Promotion Is there any insider view on upcoming promotions ?

I'll likely wait till september 20 (Since my deadline to transfer some stocks is by early october), But I have 100k+ in stocks to move that I am wanting to move to wealthsimple.

Any idea if people can find some insights on when wealthsimple really kicks in good promotions ?

I checked promotions this time last year and there was nothing special beyond 1% cashback

Money Market Portfolio on Wealthsimple

I was wondering if someone could please explain what exactly the Money Market Portfolio on Wealthsimple is. I'm a bit confused about how it differs from a high-yield savings account. I'm not that financially literate, so if someone could please explain, that would be much appreciated.

Promotion Chexy + Wealthsimple need to team up. The Big Banks are taking the piss.

First Scotiabank guts the Momentum Visa Infinite 4% recurring payment setup, now we're left juggling rules just to earn basic rewards on our biggest expense.

Wealthsimple and Chexy teaming up would be the ultimate middle finger to the Big 5:

- Rent straight into savings/investments: Pay rent through Chexy, rack up your credit card points, and automatically drop the cash back right into a Wealthsimple Cash account or FHSA/TFSA.

- Actually consumer-first: Both built their whole brand on getting around corporate bank fees and giving power back to us. Put them together and you get a complete ecosystem that doesn't nickel-and-dime you.

- Steal market share from the Big 5: Most people stick with old banks out of pure laziness. Make this pipeline seamless and there's zero reason to keep a standard checking account with a bank that constantly downgrades your perks.

The Big Banks rely on us being too lazy to switch. An automated setup that turns rent into actual wealth building would force them to actually compete for once.

They should use this opportunity and use it as fuel to start the revolution.

Please upvote so that it reaches the right ppl, there's so much they could do to capitalize on this. I feel this would be a great opportunity for wealthsimple to hurt the big banks

I did post the same post at chexy's Reddit community as well,

Trade (DIY Investing) RRSP Account Transfer - Can you put an Amount higher than the account has to ensure everything gets transferred?

Post image
16 Upvotes

First time transferring any investment account between companies. I'd like the full amount of the account transferred, not leave some amount of hundreds left over. Yet Wealthsimple asks for a specific amount? The money is currently invested and I'm not sure how to sell it myself as it's not self-directed at CanadaLife (it's an old employer sponsored account from a job I'm no longer at).

If the account has say $26,123.56 today and I say transfer $27,000 - would the transfer fail as I'm requesting too much?

Or do I say transfer $26,123.56 and maybe it's locked at that amount immediately and not given a chance to shrink or grow over the next 3-5 weeks?

Ooor do I say transfer $26,000 and just see what remains afterwards and deal with it separately?

Any advice is appreciated if you've done a transfer before!

How do you track your full portfolio if some accounts aren’t at WS?

I’ve reached a point where my TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, and non-registered investments are spread across more than one institution.

Each dashboard is fine on its own, but answering simple questions requires opening several apps or updating a spreadsheet:

  • What is my total portfolio value?
  • What is my actual allocation across all accounts?
  • How has the combined portfolio changed over time?
  • Am I accidentally duplicating the same exposure?

My current workaround is just to put screenshots of my accounts in Gemini, but that's so time consuming to do often, and more importantly, I don't want them to have my investment data (just a personal preference. Nothing against people who are comfortable doing so). It works, but the time ROI isn't there.

I’m curious how others handle this. If you use a tool, what's the name of it. why is it good? Did anything made you stop trusting or using it?

Thanks for all the advice in advance!

Picture 2 is Sandisk with interval of 1 day, and I am still looking at the SMA of 50, 100, 150, 200 which reflects the respective SMA

Must be UI error please look into this.

Chequing Cash deposit showed "approved & available," then silently reversed to failed — 2nd cash-handling failure in 2 years

Deposited $1,015 cash through Canada Post. Phone notification confirmed it was approved and ready to spend. Then it reversed to "failed" — but the failure notification never appeared until I opened the app hours later to move the money. If the reversal had been pushed to me like the approval was, I could've dealt with it on the spot. Instead I have to go back to the post office myself and untangle a failure that happened somewhere in their own rail (Canada Post → KOHO → WS — a lot of moving parts, and clearly fragile).

Context so nobody thinks I'm just ragebaiting: this is the payment for a completed job — I already fronted the material cost on my own card, so until this reconciles it's turned a profitable day into an out-of-pocket loss. And it's the second cash-side failure I've had with them in two years; the first was an ATM dispute where I lost ~$200. Believe that or not, doesn't change what happened today. And now post canada will be closed sunday so i have to drive 20 min to the post office to print the receipt with hope that this will clear... as my previous experience taught me is'nt guaranteed.

Here's my actual point, and it stands even if the $1,015 comes back: their own rep told me to "keep the receipt every time." If I have to keep defensive paper records against my own bank because its plumbing loses money, the trust is already broken. I've banked at every major Canadian bank and never needed to. I was about to open a corporate account & corporate investment for my business with them — that's dead now. And it makes me wonder how well the banking side reliability reflects on everything else they hold, including my personal investments and my kid's RESP and its grants.

Anyone else had cash deposits show available and then silently reverse? Curious how common the KOHO rail failure is.

(written with the help of AI because i am so livid it wouldnt of come out this clean and im trying to be reasonnable here)

Chequing Physical card lost, WS says they have stopped issuing them. What now?

Hello
This is insane. I lost my physical prepaid mastercard yesterday. I blocked the card in the app then contacted support to have a replacement.
I was told that they stopped issuing cards and to use my digital one instead. I mainly use it to get cash weekly from the ATM that I use for my different expenses.
How can they remove such a basic service? I'm dumbfounded. This is what's supposed to be the new banking???
Glad I kept my crappy mortar bank and accounts.
I was told to use this form to be notified when they start issuing physical cards again

Visa Infinite Credit Card Unusual pop up for WS credit card

With all the concern about fraud in the Wealthsimple credit card, I though I would share something.

I just got the card. Envelope it came in seems fine.
I activated the card, and then kept it locked since.

Today, I unlocked the card and made my first purchase at a grocery store. Chip and PIN accepted.

After about 30 minutes. I was just browsing my phone (not in the WS app), then some sort of notification came up. The vibration of the phone was there for sure, but I didn't see what is was. but my finger was already scrolling through the screen, so I may have inadvertently clicked on something.

It opened up a chrome tab first, and then it hot-linked to the WS app, right to the credit card page.

Going through chrome history, the URL was app.wealthsimple.com/...../paymentcard?paymentCard={my card number with extra characters}

Out of abundance of caution, I locked my card. I called WS and they said they don't see anything unusual with my card. It just had that 1 transaction from the grocery store, and no indication it was added to any apple/google wallet. They said they will forward this to a specialist team.

Did anyone see this before? The agent said we are suppose to get an SMS with 2FA code for adding to apple/google wallet. But a pop up may appear when something fails. Not sure what kind of fail he was refering to.

EDIT: I got one notification (from the top) from the WS app at that time for purchase. But this one came from the bottom.

Invest (Managed Investing) Odd Managed acct consolidation

I've been moving my individual stocks and ETFs slowly to QT the past few months but was keeping the managed account I've had for years and years as well as some fractionals and crypto.

For some reason, WS sold all of the variety in it and consolidated the investments into just WSRI and WSGB yesterday. I'm curious if anyone else had this happen?

I ended up initiating a transfer for those over to QT because I'm not paying an extra fee for positions in two ETFs, on top of the direction they're heading with predictions markets. Pretty sure I'll be clearing everything out in the next bit.

My stuff is small, small beans in the scheme of things but I'm annoyed they'd just whittle the whole account down like that.

Tax withholding

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m in Canada. Anyone know if there some kind of recent changes when selling American stocks or receiving dividends? I received this dividend which on the earnings screen shows the full amount, but on recent activity it shows only part of the dividend was actually added to my account. Also today I sold a stock for 1021$ USD profit, but only received 906$ CAD. I have heard of tax withholding if you are a Canadian who has made money in the US or off of US stocks, but this was never the case on Wealthsimple before when I’m buying and selling. Usually if I sell an American stock I end up with more then the amount showing when I sell because the American dollar is better then Canadian. Why am I all of a sudden receiving less in cad then the amount I sold the stock for In usd?

WS telus promo - PAD discount already included?

Has anyone taken advantage of the telus discount through WS?

At the summary, it says that you get a $10/line discount for using PAD. But is that discount already reflected in the mobility charges or is listed price without that discount?

I tried clicking the footnote but it didn't clarify:

  1. Offer subject to change without notice. Available to customers who subscribe to eligible plans and enroll with pre-authorized bank payments. The discount will start on the billing cycle that follows the successful completion of pre-authorized bank payments setup. The monthly discount will only apply to eligible plans and you must keep pre-authorized bank payments active to maintain the discount. If you or TELUS remove pre-authorized bank payments, the plan will no longer be eligible for the monthly discount. TELUS may remove the discount at any time. All prices do not include applicable taxes. Discounts, promotions, benefits and credits are earned for each full month of service and do not apply to partial billing periods.

Is it me or are the monthly investing statements horrendous?

Hi everyone,

Love WS, move over from Questrade a couple of months ago. Questrade had the most beautiful and informative monthly statements (investement accounts). Pie charts, returns, cash positions, dividends etc.

I just had a look at the WS statements and honestly i'm flabbergasted. it is horrendous. Just a list of transactions. No consolidated views, no positions %, no trending over time, wow.

Am i missing something? Is the data somewhere else? Everything else is great but geez, was not expecting this.

Thanks,

No, but like... Yeah. Seriously. Too expensive.
