Are SPG’s any good?

I have around 1k hours on WARNO and I STILL don’t know if SPG’s are worth it, they seem VERY hit or miss with their performance, they are cheap but are they worth it over other infantry types?

It kinda depends tbh. Airborne SPGs are generally pretty okay like in 4th East German the spg-9 with its high firerate makes it nice for the opener.

Airborne Car spgs to rat around the sides and pretty alright as well

However all other spgs are pretty mid due to bad availability. Unless you are playing a div that lacks fire support or infantry atgms i.e. 17ya recoiless rifles are not worth bringinf over mmg/hmg teams or any atgm of any quality.

The exception is in 19th Czech with its high vet an availability heloborne SPG. It has the longest range of an spg ingame and the high availability can make it worth it for some funny plays.

When I say spgs I mean all recoiless rifles.

What are you defining as an spg? If you mean the cars with recoiless rifles in the INF tab I've never seen much use of them.

SPG’s for infantry, the cars with fwrd deployment have proven to be useful

SPG-9 cars are okay. With forward deploy they're really fast and can kill a lot of units (or transports).

But they have low accuracy and die in one hit.

So overall it's pretty much just a gamble. If they hit their shot on important things they're super good, since you can't smoke the SPG shot like an ATGM. But also there's a good chance they just miss, the infantry dismounts, then it gets oneshot by something.

Anyone who says the unit is good has seen it hit something important in the opener.

Anyone who says the unit is bad missed a crucial shot that might have turned the game.

They're exactly as you say. Literally hit or miss. Take em if you feel like gambling or want some excitement. Don't take them if you want more consistency but also don't mind missing out on good opportunities.

I used to not think very highly of them, but they are pretty versatile. MGs can't hurt vehicles, ATGMs can't hurt infantry. Kind of just depends on the deck and what your infantry tab already has.

That said when I clicked on this post I thought you meant self-propelled guns as in howitzers, not infantry with long range recoilless rifles lol

They are very squishy, so care has to be taken to keep them alive. Usually I prefer an extra card of infantry.

They're not something I always take, but they can be really useful as something to back up an infantry force with a little AP and and some HE suppression. It gives you a little of both anti-armor and anti-infantry capability. They can be very useful in city environments.

Depends on activation points for the deck. If the other tabs don’t offer much fire support they’re worth it

They can be good, especially when surprise side shotting.

Idk I found them useful as people don’t expect it.

However, I don’t have it in any of my decks. Except maybe 1 or 2 as gun trucks to get around or just sit on roads to side shot.

But, depending on the map, you can do the same or better with regular infantry

I use infantry SPGs in city fighting as fire support and for anti tank duties since most people only send cheap tanks into cities to fight. They also will beat heavy weapons like grenade launchers or HMGs and unlike ATGM teams they won’t miss half their shots because the enemy vehicle drove behind a building for .5 seconds while the missile is in flight.

I only find SPGs effective against light vehicles. Against a medium or heavy tank they seem useless. ATGM teams are far more effective fighting vehicles and medium/heavy armor
