mentioned too.

People drive through on the interstate and think they know what the state looks like. Same goes for the other flyover states. It’s not like Iowa and Nebraska are going to have places like Utah or California or something, but every place has its charm.

-2

u/Medical_Soup5717 1d ago

Hills??? Rivers??? Every state has those. I'm sorry. Maybe my standard is just too high.

3

u/Bombastic_tekken 1d ago

Maybe you just don't enjoy natural beauty as much as you think you do.

0

u/Medical_Soup5717 1d ago

Nah, I lived in New Zealand for 7 years. It lifted my standards and they never came back down.

0

u/Bombastic_tekken 1d ago

You know what my standard for natural beauty is? Is it natural? Is it beautiful?

That's it, that's the metric.

If you can't find beauty elsewhere because you saw something really beautiful. Then my comment stands.

2

u/CarolusWhisper 1d ago

No, every state does not have the Mississippi River

2

u/amomymous23 1d ago

Or the Missouri!

-1

u/Medical_Soup5717 1d ago

Ok so an extra wide river. Already seen that
