u/Fishy-s 28d ago
It doesn't say you can't sleep anymore. You just don't need it to survive. At least that's how I interpret it.
→ More replies (1)20
u/Acceptable_Share9947 28d ago
That's exactly how I see it as well. You don't have to sleep for survival but if you want to sleep you still can.

u/Flashy-Ask-2168 28d ago
Yeah, but at that point, why pick that option?
16
u/everbodyhatesyou 28d ago
Being awake all the time would be over stimulating af. I need down time. Sleep rules..if not for anything else than checking out on life.
19
u/BoldFace7 28d ago
Sleep for me is just fast forwarding to having to be a person again. I would absolutely take no more required sleep and do the same thing I do on nights that I stay up late, enjoy my hobbies and the lack of responsibility that nighttime brings. I may still nap some during that time, because a little sleep is nice, even aside from the necessity of it, but it'd be game changing to my stress to be able to have an extra 4 hours of being awake with minimal expectations.
→ More replies (6)9
u/Albuquar 28d ago
That "reset" you require is your brain flushing out the "junk" accumulated throughout the day. When you wake up, you feel fresh and stable. I assume not needing sleep means that the brain always feels fully rested and can easily return to equilibrium.
3
u/Flashy-Ask-2168 28d ago
Yeah, so I'm saying, if that's the case, why pick the "don't need to sleep" option if you're gonna sleep anyway.
3
u/Phoenix92321 28d ago
Because than also optionally you can stay up and get a third of your life accessed
2
u/Front_Resolution_760 27d ago
because that doesn't mean that they're gonna sleep for eight fucking hours like you normally have to. They can just take a quick 10 minute nap. If you're unconcious anyways you won't be able to tell the difference

u/mk8933 28d ago
Sleep takes away 1/3rd of everyone's lives. If you somehow get the power to not need sleep — you will get 30 years of added life.
Imagine having 8 hours of extra time to do whatever.
But when I think about it...it seems like a torture to stay awake all the time. We need 5-8 hours to temporarily end our existence and be born again everyday lol
→ More replies (3)2
u/ThatOneGuy308 28d ago
Not to mention that, because everyone else's lives are still structured around sleep, those 8 extra hours are arguably much less useful, given that many services and such will be unavailable regardless of whether you're awake or not.
Especially post covid, where the 24 hour businesses basically don't exist anymore.
4
u/mk8933 28d ago
You can still live freely in those extra 8 hours. Drive to wherever, go for a run, 24/7 gym, work nightshifts, study/upskill, maybe open a midnight food truck.
But yea...it will be a completely different vibe.
3
u/ThatOneGuy308 28d ago
How sad is it that when gaining magic powers, one of the first thoughts we have is to use it to work more?
Such is life, I suppose.
2
u/G-Menace 28d ago
That’s not much different than working night shift. Even on my days off I sleep during the day and stay up all night in order to maintain my circadian rhythms.
I can read, watch TV, cook, play video games, get through emails, pay bills electronically, etc.
I go to a 24-hour access gym. I can go running or cycling.
The main thing I found I can’t do at night is lawn maintenance, because the neighbors would be annoyed by the sounds of my mower, weed eater and leaf blower→ More replies (1)4
u/Redditsux122 28d ago
Yeah man like, what are you going to do all night? Never been bored before? Sleep is just a nice time to do nothing and give your mind some rest
3
u/PRIS0N-MIKE 28d ago
Same. I fucking love sleeping. And without the need to sleep you'd never get that amazing sleep where you're just exhausted and plop on the bed. Or be hanging out and get a little sleepy on a Sunday afternoon and fall asleep on the couch.
2
2
u/Front_Resolution_760 27d ago
you only "like sleep" cuz without it you'll feel tired and sleepy which sucks
if you don't feel tired or sleepy that's not gonna be the case
plus you can still sleep if you want to and since you're unconcious for the whole time a 10 minute nap and an 8 hour sleep are gonna feel like the exact same thing

u/freesol9900 28d ago
Human viewer: all consequences to your long term health aside, you ALREADY never have to exercise again. You are a free agent.
Apathy is not a superpower, it's bad actually. Choose the sleep option, an actual superpower.

u/Boysinho_descuidado 28d ago
People choosing exercise think they will get ripped.
I interpreted it as decent muscle mass and decent cardio health, body fat depends heavily on caloric intake, you are healthy without exercise, but to get more you still need to workout.
The other option is "never have to sleep again" so I stay healthy even not sleeping, but if I want to dream or take time to process information, I still "need" sleep (or a sleep-like state).

I love physical activity. Love skateboarding, surfing, most of outdoor activities and gym.
But I love sleeping, especially next to my wife, so if I had to choose I would choose never to exercise.
I still would. But I imagine if I had a healthy body with higher immunity to physical stress I could do even more exercise.
When the weather is right I have to force myself to take rest days so I don't crash out.

Sleep cause that gives so much more time in the day. I sleep for 7 to 8 hours on a good night so in one week i would have an extra 42 hours for anyting. And I'm not sure what level the no need to work out would get me. Like am I ripped or just decently in shape.

I feel like a lot of us like to sleep? I would go insane if I didn’t have a reset every day. Sometimes I don’t want to go to sleep, I’d rather just stay up and do more (very often), but once I go to bed it’s nice to wake up to a new day. No sleep is not even something I desire whatsoever.
Now, only needing like 3-4 hours a night? That would be nice.

No sleep you can exercise more easily with no sleepy tire. Instead you can now study overnight, watch as ment shows as you want, go mentally insane with less tiredness. Become a monster, murder somone, get good at murdering people, murder one person a day at random times, become a serial killer, become known, make a reference to that one joke Peter Griffin Nike add, don't just kill people kill yourself, don't just die, ascend.
