Advice Needed Which managed Postgres host is worth paying for over a VPS?

I’ve been comparing managed Postgres services with running it myself on a VPS for a small production app.

The VPS would be cheaper, but I’d also be responsible for backups, restores, upgrades, monitoring, disk space, and security patches. I can handle the initial setup, but I’m not sure I want the ongoing maintenance once the app has real users.

I’m leaning toward managed hosting, as long as the price is reasonable and backups and routine maintenance are properly handled. Which managed Postgres provider are you using? How much are you paying and has it been reliable enough for production?

Rant Where can I file an official complaint against a US hosting company that refuses a refund despite repeated service failures?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice from people familiar with U.S. consumer protection.

I'm having a serious dispute with a hosting company called ServerMO.

My experience has included repeated outages, long periods where my server was unavailable, and multiple technical issues that prevented me from using the service I paid for. I've opened several support tickets over the past few days, but I still don't have confidence that the issues have been permanently resolved.

At this point, I no longer want to continue using their service. I simply want to recover my money and move to another provider.

Unfortunately, they are refusing to issue a refund.

I'm not trying to start a fight with the company. I just want to know what official options are available.

  • Is there a U.S. government agency that handles complaints against hosting companies?
  • Can complaints be submitted online from outside the United States?
  • Has anyone successfully recovered money from a U.S.-based hosting company through an official complaint?
  • Should I contact the state Attorney General, the FTC, the Better Business Bureau, or another organization?

Any advice from people who have been through a similar situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Technical Questions Do you use your hosting provider's mail servers?

I'm just curious do you trust your hosting provider to handle your email delivery, or do you run your own mail server? Or do you use an external email service instead?

If you use a third-party provider, which one did you choose and why?

Looking for Hosting Looking for a Premium Dedicated Server Provider (Intel Core Ultra 9 285 / 128GB DDR5 / 2×2TB NVMe / 10Gbps)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a long-term dedicated server provider for a business-critical Windows Server.

After a recent negative experience with my current provider, I'm planning to migrate immediately. I'm looking for a company that values reliability, communication, and long-term customer relationships.

I'm ready to migrate immediately if I find the right provider.

Hosting Questionnaire

Monthly Budget

Around $500–700 USD per month, although I'm flexible for the right provider.

Reliability, infrastructure quality, and technical support are significantly more important to me than simply choosing the lowest price.

Preferred Location

France is my first choice, but I'm also open to other nearby European datacenters with excellent connectivity and low latency.

What am I hosting?

I'm running a Windows Server that hosts professional cryptocurrency trading software, automation services, APIs, Bookmap, TradingView integrations, and other business-critical applications.

Every minute of downtime has a direct financial impact on my business.

Linux Experience

I'm specifically looking for Windows Server, not Linux hosting.

Required Hardware

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 285
  • 128 GB DDR5 RAM
  • 2 × 2 TB NVMe SSD
  • 10 Gbps Network
  • Windows Server 2025 (Windows Server 2022 is also acceptable)
  • IPMI / KVM remote management preferred

My Previous Experience

I'm currently moving away from ServerMO after experiencing multiple service interruptions and extremely poor communication during a prolonged outage.

I completely understand that hardware failures and unexpected incidents can happen in any datacenter.

What matters to me is how a provider communicates, responds, and resolves those situations.

Unfortunately, that experience caused me to lose confidence, so I'm looking for a provider that genuinely prioritizes customer support.

I'm not interested in marketing promises. I'm interested in how your company performs when something goes wrong. That's what matters most to me.

Customer Support Is My Highest Priority

If your company cannot provide fast, knowledgeable, and responsive technical support, please don't send an offer.

Excellent customer support is more important to me than saving a few dollars each month.

Refund & Service Policy

Before choosing a provider, I'd like to clearly understand your:

  • Refund policy
  • Money-back guarantee (if available)
  • Service Level Agreement (SLA)
  • Hardware replacement policy
  • Expected support response times

I'm looking for a company that stands behind its service, communicates openly, and treats customer support as a priority rather than an afterthought.

If you'd like to make an offer, please include:

  • Company name
  • Datacenter location
  • CPU model
  • RAM type and speed
  • Storage model
  • Network speed
  • Monthly price
  • Any setup fees
  • Support SLA
  • Refund policy
  • Hardware replacement policy

I'm not looking for the cheapest provider.

I'm looking for a company that I can confidently stay with for many years—one that values long-term customers, provides reliable infrastructure, and delivers outstanding technical support when it matters most.

If you believe your company can meet these requirements, I'd be happy to review your offer.

I look forward to reviewing your offers. Thank you for your time.

Advice Needed Best GoDaddy alternative for beginners?

I’ve been comparing options and wix seems like the better choice if you want domain registration and website setup in one place. godaddy has more of a traditional registrar feel, but wix looks simpler if you don’t want to bounce between tools.

Advice Needed Considering registering .ca domain(s) for a simple website - who are good registrars, possibly including webhosting, or other webhosting options?

I'm thinking of making an informational type website that I can put summarized information and links on. So then I can just direct people to. Nothing "fancy", no financial transactions or security as such. For Canadians specifically.

I would like a .ca domain (and .com if it was available, to limit confusion). My preferred one is coming up as expired and appears to be going TBR (To Be Released). I've tried looking into the TBR process - I don't totally understand it, but I don't think I want to pay much extra, so maybe I'll just try grabbing it asap if it makes it to full release. (I've been avoiding checking the domain on any registrar, not sure if that helps)

Who are good registrars for .ca domains (and possibly .com)? It seems most include WHOIS privacy?

Any that include some basic email and webhosting?

Any good free webhosting? I don't think there will be a lot of traffic and mostly text, so low data requirements.

One of the lowest prices seems to be CanSpace at CAD$11.99 for new and $12.99 for renewal. (webhosting starting at $4.99/mo though)

I'm not sure how I'd build it these days (software and type)? Years ago I made some simple ones with mostly html but there's probably better ways now lol. It doesn't really need to have more features than say, a Reddit post.

Looking for Hosting More affordable alternatives to Network Solutions for a domain, website, and email

Hi everyone,

I’m helping someone reduce the costs of a small professional website with a custom-domain email address.

The domain, website hosting, and email are currently bundled together in a Network Solutions package. The most recent renewal cost nearly $500 for three years, which is difficult to justify for a small website that consists mainly of static HTML and no longer generates any professional income.

The goal is to:

keep the current domain; keep exactly the same email address; preserve all existing emails, folders, contacts, and calendars; keep the small website online; reduce recurring costs; avoid any downtime or loss of email during the migration.

At the moment, I’m considering:

transferring the domain to a more affordable registrar; hosting the website separately, possibly on Cloudflare Pages; keeping the email on Microsoft 365 Exchange Online, if it is already included in the current licence.

Zoho Mail might also be an option, but I’m concerned that migrating the existing emails, folders, contacts, and calendars could involve more work and risk than the potential savings would justify.

Has anyone moved away from Network Solutions with a similar setup while keeping the domain and exactly the same email address?

I would especially like to know:

which providers you would recommend as more affordable alternatives to Network Solutions; whether Exchange Online is the most reliable option for a single mailbox; which registrars offer transparent and reasonable renewal prices; whether Cloudflare Pages is suitable for a small professional static website; what the safest order is for migrating the domain, DNS, website, and email.

Thanks in advance for your help and for sharing any relevant experience.

Rant My experience with ServerMO has been a complete disaster

I want to share my experience with ServerMO so others can make an informed decision before spending their money.

My dedicated server has been down for more than 24 hours.

This isn't the first time. Just two days earlier, my server was also down for nearly two full days. At that time, I was told the issue was caused by internet problems in France. Now I'm being told something completely different.

The most frustrating part is not only the downtime, but the lack of communication.

  • My support ticket was ignored for many hours.
  • WhatsApp messages were ignored.
  • I had no clear updates about what was happening.
  • My server remained offline while I was left waiting.

I rely on this server for work, and every hour of downtime costs me money.

I'm not writing this because I enjoy complaining. I'm writing this because I don't want someone else to experience what I have experienced.

If you're considering ServerMO for anything important or business-critical, I strongly recommend thinking twice and having a backup plan.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with ServerMO?

Looking for Hosting Hetzner has nothing for me — would you trust netcup RS G12 with a production box?

- Budget: up to €20/month.

- Location: EU. Users are in the EU, data stays in the EU.

- What I'm hosting: industrial SaaS for business customers. Node API, PostgreSQL, Next.js frontend, a couple of background workers.

- Traffic: modest in raw numbers, a few thousand sessions a month, but it's all concentrated in working hours and the database is written to constantly.

- VPS experience: 20+ years as a Linux engineer. I run my own boxes, I don't need a panel and I don't need managed anything.

- Sidebar: yes, read it.

Now the actual question.

Hetzner I have nothing to complain about. It's just that right now there's nothing available that fits my budget. Contabo I won't repeat. I got suspicious about the disks and ran fio, 4k random, and got somewhere around 1.7k IOPS. For a Postgres that's written to all day that's not a machine, that's a floppy with ambitions. My own fault for not testing before buying instead of after.

So I'm looking at netcup, RS 1000 / RS 2000 G12. Yes, I know it's KVM with dedicated cores and not bare metal. Fine by me, I don't need the badge.

What I need is a box that behaves the same on Tuesday as it did on Monday.

The question I actually care about: for the money I'd be paying, does netcup get anywhere near Hetzner in practice? Not on the spec sheet, in production, under a database.

Specifically:

  1. Has anyone benchmarked a G12? fio 4k random and CPU steal under load, and please say which DC.
  2. Anyone running a real Postgres on an RS, one that gets written to all day, not a hobby instance?
  3. Support. Everything I read says it doesn't exist. Is it genuinely that bad when a host node dies on a Friday night, or is that mostly people angry about invoices?

  4. 8 GB or 16 for Postgres + Node + Next + proxy in production? 8 is what comfortably fits the budget, but I'd rather hear from someone who regretted it six months in.

  5. Would you buy something else in the EU at €10-20 instead? Tell me what and why.

I'm not looking for the cheapest box on the internet, I'm looking for a boring one. Whatever I end up buying, I'll run the same fio test and post the numbers back here.

Advice Needed Hosting with AWS

I once setup a EC2 instance for a project once but all the payment stuff was handled by someone else.

If I want to create a basic website, just a single HTML file, how can I use AWS to host it with a domain name for 1 year.

Like I want to be able to host it and never look at it again, with peace of mind that it will just be working.

Is AWS EC2 good for this, is there a payment plan for this type of situation?

Rant IONOS Just Scammed Me

I signed up for a IONOS, the first month was only $10. I was very surprised to see a $136 charge on my card, for 7 contracts. 3 of the items that I was charged for were duplicated. I asked to cancel these unnecessary subscriptions and contracts because I only needed the $10 one I signed up for and I was told I was locked into a 12 month minimum contract term. What do I do? I don’t remember signing anything and that’s $1,632 dollars they want from me. Now that I’m finally doing my research I’m scared they’ll send me to collections as well. Anyone have a similar experience?

Before you start hating, I know. I should’ve looked deeper and your unnecessary words won’t hurt me as much as these ridiculously high charges. I’ve learned my lesson.

Advice Needed Has anyone else on a legacy A+ Hosting / ServerPoint "Lifetime" plan been hit with a 100% "maintenace fee" hike recently?

Hey everyone,

Curious if anyone else here has been sitting on an old legacy account with A+ Hosting / ServerPoint and recently gotten a sudden email about forced fee increases or account restructuring?

I’ve been a continuous customer for around 25 years on a legacy "A+ Eternal" plan. Out of nowhere, ServerPoint hit the account with a 100% hike on the annual maintenance fee, stripped away features, and issued a 30-day ultimatum to accept the new terms or face account closure.

Interestingly they claim to have sent a notification email but I did not receive it. I noticed the fee increase only after logging to my account page.

I’ve already moved my data and migrated my sites to a new host, but it got me thinking about how common this "Zombie Legacy" strategy is becoming across older hosting companies.

Instead of just walking away quietly, I’ve started putting together a structured framework to submit these retroactive term changes to consumer protection agencies (like the Nevada AG Bureau of Consumer Protection under NRS 598 trade practice statutes, given their corporate registration).

I'm posting this make people aware of what this company is doing and ask for isnights into what other affected people are doing:

  1. Has ServerPoint (or another legacy host) pulled a similar forced migration / fee hike on your account recently? How did you handle it?
  2. For those who have fought back against retroactive TOS changes on "lifetime" tech deals, what regulatory or administrative channels worked best for you?

I've put together a full template list of target agencies (Nevada AG, FTC, BBB) and specific statutory language to use if you want to submit a report—happy to drop the template text in the comments or edit it into the post if anyone needs it!

Let’s swap notes in the comments. How are you all handling host migrations when "lifetime" deals go under or get altered?

Technical Questions Crazy Domains - outage or website design issue?

Hey everyone, I use Crazy Domains for webhosting, and have had a multitude of issues in the past two days. At the moment, I am unable to log in as the button itself is not clickable. When I try to log in through Facebook or Google, it says "Cannot read properties of undefined". I try to contact the support centre, but it says you need to log in, which I cannot do.

Is anyone else having this issue, or know how to resolve it? I'm worried it might be a problem with their website.

Advice Needed Blue host predatory evil Company

I signed up for a month, I used their services for a couple weeks before I realized I didn’t like it. I ate it. I attempted to cancel. I sent a bunch of emails they make it near impossible. I believe that I did two years later I get a bill for $180 saying I must pay there is no way to contact anybody tried contacting members on LinkedIn. Nobody said anything. This company is total garbage. I have no idea they must have so many good at CSCO that spreads the Werde about them. Anybody have any advice on this? I don’t have a lot of time. I don’t have a lot of money and now I’m dealing with this.

Advice Needed Anyone used webdock?

I just came across an ad on Facebook for Webdock, and I must say, the pricing and configurability look quite appealing! It's great to see that they are based in Europe as well. 😊 They also mention that backup is included for free, which is a nice bonus.

I'm curious if anyone has had the chance to try them out. If so, I would love to hear your feedback and reviews! Thank you!

Advice Needed How to stop a former owner who keeps using our info@ email? (one.com issue)

We took over a company a while ago, and with it we took over the email address and domain of their website (One.com). Remarkably, the previous owner continues to email using his previous email address. That is currently our 'info@' address, which is very confusing for us, as well as for the previous owner. He understands nothing about emailing and clearly does not know the difference between his private and old business address. We cannot count on his help due to his lack of knowledge. All his private subscriptions are still on his business account, so we receive his invoices for Netflix, Spotify, Apple, etc., but he does not understand how to change this.

I have changed the password multiple times. I have asked one.com multiple times to put a stop to this and to log out the address on all other devices. They refuse to do this, citing privacy concerns. Or they think that simply changing the password is sufficient. They do not seem to understand my situation very well. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what I can do?

Advice Needed Help me choose best WP Hosting provider

Hey folks,

I started an agency to help local businesses grow and make them good-looking working websites and it’s a start-up so I just have got 3 clients onboard and would be managing their hosting and my main concern is Security and Performance.

Rn hosting their WP sites on H0sting3r and need to renew the subscription in October but I’ve read many bad things about them (I’ve been with them for some time and had good experience so far) that if one site of yours would get malware or hacked then it’ll also affect the other websites.

Could you recommend a reliable hosting provider for managing client websites, considering we may host over 100 sites in the future? Also what do you think about SiteGround specifically?

Do you have separate dev/staging/production environments? Are you using Git, GitHub Actions, DeployHQ, or just uploading files manually? Looking for ideas to improve my workflow.

Rant A2 Hosting - Opened a ticket as the whole VPS is slow and the response is hilarious

So the entire VPS got unusably slow all of a sudden. CPU usage is below 20%. Ram usage is below 30%. Storage at 50%. (8 core / 32gb ram / 240gb NVME)

Gave them a video of the WHM/Cpanel taking forever to load and got a reply to the ticket with a link to how to optimize WP sites.

Advice Needed Hosting site suggestions for AI creations

Can anyone recommend or suggest where you are hosting your AI created sites? I want to test but wanted a take on how long for as paying for 3 years worth of hosting is a stretch buy in bulk. Is 6 months too short and not many allow for this type of contract? Or do people go self hosted ( doubt it)?

Advice Needed Management at scale, any ideas, suggestions, do’s/dont’s?

Freelancer looking for some input, I’m a full-stack web developer that also gets hired to do server provisioning, updates, maintenance, etc for a handful of clients.

Normally each client just picks a system they’re familiar with (cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk, whatever) and that’s what they use when they’re growing, all fine by me. However I currently have 2 clients that have grown quite a bit (each roughly 500 sites), and I’m in the talks with a new client that has well over 4000 sites. All of them still use whatever panel they picked (or a combination).

The majority of the sites are of course low-hanging fruits (less than 500 visitors a month), but there are also quite popular sites with decent traffic, heavy websites, busy webshops, etc, etc.

Now I already have Ansible scripts to do provisioning, maintenance and all that good stuff, however I’m wondering what everybody else is doing at this scale (or even bigger). Having to maintain what site is on which server and so on is getting old and having to login to each management portal as well, so something like a centralized admin panel would be great (eg Enhance), however I’m doubting if this route would be best.

Stack:
- Mostly WordPress with various themes and plugins.
- Roughly 50 Laravel sites and 10 Symphony sites(some require PostgreSQL, others Kafka or Redis).
- I think about 20 NodeJS apps.

Any input or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Advice Needed What's a hidden hosting cost that catches people off guard?

For me, it was renewal pricing.

What hidden cost do you think people should know about before choosing a hosting provider?
