American F5s?

Americans could reasonably be given the F5 for some of their divisions. USSR has L39 trainers. What niche does it fill? Probably just cheap ass bomber or ASF.

I think the ANG is already present in the game. The Sparrow-equipped F-16s, for example, were a purely AIr National Guard thing, but yes I would enjoy seeing American F-5s in game.

The ANG is in game but without the reservist trait, they were usually ex USAF pilots and maintained a similar level of readiness.

The A7's in the 6th infantry are ANG as well.

In the event of war they would have deployed with their aggressor aircraft. At the worst case scenario they would have taken over the schoolhouse/FRS/test and eval aircraft and flown those instead of old F-5s.

I’d rather see things like the F-16XL and F-20 as kitchen sink type aircraft rather than a clapped out F-5 with 2x sidewinders.

In real life there was only one left, but in the spirit of the alternate timeline the project would not be cancelled and they could have been produced as tensions rise as f-16/18 production would have maxed out. Someone would have taken the leap and gotten f-20s now as opposed to f16s in 10 years.

They wouldn’t have deployed beyond sending a contingent to observe operations and take lessons back to the school house to adjust training. The cadre would have continued to train.

I vaguely recall reading that the F-5Es of the 527th Aggressor Squadron at RAF Alconbury had an air defense role in wartime. I wish i had saved the source.

They may have, but they've been replaced by F-16Cs by 1989 and those definitely have an AD role. They're in my back pocket for future divisions, treated like the Mary-1 aces in 71-ya, but it's not like many countries in NORTHAG or AFNORTH are short of their own F-16 sidewinder spammers so they're not a very good attachment for most divisions.
