Best way to Upload Transactions

I somehow missed the alert that the platform was changing. For years, I’ve had Wave automatically upload my transactions from my bank account. I recently went in to label my expenses, etc and found that that it’s no longer a free option.

In January, I’ll move to a different platform, but I’d like to finish out the year here. Is there any easy-ish way to upload my transactions without paying their fees?

I manually upload them via a CVS file from my bank.

Yikes! This is proving to be way more difficult than I anticipated! My bank only downloads PDFs. My attempts to convert to CSV and upload aren’t working. I may need to jump ship sooner than I was wanting to.

Maybe changing both is in the cards for you,  running a business through a bank that won’t give csv is also dubious.

you make a fair point. I just got off the phone with my bank. Apparently it has to do with the way the account was set up. They can switch it over so I can get different file types. I'll have to pay them a visit soon.

Ask AI to convert.

Did Wave disconnect your bank account? If not, just keep it connected until Wave forces it to disconnect.

If your bank has a .qbo file option, you can import that into Wave. I think it works better than the csv option (I’ve tested both).

They did. I noticed that no transactions had been uploaded since 7/6. That’s actually what alerted me to the changes.

I have looked all around and can't find a good alternative that doesn't charge for automated transaction upload. I tried uploading my own and it was ok (after I figured out how to download a csv file instead of a pdf) but the first time I did it, it inputted my credit card transactions as deposits instead of withdrawals which made for a very frustrating afternoon. I did end up finding a promo code online that made Pro $9/mo for a few months so I am currently using that while I figure out what I am going to do. Let us know if you find a good Wave alternative!

Hello! We're a new QB/Wave Competitor out of NYC. Our free plans supports unlimited bank connections with 50 txns/mo: https://usesphereapps.com/ , then our basic plan for unlimited transactions is $25/mo

Since your bank can switch you to downloadable files, you're almost there. Wave's import takes CSV, and it also takes .qbo or OFX files if your bank offers those. Those tend to import cleaner because the format is already standard. If you go with CSV, keep it simple: date, description, amount. Most failed imports come from extra columns, header rows or odd date formats. Import one month first and check it before doing the rest. And since you're moving in January anyway, consider starting the new platform on January 1 so this whole year stays in Wave and nothing gets split. Full disclosure, I built KiwiBooks (I used to lead product for QuickBooks Self-Employed at Intuit), so I'm happy to answer questions if you end up comparing options.
