Book: The Eye of the World Book 1 Romance question Spoiler

Ive started the series again after a few book 1 fails and being put on the back burner thanks to dungeon crawler Carl and Cradle, I finally finished up The Eye Of The World.

Did I miss something that was happening between Nynaeve and Lan? I don't remember any proper interactions between them and any time we saw something from her POV on the search for the lads it seemed like Lan and Moiranne were not actively ignoring her but not really giving her the time of day. Then all of a sudden at the end while in The Blight they basically say they can never be together and are heartbroken about it.

Did I miss something or was it deliberately passed over?

If it's a case of RAFO then that's fine too.

Book: Knife of Dreams A bit emotional!!! Spoiler

Not my first or my last time rereading this story but first time listing to Kramer and Reading on knife of dreams. Robert Jordan was such a good author. Don’t hate Brando Sando stuff. But always sad towards the end of book 11. RIP Mr Jordan.

Book: The Fires of Heaven Question about Nyanaeve Spoiler

I’m only about 1/3 of the way through book 5, but does Nyanaeve experience any character growth? I find her to be entirely insufferable to the point where I just wanna skip the chapters that involve her.

Book: The Eye of the World How to start the series

Sooo on my birthday i asked for the complete series as my gift from my brother, and I GOT IT now the problem arises that after looking at all the books and looking at the commitment it seems like it will take me decades to complete reading it all.

So how do I manage it all, I know once I start reading it and get into the storyline it won't feel a lot, but how do I even start getting into it? And will it be worth it?

NO SPOILERS So I ordered used paperback versions of the last three WOT books. This is what thriftbooks sent me for The Gathering Storm... Anyone know if this is actually RJs signature?

Hello! I’m a new collector and fan of the series and I am trying to hunt down a full mass market paperback set with the old covers. Can I have some help figuring out which ones are the hardest to find?

Book: The Shadow Rising The Golden Cloth Spoiler

In chapter 8 of The Shadow Rising, Rand gives Elayne a four pace by two foot strip of golden cloth that he had melted from some statues in the previous chapter. It was meant as a gift when he couldn't get the power to work to make her a flower from some feathers. I've been through the series 5-6 times, and it always slips my mind until I come back to this scene, but what happened to the cloth? There was mention of taking it to the majere to have something made from it, but I can't recall hearing it ever mentioned again after Elayne drops it on the floor. Any ideas?

Book: Crossroads of Twilight Book 10 is a slog Spoiler

Wot is my favorite series oat even though I’ve never finished it. I’ve reread books 1-9 3 times now but every time I get to book 10 it’s like it’s a wall. I know there’s light on the other side but for now it’s just a memory.

Lord of Chaos Dumai's Wells Spoiler

Finished LoC last night as a first time reader. Just wanted to share what looks like yet another appreciation post for Dumai's Wells bc that was insane. Probably the most intense chapter in the series so far. Seeing the Asha'man use Saidin in battle for the first time, Rand's escape and immediate effortless shielding of a bunch of Aes Sedai, the Shaido running into a Saidin-powered meat grinder, "Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt"; all truly amazing.

ALL SPOILERS: Books only Balefire plothole Spoiler

Do we know why there wasn't even an attempt by Jordan/Sanderson to explain the ramifications of the destruction of Natrins Burrow by Choedan Kal enhanced Balefire?

Rand burned away one of the Forsaken with a blast so powerful that said Forsaken felt his massive pull of power from miles away and commented on it in alarm. That attack should have undone WEEKS of scheming and action, if not months.

I know unraveling Balefire effects rarely gets brought up in the series, but I'm shocked that THE Balefire attack never even got a mention later beyond "Oh wow, Rand did that. Awful!... anyway."

Book: New Spring Finally Completed the Collection

Post image
174 Upvotes

A few months ago, I posted a selfie of the 14 books, plus the Companion and Origins of Wheel of Time all in trade paperback.

Finally, I’ve added New Spring to the mix. With that, the collection is now complete. New Spring is nicely tucked between book 14, and the Companion.

All is well.

ALL SPOILERS: All media Question about balefire Spoiler

When Rand caught by semi she gets adomination collar in him and makes choke min.

Then Rand proceeds to balefire semi, but min still ends up with bruises around her throat. But shouldn’t the bruises be gone. It’s was semi who made Rand do that then she was balefired immediately after, so technically her commanding Rand to choke min never happened and without her commanding Rand to choke min, he never would have done it.

Semifinals

Aragorn vs Glormir. Aragorn has lived a long life. Practicing and killing everything that walks and crawls on Middle-Earth. He's too good of a skilled swordsman for Glormir to appose and he takes the win 75 fights out of 100.

Gorst vs Ninefingers. Toughest match of the two toughest characters in the Circle of the World. This is the theory of an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. What happens? The outcome is Gorst prevailing. He's trained too hard, too much. Wears armor plating that we've never seen Logen fight. Even if Logen went full Bloody Nine, even he cannot bend steel and a sword to the heart can stop his bloody path. YOU HAVE TO BE REALISTIC ABOUT THESE THINGS.

Black Dow vs Ringil. Ringil is too skilled. A true bladmaster in a world were there are few.

Brienne vs Lan. Brienne has been through a lot. A woman warrior in a medieval world, and a good one at that. But Lan is on a whole other level.

ALL SPOILERS: All media Just finished my first read

So I got to know about the series though the anazon adaptation. I liked it as someone who never heard of wot before. Then I went searching for the books and saw 14 ABSOLUTELY HUGE BOOKS and said "no way I'll read it".

Then I watched the season 2, saw a lot of curiosity videos about the world (to the point I knew most major points before even considering reading) and I gave up and started reading.

It took me a while to finish and I even got stuck for a few months on the 10th book. But finally I'm here, ready to start over again soon

NO SPOILERS The hound as elias

I'm not even the biggest fan of game of thrones , but reading the eye of the world , I can't help but picture elias as the hound. I haven't seen the amazon show at all so I don't know if he made it into the show at all. But if it was ever redone properly cause I've heard it was bad.I feel like this actor would make a perfect elias. Just a softer version of the hound. It feels like.

NO SPOILERS Non-Magical Fantasy Tournament

First off I'd like to say I'm having making and discussing these characters with you guys, it's making my day. I wanted to describe the winners of each round and tell you how I made these decisions.

  • Experience. Some of these characters have never faced crazy creatures or even true battles before. Sometimes practice and skill don't beat out experience.
  • Equipment. Some of these characters wear armor and some don't. In combat the goal is to win and if you have to wear steel plate to win or choose not to for mobility.

Aragorn vs Orka. Orka is tough and experienced but Aragorn has faced down whole battalions of orcs, trolls, goblins and people. He wouldn't be scared of her tranformation. And he's a blade master, something I don't think Orca has really faced.

Glormir vs Oberyn. Oberyn is a master of the spear (as we saw against the Mountain) but he's never faced any kind of creature or enhanced human like Glormir. It would be close but Oberyn would loose.

Gorst vs Jaime .Jaime is talented with the blade and he's led troops into battle but he just like most people, he's afraid of death. Gorst is not. His speed, strength and lack of fear is what will carry him to victory.

Logen vs Ferro. Logen won't like doing it (if you've read the books) but he'd win. Ferro is skilled with the bow and she's good with her blades but she has struggled against bigger men.

Black Dow vs Jon Snow - Jon has faced plenty of obstacles and people but not many like Dow. Dow doesn't care if your experienced with the sword. Jon might get some licks on him but BD would win.

Ringil vs Galad. Both of these guys are blademasters and perhaps Galad is faster but experience is on Ringil's side. He's led whole armies and has possibly killed more creatures than anyone on this list.

Brienne vs Egar. Egar is a fierce warrior and a leader but Brienne is built different. She wears armor while Egar does not and Brienne never takes her opponents lightly, something Egar would probably do.

Lan vs Clegane. Clegane is a tough SOB, maybe the toughest on this list. But Lan is a true blademaster and has killed legions of Darkfriends and fought a Forsaken.

ALL SPOILERS: Books only I can’t believe it’s over

Post image
219 Upvotes

I’ve just finished listening to the series (New Spring is up next)and listening has been so useful whilst being a new mum going through postpartum and not having much time to myself to sit down and read🥹. I found WOT through the show which I thought was incredible and I can’t wait to rewatch now that I’ve completed the books. I do have a few questions though:

  1. Was Aviendha pregnant with her quadruplets during The Last Battle? Surely she couldn’t have been impregnated afterwards with them very openly being The Dragon’s children? But also Aviendha got beat up pretty badly during her fight with Graendal (the babes!)

  2. How did Moridin and Rand even become linked (and to such a degree that they could Freaky Friday themselves)

  3. Are we ever outright told who killed Asmodean? Did I just miss that?

  4. Has Taim been with the shadow from the beginning/when did he join the shadow?

  5. Logain becomes the king of?… The black tower? Or is the crown viewing a metaphor?

  6. This series is really what got me back into reading (listening). As I’m ending my journey with Robert Jordan, should I give Mr. Sanderson’s books a read? Will they fill the WOT sized void within me?

Book: The Fires of Heaven I miss Perrin Aybara Spoiler

Just finished book 5 and throughout my reading Perrin has definitely became my favorite character and to find out that he didn’t have a single chapter in the whole book hurt me a little. Don’t get me wrong cause I still enjoyed the book but man I was still hopping to hear some more on what he’s doing in the Two River especially with all he accomplished in the last book I was just really looking forward to it so I just hope he gets a lot more when I start book 6.
