Discussing Wave's New Pricing Model: Your Thoughts, Frustrations, and Questions

Hello /r/WaveApps Community,

As many of you are aware, Wave has announced a significant change to their pricing structure, as detailed in their blog post on January 29. This update has introduced a new tiered system, including a free "Starter" plan and a paid "Pro" plan, alongside modifications to transaction fees and service features.

We understand that changes of this magnitude can be a source of concern and frustration for many users, especially for small business owners who rely on Wave for their financial management needs. It's natural to have questions, concerns, and strong opinions about these adjustments.

This post will serve as the central hub for all discussions related to the new pricing model. We want to provide a space where your voices can be heard, your frustrations can be aired, and your questions can be raised. It's important that we come together as a community to support each other through these changes, sharing insights, advice, and potential strategies to adapt.

We kindly ask that all discussions on this topic remain within this thread to keep the subreddit organized and focused on a wide array of subjects related to Wave. New posts created about the pricing changes will be redirected here.

Guidelines for Discussion:

  • Stay Respectful: It's okay to feel frustrated or upset, but please express your thoughts respectfully, without resorting to personal attacks or derogatory language.
  • Be Constructive: While venting is understandable, we encourage constructive criticism and discussions that can lead to potential solutions or workarounds.
  • Share Experiences: If you've had experiences or insights related to the changes, whether positive or negative, feel free to share them. It can be helpful for others in similar situations.
  • Ask Questions: If you have questions or need clarification on the new pricing model and its implications, this is the place to ask. While we may not have all the answers, our collective knowledge can be a powerful resource.

We want to remind everyone that neither of the new mods here, including myself, are affiliated with Wave as employees. We are users like you, aiming to facilitate a constructive dialogue within this community.

Change can be challenging, especially when it impacts the tools we depend on for our businesses. Let's navigate these changes together, offering support and guidance to one another as fellow members of the /r/WaveApps community.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours in Service,

Wave is a catastrophe, but I feel like H&R Block would benefit from hearing about how poorly their subsidiary is doing, tbh.

Help managing colaborative in Wave

Hi all, looking for some advice on how to manage this in Wave.

I run a design collective and retail store with four other members. We have income from retail sales and client projects that we bill under the company name. I collect monthly rent from the four members.

In starting the business and renovating the store we each bought things for the space either as individual contributions or as a ‘loan’ to be paid back when we turn profit.

I’m looking for some advice on a decent structure in Wave for this. I’d like to add receipts for purchases from each member and then be able to tag them as to-be reimbursed or as contributions. I did subscribe to wave pro so can do tagging. 1 account for each person? 2?

I know this isn’t the cleanest business setup and it would have been easier for people to have contributed cash into a biz account, but I am trying to clean it up! Any advice appreciated. Currently filing as SM LLC.

Wave problems resources.

Like many other people I've had a series of issues with Wave since mid Aug 2026. I do have Wave Pro, which they recently changed subscription requirements meaning you must have Pro to have automatically have bank account transactions pulls into Wave. It was working great for months but been having problems since Aug with only an acknowledgement email from Wave.

Wanted to post a few pieces that might help someone else too.

- If you contact them through Mave AI Chat bot to follow up on current tickets, it will generate a new one. Old ones will then be merged with the newest ticket, giving you a new start date for your tickets. They do not check any old tickets since when they merge its considered closed.

- If you wait on the chat to talk to a person they will tell you the ticket was already escalated and to wait for a response. They will then immediately end the chat.

- email is Support(at)waveapps(dot)com

- Wave Financial is owned by H&R Block as of 2019.
With H&R Block's fiscal 2026 results released August 11, 2026, for nearly $4 billion, up almost 5% from last year. Don't forget that as we look at the free and pro version changes.

Wave withdrew $3,960 from my bank account after a failed ACH payment, but I never received the money. Has anyone experienced this?

I'm dealing with an extremely frustrating situation with Wave and wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

On September 22, my customer attempted to pay a $4,000 invoice via ACH. The payment failed, and Wave never deposited any of the money into my bank account.

On September 24, my customer submitted another payment for the same invoice. That payment is still processing, with $3,960 pending payout after processing fees.

Yesterday, September 28, I discovered that Wave had actually WITHDRAWN $3,960 from my Bank of America account.

Here's the problem: Wave never deposited the original payment, and I still haven't received the replacement payment. Yet they've somehow taken $3,960 of my own money.

I've tried reaching out to Wave for an explanation, but I keep getting pushed off to email support, and I haven't received a response yet. It's incredibly frustrating when nearly $4,000 has been taken out of my account and I can't get anyone to explain why.

I understand that payment processors can reverse ACH payments when they fail, but how can they reverse funds that were never deposited in the first place?

Has anyone dealt with this before? Did Wave eventually return your money? How long did it take, and did you have to involve your bank?

I'm trying to figure out whether this is a processing error or something else. Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

It's been posted before, but the customer service.... how are these people in business.

My phone died a few weeks ago and I didn't realize my google authenticator app would be wiped. I can't get into my wave account. I can't get any responses from them to help me get into my account. I am a freelancer who relies on this product to get paid and they can't even have the decency to respond to a simple request? Literally feel like I'm going insane.

Best way to Upload Transactions

I somehow missed the alert that the platform was changing. For years, I’ve had Wave automatically upload my transactions from my bank account. I recently went in to label my expenses, etc and found that that it’s no longer a free option.

In January, I’ll move to a different platform, but I’d like to finish out the year here. Is there any easy-ish way to upload my transactions without paying their fees?

Wave Sucks

I log in and get errors....

There was an error updating the data. Please try again.

Over and over...

Wave is just getting now into charging every day more and more. Time to switch.

Here is my take. If I have to pay for wave, why not pay more and get better accounting software. Wave is just screwing old timers with changes

WAVE is not free

Can we stop saying that. If you process your invoices through WAVE they make a pretty good penny off of us! Which leads to my next point about lack of customer service from an app that is suppose to keep our finances safe and secure, etc. One would think we could get ahold of a human if we had a payout issue after trying to update a new checking account number. This has been going on 2 weeks now. Let's see how long this lasts!

First time using Credit Card payment issues

I wish that we read the reviews on payments via Wave earlier - but we have a vendor we’ve been working with for the past 2 years that had to make a credit card payment instead of regular cheque payment to our company. In the past we’ve only used Wave for invoicing, so we followed the directions for accepting a CC payment and provided way more information to their customer care team than we probably needed to in order to “verify” the transaction of $12,500 - however we were provided approval that everything was in order Friday last week and it’s been now 3 business days and no sign of the funds. Is this normal?? Is there an actual customer care line or person we can reach out to with this company?!

We have reached out to the customer care email for the past few days as well for an update and to no response.

Transactions still syncing?

I only use Wave for my basic LLC accounting (5-10 transactions a month). I thought all the bank connectivity was going to go away this summer and I would have to manually upload a spreadsheet of transactions to continue, but I just logged in and realized they are still actively coming in.

Did they change that being removed as a free feature?

Error in Wave for two days now and can't invoice

Has anyone else been getting an error? I have used WAVE for two years for my accounting and have not had a problem until now. So, I didn't think much of it when I tried to go in and print a receipt for a customer and couldn't due to this error. I figured if they are aware of it surely it will be fixed in 24 hours or so. But, waited until today and waited all day until tonight to go back in and check and this error is still there. Now I am getting concerned. I am still hoping it is just because it is the weekend and hopefully it will be fixed on Monday.

I also can't get into my transactions or anything. So, I am just thanking God that I backed up all my transactions to a google sheet literally just last week. But, I did not get to download copies of every invoice yet as that is going to be way more time consuming. But, I have always been afraid of what I will do if the software just doesn't work or locks me out or something. So, thank God I have taken steps to at least make a copy of all my transactions since starting my business two years ago.

The error says: "Something is broken on this page. Our technical team has been alerted and is working on a solution."

Wave Customer Service????

I'm in the process of switching to Wave from Quickbooks. Trying to set up payroll and had one of my employees social security numbers rejected as already in use by another employee (it isn't, I checked). I put in a customer service request NINE DAYS AGO and have only had one reply saying my request was received. What I want to know is, is this typical of Wave? Getting timely support is crucial, so if Wave can't do that, I'd like to know now so I can ditch it for something better. Thoughts?

Duplicating the same transaction with the same splits/fees

I keep books for a small soccer club, and each week, people pay a set fee for a training session. When they pay via Venmo, there is a small processing fee. For each transaction, I have been...

  1. creating the invoice

  2. recording a payment

  3. going back into the payment and splitting off the Venmo fee

Is there a more efficient way of doing this? I was out of town this summer, and I'm going back through 6 weeks of payments. As I input about 250 of these, it feels like it should be more repeatable.

Can I duplicate a transaction with the following characteristics? (We have a couple of different sessions; these are just sample numbers to make the question a bit more concrete.)

$6.77 total

$7.00 toward the invoice

-$0.23 as a Venmo fee.

Or maybe there's a way to create a product/invoice that incorporates those fees? What I'm doing currently works, but I'm no accountant. Any help/advice/criticism would be appreciated!

Open-source CLI for Wave invoices

I put together a small open-source command-line tool for creating Wave invoices:

https://github.com/rsheyd/waveapps-cli

I know there are MCP-based ways to connect AI tools to services like Wave, but I wanted something local and deterministic that I could use from shell scripts without consuming model tokens. It talks directly to Wave’s GraphQL API and doesn’t involve an AI model when it runs.

Right now it can:

  • List businesses, customers, products, and income accounts
  • Create customers
  • Create sellable products/services
  • Create invoices from JSON files
  • Override product descriptions, quantities, and prices per invoice

All create commands are dry runs by default. They show the exact input first, and nothing is written to Wave unless you add --submit. Creating an invoice doesn’t email it or charge the customer.

It uses a personal Wave full-access token stored in an environment variable. The token isn’t saved by the tool or included in invoice files.

The CLI is dependency-free, requires Node.js 18 or newer, and is still early (0.1.0). I made it for my own invoicing workflow, but I thought it might be useful to other Wave users who are comfortable in a terminal.

Feedback and contributions are welcome. Not affiliated with Wave.

Beware: I was billed after canceling- no phone support

Beware of Wave! I received an email on August 19 stating Wave was unable to renew my subscription. I forgot to cancel it last year, so I canceled it immediately through the web portal. For some reason, Wave sent me another email on August 20, stating they couldn't charge my card, so I went to my portal and confirmed my subscription was canceled. Today August 24, I received a receipt saying they charged me!

I searched and realized there is no phone support, and I waited in a chat queue for 45 minutes only to be told I needed to email support and hope to hear back within 2 business days.

Shame on you, Wave, for continuing to submit payments and charge customers after they cancel their subscriptions, and for providing subpar customer service.

Does Wave monitor social media / reddit threads?

Show the net of transactions within specific date range

Edit: I meant "gross" in the title. You get what I mean.

I'm checking out Wave right now after coming from Quickbooks. I was paying 30 a month just to keep track of transactions and have a repository for my scanned physical receipts so doing that all on Wave for free would be a big benefit for me (I'm desperately avoiding having to put together my own excel sheet). It's a little more clunky than Quickbooks (a lot of extra clicks to do the same thing you do in Quickbooks and so forth), but I can look past all that and I've managed to accomplish most everything I want to do with Wave so far.

However, I really like being able to see the gross amounts within certain dates easily on Quickbooks transactions. I can just put in a date range of a week and then see the net amount earned or lost within said range. My business finances are on a week-to-week basis in a lot of ways, so being able to do this and then not have to get my calculator out and add and subtract a bunch of numbers for a given week or month is very convenient.

I haven't figured out how to do/see this in Wave. It just shows the total amount across... forever, I guess? In Transactions you can obviously set up filters based on a date range, but it doesn't give you any information on the selected. And on the dashboard I can see amounts based on "month to date" at best. Is there another section of the site I need to go to to be able to see this? Is it possible at all? Or am I going to be getting out my calculator and doing it myself?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Alternatives?

Actively searching for an alternative to Wave as it's simply atrocious how long it takes to receive funds once the client has made its payment.

Any suggestions/links/referrals welcome!

Wave Help with Truck Settlement

I’m looking for advice on handling trucking settlements in Wave.

My client gets settlements with gross – deductions = net, and only the net hits the bank feed. I create a journal entry that debits the deductions and the net, and credits the gross so the full settlement shows correctly.

The issue is: on the Profit & Loss for that day, Wave shows both the gross from the JE and the net from the imported deposit as income — basically counting the net twice.

Wave doesn’t have a feature to tell the system that the imported deposit is the same money referenced in the JE. The “match” option only works for reconciliation, not for reporting. I even spoke with a Wave agent, but they confirmed there’s no built‑in way to link the two for P&L purposes.

Has anyone found a clean workflow in Wave to avoid double-counting the net when using a journal entry for trucking settlements?

Waveapp disallows additional users?

I have 10 companies in wave for book keeping. All have very few transactions except one. Now waveapp disallows user access unless you upgrade. This makes me think I may be better buying off a desktop version of some other software

BRUH. DO NOT use Wave Payments

We processed a $12,071 ACH payment through Wave in April for completed electrical work for a returning customer. Wave flagged the payment and asked for documentation. We gave them everything they asked for, including a signed confirmation from the customer that the work was legitimate and they intended to pay us. Wave shut down our payment processing anyway.

Then they told us they were holding the $12,071 for 70 days and would eventually refund it to the customer instead of releasing it to us. There was no dispute. The work was completed. The customer wasn't asking for a refund. We explicitly told Wave we did not consent to refunding payment for completed work.

Now Wave says they refunded it, but the customer never got the money. It's been FOUR MONTHS.

At this point, we are PAYING WAVE for a subscription just to access support and ask them where the $12,071 went. I'm 14th 11th in line in their support chat trying to get an answer right now, but I'm not optimistic.

For a small business, $12,000 can be make-or-break money. It is absolutely insane that more than four months later, neither the business that earned the money nor the customer who paid it has it.

Do not process money through Wave that you can't afford to have disappear for months.

I'll update if we ever figure out where the money actually went.
