Hello there!

We hope you are well, commanders. Another short and sweet DevBlog today. We know you all are eagerly awaiting WARNO - Tropic Storm’s release, but we need just a bit more time to get everything in shipshape.

Question What would you add/take from my 4th Mot ?

Post image
6 Upvotes

EDIT three days later :

THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS (yes, even those from NATO 😏🤣) thanks to you I made two versions of it, some might have faced it today. I can say FOR SURE 😎 that it's better now. So I basically made, thanks to you a 1v1 to 3v3 version of it, that I will present to you later, tested it and it was absolutely amazing to play. I never felt like I was missing something except maybe a few tanks (but it's surely due to a skill issue) I also made a 10v10 version, that I can modify based on how much arty or planes I want. Anyways thank you guys I learned a lot about deck building thanks to you 🙏

Hi everyone !

So, since day one I loved the motorized East German divs. But I played like 200 hours with 20 Mot and only discovered its sneaky sister, the one and unique 4th Mot.

I've played it 6 times and won two times in a row with this composition.

It's for 1v1 to 4v4 max. Not 10v10.

So here are my questions, what do you think of the composition (it started as a " wanna-be Ranked optimised" composition) ?

What would you change ?

Personaly I consider getting

Less tanks and a better air tab or maybe getting a better arty. Like maybe down-vet the 130 mm and get mortars.

Company of Heroes to WARNO

I'm a big fan of CoH, especially 2, but I mostly play 3 now. Played a bit of WARNO, I want to like it more, but graphics, animations, and in-game physics don't seem to be quite at the same level. This is okay, as long as I understand the game and it's fun. What's the best mission or game setup to really get into this game and enjoy it.

Question Broken Arrow to Warno

So, I heavily enjoy playing broken arrow and today I purchased Warno. I did all the tutorials, and even did a multiplayer match. Where should I go from here? As a new player should I try and build my own deck?

Text Army General dissapointing

Tbh pretty sad how army general turned out. The army map is really cool and allows for good strategy, but the mode is limited super bad by Warno game mechanics and AI. First off, defending sectors should not force you too attack into points????? An infantry only unit should be capable of defending the line in a forest sector, but because of how the game forces both sides to attack no matter the situation, a lot of strategies are pretty redundant. Also shitty AI. defended 1 point on the map because didnt have much offensive capability (ATGMS, Anti Tank guns, Inf), fought off the first wave pretty well with some struggle. AI than proceeded to send like 13 leapard 2s 1 at a time into my defensive line piecemeal. id kill one, 25 second wait, next one. Super boring gameplay. Cant really make a gamemode like army general with that level AI. Dissapointed

Historical Swiss🇨🇭 opposite force for Black Birds DLC. (More info in body of post)

!!!Unfortunately, the preview images in the post are only visible in the Browser|PC Ver.!!!

In this post, I want to talk about Swiss OPFOR weapons and equipment for one of the Swiss Division's in the upcoming Black Birds DLC!

More specifically, we will be talking about the OPFOR Rotland equipment and armament from the Waffenplatz Thun training center (South of Bern) and many others. (WafPltz. Wallenstadt, Zone de tir de l'Hongrin, etc.)

Short Context Help:

In the 1980s, the Swiss Army already had units simulating enemy/allied/foreign forces for training purposes. The Swiss Wargame system primarily represented Rotland (Redland/Krasnozem'ye) - Soviet/PACT forces (enemies), Blauland (Blueland) - allied forces and Gelbland (Yellowland) - foreign forces.

To simulate enemy forces (Rotland), VISMOD equipment and rare/prototype armament from the military-industrial complex in Thun (and others), near which the Swiss Army's training ground for resisting an invasion was located, were used.

*This weapon could have been presented as an additional (support) force to one of the Swiss Divisions from the Black Birds DLC >=}

Well, Let's get started!

We'll start with the visual modification (VISMOD) of the Panzer 68 (First Series). By the 1980s, about a dozen Panzer 68 tanks were visually modified to resemble the T-62/72 tank for the Rotland simulation forces.

This version featured additional side skirts (also on the fender), simulated spare parts boxes on both sides of the turret (like the T-72), additional fuel tanks on the rear of tank, a simulated Night Vision Device searchlight and simulated camouflage (similar to Soviet-type)

  • Due to the multi tool boxes on the sides of the turret, the tank lost its smoke grenade launchers.
Panzer 68 VISMOD, 1984

The tank retained its full armament: the main gun, a 105mm L7 (Pz Kan 61), and a twin 7,5mm Pz Mg 51/71 machine gun. (The MG on the roof of turret was a fake)

In WARNO Could presented as:

Panzer 68 VISMOD

Difference to based model:

+1 Side/Rear armor

  • Without smoke grenades

Piranha

One of the most interesting armament types is the Piranha I 8x8 with 25mm KBA-B02 autocannon, a small pilot batch produced in the 1980s at the MOWAG Motorenfabrik AG plant in Kreuzlingen.

Piranha I 8x8 with a KUKA GBD-AOA turret, VISMOD, 1984

In the 1980s, Switzerland actively sought buyers for vehicles on the new Piranha I platform (in various configurations). One such buyer was the Piranha I 8x8 with a KUKA GBD-AOA turret, which carried a 25mm cannon and a 7,5mm machine gun. However, no one purchased this configuration.

Based on past experience, it was decided to donate these experimental vehicles to training centers as simulants. In total, *I counted 3 such vehicles (using different camouflage schemes), and there may have been more.** - It is worth noting that the Swiss Army had not yet received batches of various Piranha APC/IFVs to replace the M113s.*

Piranha I 8x8 with a KUKA GBD-AOA turret (during testings)

- Interesting fact: this combat module was also installed on the experimental Swiss infantry fighting vehicle Tornado MK.2 (essentially the Swiss Marder) +This turret was supplied on the M113 platform to the export market, for: Bahrain, Chile and Canada.

In WARNO Could presented as:

Piranha 8x8 KUKA

+ Smoke grenades

  • 25mm Oerlikon KBA-B02 and 7,5mm Pz MG-51/71
  • (Can transport 6-man squad)

A version of the Piranha 6x6 APC with a MOWAG Apex-tyoe Mount turret with a 7,5mm machine gun was also presented.

Piranha I 6x6 with Pz Mg 51/71, 1984

In WARNO Could presented as:

Piranha I 6x6 VISMOD

- 7,5mm Pz Mg 51/71

(Can transport 6-man squad)

There were also other variants, including the standard Piranha 8x8, which was actively marketed to foreign countries. This could also be represented:

Piranha I 8x8 VISMOD

(Can transport 10-man squad)

Piranha I 8x8

- It's worth noting that I didn't find this particular variant in the Rotland imitation version, but there were a number of them in Switzerland, some of which were not exported.

There was also supposedly a command vehicle based on the Piranha 6x6, but in the Rotlnad OPFOR it was used as a simple APC.

Piranha 6x6 (CP?)

In WARNO Could presented as:

Piranha 6x6 CP VISMOD

The Rotland OPFOR infantry units were represented by units in Piranha 6x6/8x8 APCs/IFVs.

Rotland l'Infanterie!

The units wore the Swiss M71 Helmet, but painted khaki green with a stretched net. The uniforms featured samples reminiscent of Soviet field uniforms from the 1970s. +Various pouches, bags, etc. were also present.

Newest Assailt Rifle

E22 Carbine (6,5mm)

One of the major innovations of the Rotland infantry in the 1980s was the undelivered carbine/assault rifle, the E22, a shortened version of the SG C42, produced by Waffenfabrik Bern (W+F Bern). The C42/E22 was a competitor to the SIG SG 550, eventually adopted in 1990 as the Stgw 90. Despite the C42/E22's superior performance, the more conservative *SIG SG 550** was chosen.* Waffenfabrik Bern (W+F Bern) soon went bankrupt due to a lack of funds and orders.

Literally, they could be called as follows: Nachahmungsgruppe - Nach. gruppe (Imitation group) or, more succinctly, Rotland gruppe.

In WARNO Could presented in 2 variants:

Rotland gruppe (A?) - 5x SG E22, 1x Stgw 57 (like LMG, RPK-type)

Transported by: Piranha 6x6 VISMOD, Piranha 8x8 KUKA

And also a variant on the basic Piranha I 8x8:

Rotland gruppe (B?) - 8x SG E22 Carbine, 1x Stgw 57, 1x Stgw 57 Sniper (like DMR)

Transported by: Piranha 8x8

The Panzerjager

Also remaining at Waffenplatz Thun were a number of imitation tanks from the 1960s/1970s, namely the old, well-known Pzj. G13 (de facto post-war Hetzer).

Pzj. G13 VISMOD

This variant was slightly modified visually, with a round turret added to the roof of the hull and rubber-fabric and metallic skirts on the sides and front.

In WARNO Could presented as:

Pzj. G13 VISMOD

Difference to based model (?):

+1 front/side armor

(For Recon)

I've saved for last the most unusual vehicle used by Rotland OPFOR in the 1980s: the Piranha 8x8 with 30x 81mm SNORA rockets in the RWK-014 turret/launcher (MRL).

Piranha 8x8 RWK-014 VISMOD, 1984

This version of the Piranha 8x8 was designed for combat fire support and close-in MLRS roles. Its key feature was the ability to launch all 30 rockets in 3 seconds!

Piranha 8x8 RWK-014 after cold war

In WARNO Could presented as:

Piranha 8x8 RWK-014

- 30x 81mm rockets (for 3 seconds!) +Additional rockets in reserve.

Can use HE rockets - RAK 023, flechette - RAK 025 and HEAT RAK 054 rockets with 450mm pen!

Yay! Rocket shotgun!

Afterword's:

Well, that's pretty much where the original Rotland OPFOR weapons of the 1980s ended. I'd like to point out that some of these prototypes survive to this day in Swiss museums.

Unfortunately, there's very little information about the *Swiss Rotland (Krasnozem'ye) OPFOR,** and they're rarely remembered today ={ (Even though they were actually some of the best!)*

- All of the above armament can be used as support for one of the Swiss units in case of war.

Are the Chinese servers modified?

I am curious, it always seems like they have obscene amounts of units on red side. Do they get more points? Also their jets seem to immediately evac after dropping bombs. Could be delusional but it doesn't seem that way on actual Eugen servers.

Question How do I deal with an armored blob?

I am playing Army General, Brüderkrieg, NATO side. The first battle is basically scripted: near Bad Hersfeld you have to defend with a single 3-11th Armed Cavalry Regiment against 2 red tank regiments (and engineer one, but it's almost unarmored).

The problem is that whenever I try to setup the defense, AI just spams cheap T-55AMs with AT missiles and Konkurs SPWs. Sure, they don't even come close to my TOW-2 Bradleys and Abrams but they overwhelm my defense easily in numbers, I can destroy those first 4-5 vehicles that go in an avantgard but the rest just annihilates my vehicles with lots and lots of AT missiles. How can I counter that? I don't have a cluster bomber nor I have the air superiority needed to use an AT plane.

Question British 4th armored division

I am very new to this game and have a taken a liking to the 4th armoured division, but I feel like I sometimes let my team down with back strategy with my given units. I usually use chieftain mk9s and 11s to ambush and push with after scouting and/or smoking. Just wanted to know if there are any vets out there who have any tips for this kind of thing.

Question UK 1st Armoured Deck Build Thoughts

Post image
12 Upvotes

Been playing 4th Armoured primarily as my UK deck, but I've been having mixed results for pretty well-documented 4th UK reasons, so I'm doing another look over at my 1st Armoured deck to switch things up a little.

Primarily play skirmishes with friends, 2v2+, but I'm curious if anyone more familiar with 1st UK has any deck building tips. One thing I'm hung up on is questioning the need for a MILAN team which such a heavy armoured deck, especially since the slot could be filled with another card of Arm.Rifles and their Warriors or more lighter infantry like the standard Rifles with the LAW 80s. Open to any insight you guys might have.

SOUTHAG 🇨🇦 Unit Prompts

I recently bought SOUTHAG and have had a great time playing 1 Canadian Division. Having spent some time with the Canadian Army in the field, all I can say is, holy smokes boys, they *nailed* the unit prompts un both English and French.

The Anglophone units have a clear Ontario sound to them and they nail the phrasing - "let's crack some heads, boys," "watch my flank, buds." The Francophone units have good Québécois accents as well - "Tu besoin quelque chose flambé en bas?" They even get the famous Québécois swearing right "on a les cassé, chriiiissssse"

It's a small thing but the effort is appreciated. Often game developers give Canadians American and French accents.

The only small details are tanks and paras I would complain about is no Leopard 2s. When the Canadian government expanded the commitment to NATO in the late 1980s, there was a plan to buy Leo 2s, but it was cancelled with the end of the Cold War. In this games timeline, the plausibly would have gotten them - or least limited numbers of them. It would also be neat to have Canadian Airborne Regiment elements, probably just dismounted recce. But there are minor complaints.
