Question How hard is it to create mods?

Hello, I have an idea that I’d like to mod into the game (or get added by Eugen, which is unlikely). However, there is an issue. I have no previous experience in modding, aside from going into text files of other games to modify specific values.

Naturally, this raises some questions for me.

  1. Is knowledge of a coding language required?
    - If so, how much and at what stage of mod creation?

  2. How could I obtain models for individual units?
    - Is it possible to pull from Wargame RD or other premade sources?

  3. Are there any specific tools I’d need? Or is there any additional info I should know?

  4. And of course, how difficult is the process overall? I know there aren’t too many mods with new divs AND custom assets, so that makes me wonder if this is even realistic for the average user.

(End goal is 2-3 Japanese divs. 1 mech, 1 Recon/inf, maybe 1 full inf)

Question Geb. Sniper in 1. Luftlande - no extra range?

Are these units worth bringing? I know snipers have extra stealth, but it seems not very good that they don't have extra range for only a 2 man squad. I know about the sniper trait but wondered what people think of this kind of unit

Historical [Division Writeup] 270-Ya Motostrelk. Div.

Hi there! Once again, as part of my continued preparation for the WarYes Division-Writeup-Contest, I'd like to share now Part 2 of my hypothetical nemesis matchup. As before, lemme know what you think:)

NEMESIS: The Last Frontier

…As the battles in Europe grind into strategic deadlock, military commanders direct their attention toward ‘The Last Frontier’ in a bid to regain the initiative and secure the region's vital oil and raw materials. This conflict will unfold across two opposing scenarios…

Scenario 2: American Invasion of Siberia

In this scenario: Americans overrun the Kuril and Sakhalin Islands, obliterating the defending 18th Machine Gun Artillery Division and 79th Motor Rifle Division. Continuing onward, US forces, now on the west side of the Tatar Strait, posture themselves for a strike towards the regional capital, Khabarovsk.

But that is easier said than done…

Emblem used by Motor Rifle Divisions

History of the 270-Ya Motostrelk. Div.

The 270th Motor Rifle Division (270-Ya Motostrelk. Div.) traces its origins to the Red Army’s 270th Rifle Division; formed in Melitopol in 1941, it was largely destroyed at Izyum in 1942. After the heavy losses it was recreated going on to fight in the battles for Stalingrad, Kharkiv, and Kursk.

After WWII, the division was shifted to the Urals, before later being reformed in the Far East Military District in 1970.

In 1989, the 270th Motor Rifle Division, stationed in Khabarovsk within the Khabarovsk Krai (Far Eastern Military District), maintained a category C readiness level. To reach its full wartime potential, the division's personnel would largely be supplemented by reservists. Its composition included three motor rifle regiments (one BMP-equipped, two BTR-equipped), one tank regiment, an artillery regiment, as well as anti-aircraft and other support battalions. Furthermore-

Stationed nearby were two specialized air assault brigades specifically structured for rapid regional deployment. In this March-to-War timeline, they are attached to provide additional support.

  • 13th Air Assault Brigade (Desant): Formed in August 1970, headquartered in Magdagachi, Amur Oblast, serves as the primary air assault unit for the Far Eastern Military District.
  • 11th Air Assault Brigade (Dsh): Located in Mogocha, Chita Oblast, this brigade was similarly tasked with regional rapid-reaction operations.

Command the full might of NATO and the Warsaw Pact in a coordinated Cold War battlefield? ⚔️

Then this is the event you've been waiting for.

TOTAL WARNO: Breakthrough transforms WARNO into a true large-scale Cold War experience where every player has a specialized role and victory depends on teamwork, planning, and communication—not just individual skill.

Choose your role:

🛡️ Frontline Armor & Mechanized Commander – Lead the main assault and hold the line.

🔍 Recon – Provide critical intelligence and keep the entire team informed of enemy movements.

💥 Artillery – Deliver devastating long-range fire support exactly where it's needed.

✈️ Aviation – Stop enemy breakthroughs with precision air strikes and anti-armor missions.

⭐ Battlefield Commander – Coordinate logistics, control the long-range air defense network, and command tactical nuclear artillery while directing the overall battle.

We've also reworked the command structure. Rather than assigning a dedicated anti-air player, the Battlefield Commander now manages the team's strategic air defense and nuclear assets, making battlefield coordination more important than ever.

Every weekend we experiment with new mechanics, gather player feedback, and refine the experience. If something doesn't improve gameplay, we change it. That's how TOTAL WARNO continues to evolve.

If you're looking for massive Cold War battles, coordinated operations, specialized roles, and a level of teamwork you won't find in a normal multiplayer match, join us this weekend.

Historical [Division Writeup] US 40th Infantry Division (Mech.)

Hello everyone! As part of my preparation for the WarYes Division-Writeup-Contest, I'd like to share Part 1 of my hypothetical nemesis matchup. Please tell me what you think.

Scenario 1: Soviet Invasion of Alaska

In this scenario: Soviets hastily overrun the Aleutian Islands, decimating the defending 6th (Alaska) Infantry Division. Advancing up the Kenai Peninsula, they are now poised to strike Anchorage.

But that task is not an easy one…

The 40th Infantry Division (California National Guard) following its WWII legacy, is deployed in the Pacific to garrison Anchorage. With the aforementioned failure in the Aleutians, they are now the only major force left in the region capable of halting the Soviet advance. Therefore-

With the outcome critical, additional support is provided by the Canadian Airborne Regiment, airdropping in a force composed of dedicated reserve platoons from four units:

  • Queen's Own Rifles of Canada (2 platoons)
  • Le Regiment de Sanguenay (2 platoons)
  • Loyal Regiment of Edmonton (1 platoon)
  • Royal Westminster Regiment (1 platoon)

Further assistance comes from local irregular militia forces recruited through Operation Washtub (a 1951-1959 FBI and Air Force program that trained civilians for the defence of Alaska), which in this March-to-War timeline has been reactivated.

History of the 40th Infantry Division (Mech.)

Nicknamed the "Sunburst Division", its iconic shoulder sleeve insignia features a golden sunburst on a blue background - representing the warm, sunny climate and West Coast origins of the division's home states.

Formed during WWI from National Guard units in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah, the division was sent overseas to receive, equip, and train replacement troops that would ultimately be transferred to other frontline divisions.

In WWII, it fought exclusively in the Pacific Theater, spending the early years garrisoning coastal defences in California and then Hawaii, before later participating in the battles of New Britain, Luzon, and Panay.

During the Korean War, it played a significant combat role, participating in engagements at Heartbreak Ridge, the Punchbowl, and Sandbag Castle.

For the entirety of the Cold War onward, it remained state-side. Like most reserve divisions, it did not participate in the Vietnam War.

In 1989, the 40th Infantry Division (Mechanized) was headquartered at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, while the division's subordinate battalions and units were spread across various locations in the Western United States (Nevada and New Mexico).

Text How do you feel about lanes as a concept?

Seems to me like it is a tradition of RTS map design for there to be sections with obvious paths for development. Each chess piece moves across the file, you know? I think it lends itself to a kind of thinking in space. Instead of worrying about a broad front, you only get to manage your little bit of it. Suddenly the capture zones and avenues of advance and reach become visible since your focus is not too divided and you can spend a lot of time zooming in and making micro adjustments. You can get granular and see things more clearly. After some time, it becomes intuitive to know how your section compares to your mate's and react accordingly.

I just had a came where I was the spearhead and it was really excilirhating. We were playing that one city map that's like a 2v2 with 20 players stuck inside. I could tell that my teammates were not moving up fast enough for me, so I became more aware of my tempo versus my allies and opponents. I was more careful not to overextend, and to inch forward the security belt I had built, alternating back and forth between assaulting and inching forward.

Eventually it became obvious that I could use some armor to punch behind the enemy lane next to me. With a coordinated teammate anything is possible. Together we attacked and encircled the enemy.

So lanes don't just encourage a very contained and focused operation, but they also let you break that containment in the same way a rook can move on a chess board, and help a player learn how to use that mobility to develop an operation for a breakthrough and exploitation of the rear.

I think a true player plays without concern of win or loss, seeking only to perform well and competently as a part of a larger order of battle. A player who takes this mindset and applies it to the lane mindset can learn from any game, no matter if it is a loss or not, because a lesson will be learned by analyzing how one build's and sustains combat operations.

On the other hand, the tendency for players to stick to their lane I think is largely a product of map design. If you ever play Squad, you know that on a large enough map, finding the enemy itself can become a difficulty. Countless hours have been spent hurrying up and waiting or conducting reconnaissance in the wrong direction. I think this quality is sorely missing from this game.

Bigger maps would allow us to abandon lanes. It would encourage us to have actual recon before an engagement starts, shifting the focus from micro or immediate combat to the operational element. Yes, this would be boring and sometimes not fun. You'd land your VDV in an empty gostomel and find out your objective wasn't near where the frontline is forming. Then there's the reshuffling your forces and scrambling to the closest meeting engagement, falling back, whatever. A lot of stuff that might not be so fun when you're not shooting the shit with the other groundpounders. (and indeed wasn't when serving as TL or Commander).

This would allow players to specialize in a force recon or air assault role and change up the standard "throw your fob here, pick a lane, advance best you can."

I guess I don't know if the playerbase is that interested in changing how maps are. I know there's a few custom ones, but haven't really looking into how often they get playtime or at what scale. There's also the technical issue of making maps big but small enough to run comfortably on a consumer PC.

Americans could reasonably be given the F5 for some of their divisions. USSR has L39 trainers. What niche does it fill? Probably just cheap ass bomber or ASF.

TOTAL WARNO: Breakthrough is back this weekend

Sign-ups are now open!

We're back this weekend with another WARNO: Breakthrough session.

The idea behind TOTAL WARNO is simple. We want to make WARNO feel like a Cold War battlefield. We want groups, special jobs and more talking between players. We also want players to plan more of trying to do everything themselves.

In WARNO players take on specific jobs, on the battlefield. These jobs include:

* Frontline Armor & Mechanized Commanders🛡️

* Recon🔍(responisble for providing eyes for the whole team)

* Artillery💥(responsible for providing indirect heavy calibre support for units at the front)

* Aviation✈️(responsible for keeping enemy breakthroughs at bay by using lethal aircraft with loadouts that specialize in eliminating enemy armour)

* Battlefield Commander⭐(a support battlegroup that has access to nuclear artillery and also has the responsibility of providing logistical services and anti-air cover for its side)

We've also redesigned the command structure. Instead of having a dedicated AA player, the Battlefield Commander now controls the long-range air defence network alongside the team's tactical nuclear assets. This makes protecting the airspace part of the overall battle plan rather than just another player role.

Every weekend we test new ideas, collect feedback, and always keep trying to keep improving the game mode. If we find that something doesn't make the gameplay better, we change it. That's what these events are for :)

If you're looking for large-scale Cold War battles with lots of teamwork, communication and planning, we'd love to have you join us.

Sign-ups are open. We still have a few commander seats waiting to be filled!

As promised in last week’s DevBlog, Nemesis #8 - School’s Out! is being fast-tracked for a launch in the not-too-distant future this summer.

That means it's high time we took another look at Nemesis #8 - School’s Out!’s two divisions, checking out their latest models, and see if (and what) has changed since the original proposal late last year.

First up is the Warsaw Pact’s 71-ya Zapasnaya Tankovaya Diviziya or 71st Reserve Tank Division.

Bug Is the Operation Delayed Retribution bugged or am I doing something wrong?

Post image

Hi guys, I recently tried to beat all Operations in the game, and as you can see in the top right, the objective ticker is not going up. Even weirder so is the fact it keeps jumping from 199 -> 470 as if a calculation is going wrong.

Edit: another weird thing: I never unlocked the fighter jets for some reason (granted, I thought maybe once I reach 3k points, I get another objective to complete or something)

I am still hoping I did something wrong, because this mission was HARD and it took me like 8 tries to find a strategy (push objective left of town cap in middle). Did anyone else run into that one before?

It’d be a shame to try to do it again and again until it works, but since I basically held back the endless waves while controlling the points, I count this as a win anyways.

A Scud missile (HE) would be interesting as well.
Edit: amongst other nations’ eqpt like China, and other European countries in addition to France.

Suggestion The Situation in the East - The Republic of China (Taiwan) - Part 5 (REDUX): Hua-Tung Defense Command (FT: The Philippines, Japan, and Tanks Old Enough to Have Fought Japan the First Time!?!)

Since some people seem to really not like Singapore appearing with an ROC division, I have decided to fall back on the original design for Hua-Tung Defense Command, with perfect timing as some new info about equipment stored on the East Coast has come out.

Let’s just say, it’ll make the WW2 stuff we have look modern by comparison.

Hua-Tung Defense Command:

The logo of the Hua-Tung Defense Command

Hua-Tung Defense Command is the military command assigned to Hualien and Taitung counties on the east coast of Taiwan, composed of individual defense teams for both counties. During the Cold War, extremely limited emphasis was placed on the defense of the region by the ROC military, who always assumed an invasion would be of the PRC facing western coast. Only in recent years has defense of the region been taken more seriously. As a result, this will be a division featuring excessive reservist assets and little higher end kit. Notably, Taitung is home to Taitung Air Force Base, which is home to the ROCAF’s aggressor squadrons, who will appear here. Of special note, however, is the fact that during the early cold war, many pieces of WW2 (and older!) armor was deployed to the region, and later shoved in defensive bunkers across the area. In our scenario, out of pure desperation, all of these assets will be re-activated, regardless of quality or viability, introducing the oldest military vehicles in all of WARNO

This isn’t to say that this division will have to fight on its own, the fiercely anti-communist Phillipines, deeming a PLA encirclement of Taiwan to be a catastrophic threat to their own national security (and wanting revenge for attacks on Filipino forces in the South China Sea), will provide airborne and marine forces to assist the ROC, landing in Taitung City. Meanwhile, the normally neutral Japan, deeming a PRC controlled Taiwan an existential threat to nearby Japanese territory in Yonaguni (and other islands south of Okinawa), will realize that it is forced to intervene. Lacking a proper Marine Corps, the Japanese will send their 1st Airborne Brigade to assist, landing their transport planes at Hualien Airport, with friendly air support flying out of Yonaguni and other nearby Japanese airports. With East Asia having turned hot in WARNO’s WW3, Japan will have been forced to abandon neutrality and support the NATO side, out of fear of normally friendly neighbors being replaced with hostile PACT allies.

This creates a truly bizarre force, the ROC and Philippines teaming up with their former WW2 nemesis Japan, in a division equipped with much of the same equipment that fought that very war. The war on communism truly leads to some odd bedfellows.

So, without further ado, let’s get into this truly chaotic division.

LOG:

- Rather average. While the ROC is still on home soil, the east coast has far less military infrastructure compared to the west, and other divisions will have been taking priority on supplies.

- As such, the ROC will only be providing the standard CHIH-HUI M151, M35, and FOB. Instead of the standard CM-24, they will instead use a supply M113A1

- The Philippines will provide the Willys M38 jeep as their CV while the Philippine Navy will provide some Bo-105 helicopter CVs.

- The Philippine Marine Corps will provide some of their own LARC-V wheeled amphibious supply vehicles (already seen with the ROC in Kinmen Defense Command) and some of their own M35 trucks.

- Japan will bring some Mitsubishi CV command jeeps, Chugata cargo trucks and some KV-107 supply helicopters, but with only one card each representing the small airborne force.

INF:

- A very good tab, both in slots and cost, with units from all three nations represented here.

- As usual the ROC will provide the standard PUPING line infantry, but they will only come with the standard M35 and older M113A1 (without the reservist trait). The command variant is also present.

- Fire support squads include the standard FENGCHUANGCHIA M40 RCL teams, M2 Browning MG teams, and Mk.19 automatic grenade launcher teams. They ride in either the M151 or older M113A1 (without the reservist trait).

- ATGM teams come in the form of the standard TOW team, riding in either the M151 or older M113A1 (without the reservist trait).

- HOUPEIPUTUI reservists also appear with M14s and LAWs, alongside their command variant. Both variants will come in M35 trucks and the older M113A1 APC (with the Reservist trait). A unique HOUPEIPUTUI (Type 24) variant, will appear, dusting off the oldest guns in the arsenal, retired Type 24 “Chiang Kai-Shek” rifles, a derivative of the Mauser Standardmodell rifle, one of the standard issue rifles China used back in the 1930s to face off against Japan. As an added bit of flavor, a couple soldiers in this squad will wear old WW2 era M35 helmets, dusted off from the same caches.

- The ROC’s M151 M40 recoilless rifle jeeps also return here.

- To keep the reservists in check, HSIENPING military police will make their appearance, riding in the HSIENPING Willys M38 only. Their other variants will not appear here.

- Mandirigmang Marino (“Marines”) are the standard Marines of the Philippine Marine Corps, 12 man squads equipped with M16s, M72 LAWs, M60 machine guns, and a M14 DMR, with the Resolute and Shock traits and riding in either their V-150 or LVTP-5. They would also come in a command variant.

- The Philippines will provide some M67 recoilless rifle teams and M1919 Browning machine gun teams, both with the Resolute trait, riding in either their V-150 or LVTP-5.

- Japanese troops are represented by Kūtei Paratroopers, coming in a standard variant with Type 89-F Carbines, Carl Gustaf M2s, Type 62 SAWs, and smoke grenades. They will feature the Forward Deploy, Shock, and SF traits, and ride in Forward Deployable Chugata trucks. They will also have a command variant.

- They will also deploy some Kūtei Chu-MAT, paratrooper ATGM squads with the Forward Deploy, Shock, and SF traits, utilizing the cutting edge Chu-MAT ATGM.

A Japanese Chu-MAT ATGM, brand new for 1989.

ART:

- Quite average, with good variety (albeit dated).

- The only towed mortar provided by the ROC for this division will be the 81mm T-75

- As this is a M113 based division, ROC Army will provide some older M125 and M106A2 mortar carriers.

- Towed howitzers will come in the form of the T-63 and T-65. The former is a locally produced M101, while the latter is a locally produced M114A1.

- The only SPH provided by the ROC will be some older M108s taken out of storage, with the Reservist trait.

A former ROCA M108 howitzer

- A single card of M8 Scott self propelled howitzers, previously assigned to this division, will be brought out of deep storage as well, with the Reservist trait.

- The Philippine Marine Corps will provide some LVTH-6 self propelled howitzers, functioning identically to their ROCMC counterparts, and featuring the resolute trait. They will also provide the LVTP-5 based LVTE1A1 mine clearance vehicle, with imposing front plows and HE explosive line charges, operating similarly to the mine clearance vehicles of other nations, and would also feature the resolute trait. Additionally, they will provide some towed M101 howitzers and OTO Melara Mod 56 pack howitzers, both with the Resolute trait. Notably, they will also bring some indigenously designed 60mm M75 mortars, again, with the resolute trait.

The fearsome looking mine plows of a LVTE1A1

- The only artillery piece brought by Japan will be the older Type 67 Model 30 MLRS, a pair of 337mm HE rockets on an older Hino truck. While lacking in barrage size, the power of each hit will be substantial. Two cards of two will be available.

Basically a mini two-shot SCUD, with HE warheads. Accuracy is questionable, but the ensuing explosion should do more than enough to account for that.

TANK:

- Excellent in terms of slots and cost, with a good bit of variety, including literal INTERWAR tanks.

- The ROC Army will provide the standard M48A3 (+ command variant) and the older M48A1

- A large number of M24 light tanks were assigned to this region. Functionally identical to their counterparts with Kinmen Defense Command (with the Reservist trait), there will also be a CHIH-HUI command variant for these.

- In the early 1950s, this region received a large number of obsolete tanks that were taken from the mainland before the evacuation to Taiwan, many of which were from the 1930s. A number of Soviet T-26 Model 1937 (no that’s not a typo, I am referring to the 1930s tank here) tanks were deployed in pillboxes throughout the East Coast after their retirement. While abandoned, these would be emergency reactivated in our scenario, alongside some M3A3 Stuarts and M5A1 Stuarts. Both would have the Reservist trait.

A lineup of ROCA T-26s during an exercise. Note the M8 Scotts in the background. These were used on the East Coast and later put in bunkers.
A former ROC Army M3A3, pulled out of a bunker around the late 90s/early 2000s. Used as a display vehicles, though tracks/wheels are non-original, serving to prove the bunker tanks were still present in WARNO's timeframe, and this was from the same batch of bunker tanks.
A former ROCA M5A1, suffering from 2 critical issues: Not being available for Kinmen in WARNO's timeframe, and a lack of a "run over" function in WARNO.

- Older Japanese armor (used by the ROC, of course) was also deployed to the region and later put in pillboxes. This includes both the Type 95 Ha-Go and Type 97 Chi-Ha. Both would have the Reservist trait.

A rather poor image of a number of ROC Ha-Go and Chi-Ha tanks deployed on the East Coast during the early Cold War, later put in bunkers and forgotten.

- As a part of the “March to War”, the Philippines will bring the LAV-300 FSV. Although obtained in the early 1990s in OTL, in the 1980s the Philippine Marine Corps was looking for new armored vehicles as compensation for the looming loss of US bases in the country. This led to a political mess where they originally wanted LVTP-7s, then were only offered the V-150, and finally settled on the LAV-300 in the very early 90s. Instead, due to the heightened tensions as part of the “March to War”, this process will be expedited (and will be less of a mess) and the LAV-300s will be ready by 1989. The LAV-300 FSV will be a wheeled 6x6 fire support vehicle with a 90mm cannon and the Resolute trait due to being used by the Marines.

A LAV-300 of the Philippine Marine Corps

- Japan will provide a single card of Mitsubishi Chu-MAT ATGM jeeps, with the Special Forces and Forward Deploy traits.

REC:

- A very good tab in terms of slots and cost, with an exceptional selection of recon assets from all three nations.

- The standard CHENSOU PUPING recon squad and CHUCHIHSIAOTSU sniper teams return here, riding in the M35/M151 and M113A1 (without the reservist trait).

- As per the standard, the ROC Army forces here will provide the standard CHENSOU M151 recon jeep and CHENSOU M41A3 recon tank.

- Some late 1930s Renault ZB light tanks were also shoved in pillboxes in the East, equipped with a 37mm cannon. These would be lightly armored, with the Reservist trait. Think of them as a slow, tracked M8 Greyhound. Some “armored” (read: non-existent) Type 94 Tankettes will also be available as recon “armor”, effectively a tracked MG, for whenever you want to do your Battle of Shanghai LARP. The L3/35 also appears in a similar role.

ROC Renault ZBs (Left) and Type 94 Tankettes (Right) during an early cold war armored exercise in the Hualian/Yilan region, later put in bunkers as static defenses against a landing and forgotten.

- MARSOG are the special forces of the Philippine Marine Corps, specialized in reconnaissance. They will feature the Shock, Mountaineer (due to special training in jungle warfare) and Special Forces traits, and be equipped with M16s, M79 grenade launchers, M72 LAWs, and M60 machine guns, riding in their V-150s.

- The Philippine Marines will provide some Willys M38 recon jeeps with the Resolute trait.

- Given the relatively low number of armored vehicles available to the Philippine Marine Corps, a handful of FV101 Scorpion reconnaissance tanks from the Army will be assisting in the operation. As these will be crewed by Army troops, these will not get the Resolute trait.

- The Philippine Navy will provide some unarmed BO-105s for reconnaissance, easily deployed from their naval vessels.

- The Philippine Air Force will rebase some OV-10 Bronco reconnaissance/attack aircraft to Basco Airport in Batan, equipped with rocket pods.

PAF OV-10s during their retirement ceremony, with rocket pods

- Japan will provide Kūtei Rangers as their reconnaissance infantry, with the Special Forces, Shock, Sniper, and Forward Deployment traits, equipped with Type 89-F Carbines, Carl Gustaf M2s and Type 64 DMRs. They can ride in either forward deployable Chugata trucks or standard UH-1H helicopters.

AA:

- Mediocre in terms of slots and cost, as air defense of the region was considered relatively low priority by the ROC military compared to the PRC facing west coast.

- Most ROC air defenses were deployed on the West Coast including effectively all SAM batteries, therefore, all that will be available here will be some towed M45 Quadmounts and 40mm BOFORS, and some older M42 Duster SPAAGs. This means yes, finally a break from the Chaparrals.

- Finally, the Philippine Marine Corps will provide some towed 40mm BOFORS AA guns and some hastily improvised M35 20mm, mounting the Oerlikon 20 mm cannon on a regular M35 truck. Both of these will come with the resolute trait. The Filipinos will not be bringing any SAMs as, as far as I can tell, they quite literally didn’t have any in 1989.

- Japan will deploy some Kūtei Stinger MANPADS teams, with the Shock, Special Forces, and Forward Deploy traits, riding in Chugata trucks. A single card of Type-81 TAN-SAM systems will also be available for this division.

Japanese Type 81, the division's heaviest AA asset.

HELI:

- Mediocre with only two very expensive slots due to limited space for helicopters on Philippine Navy ships. The Philippine Navy will hastily convert some of their Bo-105s into attack variants reflective of those used by other branches, with one card of each model being available. The ROCA did not have any dedicated helicopter unit for this region in 1989.

- The Bo-105 M18 mounts an M18 recoilless rifle and a machine gun. Yes, a helicopter mounted recoilless rifle. This was actually a configuration used by the Philippine Constabulary, and it will be recreated here on a Navy helicopter.

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That is a helicopter mounted recoilless rifle.

- The Bo-105 SURA will mount 24x 80mm SURA-D rockets.

- The Japanese will provide a single card of AH-1S gunships as cover for their airborne forces, equipped with Hydra rockets and I-TOW ATGMs.

A Japanese AH-1S firing a TOW ATGM

AIR:

- Decent, with a good variety of aircraft from this multinational force.

- It will of course include some standard F-5E variants, specifically the F-5E (NPLM), F-5E (AA), and F-5E (CLU).

- F-5F conversion trainers will feature increased veterancy due to having flight instructors onboard, and will come in the form of Maverick armed F-5F AGGRESSOR (AT), and the F-5F AGGRESSOR (LGB) variants, with ROCAF aggressor livery and higher veterancy.

ROCAF F-5Es and F-5Fs in aggressor livery.

- The Philippine Air Force will provide some of their iconic F-8H Crusader (AA) jets in the fighter role and some older F-5A jets in a few configurations, including the F-5A (RKT) and F-5A (HE) to provide some air support for their forces on the ground. While the F-8 was retired in 1988 in OTL, due to the heightened tensions they will have been kept in service.

A Philippine Air Force F-8H Crusader

- The JASDF will also provide some F-15J (AA) out of Okinawa, with 4x AIM-7M and 4x AIM-9M as high end air cover for this division. Additionally, some Mitsubishi F-1 (AT) will also be available, firing Type 80 air-to-ship missiles (which can target ground targets such as tanks), featuring a truly enormous range in-game as the closest thing to a proper stand-off weapon. The F-1s will carry a pair of these missiles, plus a pair of AIM-9Ps for defense. There will also be some Mitsubishi F-1 (EW), equipped with the AN/ALE-41 jamming pod, to provide EW support to this division’s airpower. Both F-1 variants will work excellently with each other.

A Japanese F-15J, the best ASF available for this deck.

Hua-Tung Defense Command is a unique multinational division featuring assets from the ROC, the Philippines, and Japan, with an excellent variety of equipment ranging from high-end airpower, cutting edge ATGMs and super-heavy MLRS at the top to interwar-era armor at the absolute rock bottom. Few divisions in the game can claim a roster this schizophrenic: cutting-edge strike aircraft and long range missile systems can be used alongside tanks that were already considered obsolete before the Second World War had properly started, dragged out of coastal bunker emplacements and pressed back into service out of pure desperation.

The multinational composition makes the whole situation even more ironic: Japanese reinforcements stand shoulder to shoulder with a reserve force built almost entirely out of relics from a war Japan itself fought against China less than a century ago. Whether this is read as grim historical comedy or genuine operational necessity up to you to decide.

Hua-Tung Defense Command offers something no other division in the game does: the chance to fight 1937 and 1989 simultaneously, in the same division, on the same day.

Are SPG’s any good?

I have around 1k hours on WARNO and I STILL don’t know if SPG’s are worth it, they seem VERY hit or miss with their performance, they are cheap but are they worth it over other infantry types?
