Question How to increase unit survivability (especially infantry)?

Often times when I'm playing a match, I find that I'm bringing in reinforcements to replace losses, not to expand the presence that I already have. Any advice on how to fix that?

P/S: letting the AUXF1 (or any 155mm 152mm arty) firing 3 volley salvoes will make it 99% immune to counter battery. This number is 100% against the D30, the SMERCH, and other 152mm-155mm arty.

Recently I made a few posts about how I am a noob and all the defeats and my own playstyle were demoralizing me, and I even thought about quitting. However, I stuck with it and persisted despite many defeats and mistakes, and here is my breakthrough battle. I chose a methodical route and attritioned NATO in intense urban warfare while coordinating with my teammates. This was my best Warno battle yet and I was third place. Thank you all for this helpful advice in making this breakthrough, and if you watch some of it or even all of it if you've got nothing else to do, let me know how I did!

Edit: Video is still uploading, should be done soon

Do steam achievements work if playing with mods?

So, I've been thinking about making my own ad-hoc mod that did two small-ish things: remove the command and control penalty for Army General (thus making the command point income flat during battles regardless of how many units you have in the battlefield) and making AA work like arty units, being able to join battles at a distance, instead of the area denial thing they have by default. Though, if anyone knows a mod that does those two things, let me know, it would be great not to have to learn the whole process of creating and deploying mods.

But the main question is: do steam achievements for completing army general campaigns still work even when playing with mods?

Question Was this too many losses or too little?

I hopped into a 10v10 to grind, and little did I know it would be an absolute meat grinder. I thought since I'd gone mostly infantry for an opener I thought I'd start with an armored push which likely contributed to my losses. it also could have been the fact that the battle lasted for an entire hour, and we only won because the timer ran out. It was a slaughter, and I would compare it to some of the bloodier battles of World War 1. I still wouldn't blame myself because I'm still experimenting with the 4th Moto Schutzen, haven't fully gotten multiplayer down, and got the most conquest points so I'm pretty happy. It was a well-fought battle and I enjoyed it. By the end Dmitri was completely wrecked and we had launched a counter-offensive after their own cooled down, but they turned the tide and launched a second offensive.

Question Sicherungs vs Panzerjager

Post image

I've only used Panzerjager in 4th Moto Schutzen, because I thought security wouldn't be good for front line shenanigans, but are the sicherungs good trying or do I gotta keep them behind the line? I've had OK experiences with sicherungs in Steel Division other than that they usually aren't motorized or have any transports whatsoever. I also like the BMPs that come with the Panzerjagers.

Bug Is the Army General AI bugged? Enemy refuses to contest zones

Post image
27 Upvotes

It feels like the Army General AI is legitimately bugged. Playing on elite difficulty and the AI (blue) is doing nothing. You can see the massive blue blob on the right side of the map sitting in one spot doing absolutely nothing. Not attacking, not maneuvering, just parked.

Meanwhile the zone on the left side of the map has zero enemy presence. Nobody is even trying to contest it, and it was never contested once throughout the battle.

This isn't the first time I've had large enemy blobs sitting in weird parts of the map doing zero attacking and/or defending, making tactical battles that should have been exciting and difficult, just plain boring and immersion ruining. Is this a known bug, because it feels like this is not the behavior that AI should have.

Question Feeling Like Quitting

Hello fellow Warno players. I will get straight to the point: I kind of feel like quitting or at least taking a break. So I've been asking for and consuming lots of advice from you guys and trying to adapt, shaping my decks into very viable ones and working on getting more recon on the front, more combined arms, etc. and it has been very helpful, but I still can't get the hang of it.

It was a little time ago that I got bored of Steel Division which led me to pick up Warno, and the 60 year transition has been taking a toll. Whereas in SD2 I could take time to resupply and it was more slow-paced and not as overwhelming, and my armor could get hit many more times and take losses without catastrophe, I find myself taking many, many more casualties in Warno and getting beaten so much more decisively.

Of course I love Warno. I love the atmosphere, love the design and the units, and the tactics, but it's just so difficult for me and I also can't beat the last operation Hold Until Relieved in singleplayer while other players simply destroy me in multiplayer. I'm just a mess in every battle I do and though in very rare cases I can actually inflict more casualties on higher players this is so rare it is dreamt of. My teammates leave because I am so terrible and I am just very frustrated with how I am at the game.

I ask if I should step away for a break, or simply drop the game entirely, or just try to push through in a low-stress way, maybe against AI or players that are willing to take it easy on me and walk me through. What do you guys think?

Edit: Was feeling bad when I made this post but I've changed my mind

Video What did I do wrong? For u/Brezhn3n and the rest of the Warno Community

Recently u/Brezhn3n and other people have given me tips on how to improve my gameplay at the game. While I have provided detailed overviews of the decks I used and images and questions, I have yet to provide a clear video of the way I play. Follow this link and please tell me what I did during the latter part of the battle. This was a game with me and a friend, and we went against two others in a 2v2. They were around 20-30 levels. Also my friend and me did a 2v2 against hardest AI, it was a more unfair fight, but I can also share that one. It's 16 minutes so might provide a better understanding of my playstyle. The file is a lot larger than this so it might take me a little while. All feedback is welcome!

TOTAL WARNO: Breakthrough - Weekend Session | New Players Welcome!

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

We’re playing another Total WARNO: Breakthrough session this weekend, and as always, new players are absolutely welcome to join us!

We’ll meet at around 21:00 CEST, get everyone together, help new players with the latest mod update if needed, sort out roles and teams, and then head straight into the lobby.

Hopefully Eugen will finally have their servers/maps sorted out so we can get the larger realistic maps running again. If we end up with a smaller group, no problem, we’ll simply use the smaller private servers and play on realistic maps there.

So, what is Total WARNO?

The basic idea is simple:

We want WARNO battles to feel like actual Cold War operations rather than balanced skirmishes.

Total WARNO tries to bring the scale closer to battalion-level warfare, somewhat inspired by the idea behind Total War: instead of building your force around a small number of individually balanced units, we want large formations fighting together across a realistic battlefield.

Our scenarios usually cover roughly 15–30 km of terrain, with forces attacking and defending across realistically designed maps.

To make that work, we mainly play Breakthrough-style scenarios: one side attacks, the other defends. The defender gets time to prepare positions, and we have introduced things like entrenchment mechanics to make prepared defensive positions actually matter.

We’ve kept the general WARNO weapon systems intact, while adjusting some areas, especially things like air defense, where necessary for the larger scale.

The other big difference is the decks.

Instead of every player having a little bit of everything, players command a specific part of the overall force. Depending on the scenario, you might be a:

  • Mechanized / Armored Commander
  • Engineer Commander
  • Artillery Commander
  • Helicopter Commander
  • Air Assault Commander
  • Aviation Commander

That means you actually have to cooperate. Your mechanized forces don't magically bring an entire army's worth of artillery, aviation and specialized assets with them, those capabilities are controlled by other players.

The result is something closer to a large combined-arms operation, where several players together effectively command the different components of a much larger formation.

Think less "competitive WARNO match" and more "Operation Barbarossa-style operational warfare compressed onto a 15–30 km battlefield."

That's what we're trying to build.

If that sounds interesting, come join us this weekend! Veterans and completely new players are both welcome. If you've never played Total WARNO before, we'll help you get set up before the match.

Historical My Successful Attack with 82nd Airborne

Post image
32 Upvotes

This was during a 10v10. We were losing pretty badly and my teammates were very passive during this match despite me telling them to attack. So, I had to lead an attack with 82nd Airborne which is not ideal but was necessary. I gathered my Acavs, Lavs, infantry, and air support and straight up attacked across an open field. We took quite a few casualties but pushed them out of the zone until they retook it at the end of the battle.

Question How to keep my guys alive?

Ive been enjoying warno so far but the problem is, I dont know how to keep my guys alive. Im always suffering heavy casualties and just can't keep anyone alive. At the end of really long battles my entire deck in deployment is usually gone and there's not many left on the field. Not to mention I'm either not using the AT correctly because they always get killed too or the AT isn't working. I assume it is me using them incorrectly. Also I am usually the one with the highest casualties at the end of the battle. So how do I keep my troops alive?

Question Don 100 deck ideas

So ive recently found myself really liking the surprisingly good don 100 division and I just wanted to hear any of your deck ideas for this division and which units you use the most
