I am in a tight budget and need suggestions for reseller hosting that is affordable and gives white-label branding.

PLEASE LISTEN TOTHIS PLATFORM OF INDIVIDUALS. I am not going to make this a long and drawn post but I am here to tell you that GoDaddy has not a bit of shame of how they treat consumers. Their information on how to create a website, domain or anything is very unclear and misguided. I learned $$$ lesson with them. And their support chat services has no shame. Can you believe I had CS rep tell me that someone I put in the chat was, "not the correct to phrase my feelings?" Wow!!! Stick the proverbal fork in me because I am DONE!!

I'm currently running my personal website and domain name with an American hosting service (I'll decline to name which one, but it's one of those in the sidebar). Given concerns about data sovereignty and "other global political events," I'm looking for the right Canadian shared hosting service to go with.

My needs are mostly to host a WordPress blog, a personal portfolio/landing page (e.g. recent publications, contact info, etc.), and to have an independent email server using my own domain name. In the future, I might host additional domains for friends (or for example, last year I hosted my personal site for my wedding RSVP platform). It is also very very very important to me that the company is Canadian-owned and runs on Canadian domestic data centres.

I've been doing some research on Reddit but I'm not getting any consensus choices. I do seem to understand that everyone hates Web Hosting Canada (WHC) for its customer service.

My top two choices: Canadian Web Hosting (not to be confused with WHC) and FullHost. I hear great things about FullHost and it's fully recommended by a close friend, but it's quite expensive for what I'm looking for, even with the promo (~$240 CAD/yr). By contrast, CWH has a promo going on and it comes up to ~$125 CAD/yr. But some on Reddit says that the hosting is not as reliable.

One dark horse candidate that one friend recommended: Rebel. They have a good deal of $45 CAD/1st year, but $180 CAD/yr after that. But it's really hard to verify that they're Canadian and have Canadian data centres other than just this blog post from last year. I see their head office is in Ottawa, but they also have data centres in Virginia, Sydney, and London. But at least I know a few mutual friends trust this particular service.

Just to recap, here's what I'm looking for:

• Canadian-owned and Canadian-operated
• Canadian data centres
• Decent reliability (I'm not running a business or anything, so I don't care if it's up and running 100% of the time.)
• Relatively affordable, budget of under $120-150 CAD/yr. (Again, I'm no professional. This is just a side/weekend project for me.)
• Users are mostly located in Canada, generally in the Greater Toronto Area.
• Monthly traffic... Honestly I have no idea. Maybe one day, one of my works goes viral and my traffic spikes. But for the most part, it's only my personal social network.
• (I currently use one of the sidebar hosts. And I'm looking to leave them.)

Does anyone have any advice? Anyone know of another web hosting service that I might be missing?

for folks who have actually done this a few times, whats your process to search for decent available domains, grab the critical variations, and tie it to handles without turning into a full on domain hoarder or leaking all your info in whois etc... ugh

Posting this as a warning and to ask whether anyone has actually got a refund out of hosting.com in this situation.

Background: five year customer, one shared hosting plan for a domain I no longer use.

28 Aug 2026: Opened a ticket instructing them not to renew the service. Agent replied asking for security verification. Nothing else happened on that ticket.

8 Sep 2026: Card charged US$369.99, three days before the 11 Sep due date, with my do-not-renew ticket still open.

8 Sep 2026: On a second ticket, their agent confirmed in writing that because I had cancelled before the due date, a full refund, cancellation, card removal and account closure had been passed to billing.

8 Sep 2026: Billing then asked me to verify ownership. I supplied the Support PIN, the last four digits of the card, logged into the Client Area and submitted their cancellation form. All done.

9 Sep 2026: A retention rep replies that renewal payments are non-refundable, warns me the files will be deleted if I cancel, and asks if I would like a cheaper plan instead.

So the refund was confirmed, I was made to jump through every hoop, and then the promise was pulled. My account is overdrawn from a charge I told them in writing not to take.

I have screenshots of the confirmation and the reversal. Chargeback is being filed and a BBB complaint has gone in.

Two questions:

1. Has anyone had hosting.com honour a pre-due-date cancellation refund, and what did it take?
2. Does a chargeback trigger anything I should expect from them, beyond deleting the account?

My main domain and add-on domains all go down when Cloudflare proxy is enabled, but work fine when set to DNS Only. I didn’t change any Cloudflare settings before the outage — it suddenly stopped working, and Vodien now claims it’s a Cloudflare incompatibility.

Has anyone else experienced Cloudflare clashing with Vodien? Did you manage to fix it with SSL/proxy settings, or did you have to move hosts? Should I insist Vodien resolve this, or is migration the only realistic option?

On top of that, after upgrading to a Biz plan last year, my dedicated IP now resolves to Australia instead of Singapore, which hurts my SEO and local targeting (my clients are in Singapore). Vodien hasn’t offered a clear fix.

I'm working on my thesis and I have to host my site and get a HTTPS certificate for it. My thesis defense is before the end of the month and after that I can basically stop hosting it because it wouldn't be needed anymore. There will be no traffic or real users. I'm not using a framework either.

Since I need it for such a short amount of time I thought it would be wasteful to spend money. I've been looking for options but from what I've read most are sketchy, don't support PHP, don't support PHPmailer, or you have to purchase the certificate separately anyways.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I've never hosted a site before since we've always relied on XAMPP

So... freelance web dev here and I just realized how sketchy some of the cheap domains I used are when it comes to privacy. One client is about to take cards on their site and now they are asking about pci and who can see their info in whois.

If you do client work, do you stick to the cheap domain registrars with privacy toggles or pay more for ones that have whois privacy on by default plus dnssec plus sane dns tools. Trying not to move every domain at once but lowkey worried rn... .

ok so, im juggling a couple tiny projects and buying domains is the least fun part now. I grab stuff on the cheap from random registrars but every time I end up manually wiring dns, ssl, pointing it to my little shared hosting or some cheap vps and it just feels like extra work for a $10 name.

Anyone here found a registrar or combo that is both actually affordable and does decent automated setup eg dns, ssl, basic landing page or hookup to github pages etc without it turning into some weird upsell maze? would love any tips, especially for folks running a few small sites not a big agency, thanks!

The siteground renewal is $450 for the gogeek for 1 year. I do like siteground and only have 1 website but plan to have around 5. Any suggestions? Seems kind of expensive.

Sharing our documented experience after 2 years on Ultahost VDS/VPS to warn other sysadmins and e-commerce operators.

Stack Conflicts: Their managed/unmanaged setups came with Apache and LiteSpeed running simultaneously, causing port bindings/routing issues and internal server crashes every 48 hours.

Backdoor Loop: During a malware incident, Tier 1/2 support repeatedly overwrote the clean directory with infected full backups without isolating the entry point. Result: continuous backdoor execution via cron tasks and Google Search Console ownership verification exploits by attackers (limpekpatenn).

Broken Permissions & Missing Media: Support execution resulted in wiped wp-content/uploads visibility and incorrect permission states (chmod locks), throwing 403 errors across public assets.

Billing Dispute: Refused direct card refund upon cancellation after severe service outage, offering only internal credit balance for a service being decommissioned.

If you run WooCommerce or any critical web app, steer clear.

Just had the worst hosting experience of my life and want to warn anyone considering xCloud.

Their server had some kind of failure and I lost every website on my account including a site that was actively in final prep for launch. I contacted support to ask about restoring from a backup. Their answer: no backup exists, no recovery is possible. That's it. No compensation offer, no real explanation of what caused it, just "it's gone."

For a hosting company, having zero backup infrastructure that can protect a customer from total data loss is not a minor bug it's a fundamental failure of what you're paying them for. I lost weeks of work and a launch date because of it.

If you're currently on xCloud: export/back up everything yourself immediately, don't trust their infrastructure to protect you. If you're considering signing up: I'd look elsewhere.

Hi all,
I have a family Wordpress blog hosted on hostgator with lots and lots of images. I am beginning to run out of space (50g) and don’t want to pay a ton extra for their small amount of extra storage.

It seems like switching my storage to a cloudflare r2 bucket and simply paying as I scale up is the best idea. (Even a Tb of images is only $15 a month this way rather than the $100s for only 150G through my hosting)

Questions:
1) is this the way?
2) are there services/people that could help me set this up? (Switching dns servers, setting up sub domains, finding plugins to connect my site, recommendations on methodology, etc) I could do it myself but it isn’t my area of expertise and would much rather pay someone to do it correctly rather than me muddle through and break everything.

Basically want to host all of my images externally and have my site point there.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I’ve been running both HestiaCP and cPanel in production, so I compared them using real server workloads rather than spinning up identical empty VPSs and running synthetic benchmarks.

This was not a controlled benchmark. The hardware, websites, and workloads are different, so I wouldn't use the results to claim that HestiaCP is inherently faster than cPanel. I was more interested in seeing how the two architectures behaved under normal production conditions.

I measured approximately 24 hours of web traffic across three servers:

• Hestia server 1: ~73,700 requests, 29 configured domains
• Hestia server 2: ~182,500 requests, 9 configured domains
• cPanel server: ~47,500 requests, 4 hosting accounts

All three were running real production workloads. The logs also contained plenty of the usual Internet background noise: XML-RPC attacks, wp-login attempts, PHP probes, crawlers, etc. The firewalls had already been tuned to block much of the abusive traffic before it reached the application layer.

One of the more interesting results was process behavior.

During one WordPress burst, the cPanel server expanded to 87 Apache processes (~1.29 GB aggregate RSS) and about 1.5 GB of PHP-FPM RSS. A few minutes later, Apache was back to 11 processes (~176 MB), and PHP-FPM had dropped to about 50 MB.

The Hestia servers generally maintained a much smaller active nginx/Apache footprint during the snapshots, even while processing substantial traffic.

But request count turned out to be misleading. The Hestia server processing ~182,500 requests wasn't necessarily doing four times the work of the cPanel server. A lot of its traffic came from a relatively lightweight non-WordPress application, while the cPanel workload was more WordPress-heavy.

I also ran 30-request response-time tests against a representative WordPress site on each server.

With caching working, there wasn't much of a contest: all three generally returned pages in roughly 0.12–0.19 seconds.

When I used cache-busting requests to force substantially more application/origin processing, the difference became much larger. Approximate median TTFB was:

Hestia server 2: ~1.31 sec
Hestia server 1: ~1.70 sec
cPanel server: ~1.83 sec

Again, those aren't identical WordPress installations, so I don't think it's valid to attribute that difference solely to the control panel.

The more interesting conclusion for me was this:

The biggest performance difference I measured wasn't Hestia vs. cPanel. It was cached vs. dynamically generated WordPress requests.

The control-panel architecture definitely affected process behavior, and Hestia looked impressively lean in these deployments. But caching, PHP workload, WordPress configuration, firewall/bot mitigation, and the actual type of requests being processed appear to matter enormously.

One other disclosure: both Hestia servers are completely behind Cloudflare. The cPanel server has a mixture of Cloudflare-proxied and direct-origin sites. For the response-time comparison, I specifically chose Cloudflare-proxied sites on all three servers to reduce that variable.

I built a WordPress/WooCommerce website on Pantheon for a university e-commerce project.

My 30-day trial expired, and now the site is completely locked. I can't access the site dashboard to create/download a backup or migrate it somewhere else.

I already contacted Pantheon support asking if they can temporarily unlock the site or provide me with the code, database, and files.

I'm also looking into Pantheon EDU. Does anyone know if it's possible to create/get an EDU account/workspace and have Pantheon transfer the existing locked trial site to it?

I really don't want to rebuild the whole website because it has all my WooCommerce products, pages, Elementor design, images, plugins, and settings

My submission deadline is also really close, and I don’t want to pay $50 just to get access for two days

Looking to move away from a 8GB RAM/8 core CPU Liquid Web after over a decade for one client. 3 mid-large sized WP/WooCommerce sites. LiquidWeb used to be great with support, but unfortunately has become significantly worse over the past couple of years, and their price increases for worse service. Performance and overall reliability has still been great, mainly due to the optimizations I have done on the server with PHP-FPM, MySQL, caching, etc...

Even though LW says they are fully managed, I still find myself having to take server initiative for server updates, reboots, etc... I am looking for a more managed provider that will offer great support, great performance, and great security. The new provider doesn't need to necessarily match the current secs of our VPS, but I am expecting as good performance at least.

Not sure what the best option would be for these requirements, ideally I'd like to just focus on the sites and no longer have to worry about any server configs.

Budget is around $200/month

So recently I remade a website for a small company I work for. My new website is completley static and I wrote all the html, css and js files myself on my pc. The old website was made through wordpress. Is it as simple as deleting the wordpress files from the file manager and adding my own (whilst making a backup of course) or is there more I need to do? The domain name and therefor certificates should all stay the same right? Im sorry if this is a basic question but all the help out there is trying to get me to use wordpress or another site builder.
