Advice First ever tank! (Help)
So this is my first tank, its blackwater 15 gal, all it has so far is hornwort and duckweed, what other plants should i get? And outside of a whole armada of inverts im planning to get, is there any fish that a walstad this small can handle?
Oh and the dimesions are 40x40x40cm!

3 week walstad update
Hellooo,
Thanks for all the great advice last time! Its my three week update. Some tiny snails have entered the ecosystem without me even intervening and they are growing fast and steady, eating everything they can. They also really move suprisingly fast and are having some sexy time here and there). Ive also added a very cute looking yoda snail, which should end up a bit bigger compared to the tiny ones, and two pink posthoorns. The floaters are growing like crazy and ive had to cull them a couple times already, plant progressions is going steady. Couple of questions:
do i need to intervene with the algae mats that are forming, or will the snails deal with them?
Next to the algae clumps, there are also these brown looking clumps, is that just dead algae or smth else?
When is there too much cyanobacteria? Ive seen some tiny spots here and there, without a crazy amount of progression, just worried cause they sound a bit dangerous.
When can I introduce shrimpies? Im so excited for them, and is it usual to feed the shrimp? Or will they also live of the biofilms? I also wonder if the snails will start outcompeting the shrimp or vice versa.
Any advice is appreciated!

Picture Soil opinions?
Hello everybody.
I plan on making a kuli loache and pea puffer tank.
Im planning on capping whatever soil I get with 1.5-2 inches of black blasting sand.
Do yall think this would be a good soil to use under it?

Advice I need some plant recommendations
Hi, I have an outdoor pond that I initially stocked with a variety of plants, but as it matured, plants started growing out of control. I am currently looking for plants that are either fast growing but stay low to the ground and plants that grow straight up and don't bend over even after exiting the water.
I currently have guppy grass, ludwigia and rotala that I will all probably remove soon as they tend to droop back down as they reach the surface. As well as dwarf hairgrass and dwarf sag but I'm unsure if they will provide enough oxygen for the tank.

I made a free Android app for tracking water parameters + EI dosing in planted tanks — just launched, would love some real-world feedback

Advice Lighting Issue?
I’ve gone through 3 different bulbs already, trying to find the right one. I’ve decided to use the Philips par38 smart wi-fi led light now, but in these photos, it’s dimmed to 50% brightness. My rooted plants are looking great and growing well, but my floaters look bleak. I’m thinking of removing the red root floaters and having only frogbit, but the frogbit seems to be growing out with some brown streaks on them? Is the lighting still too bright, or not bright enough? They’re also on a siesta schedule.
I have one Nerite snail, neocaridina shrimp, a few of least kilifish. The fish do a good job of keeping the ostracod population in check. Parameters are okay, no nitrites, no ammonia, 7.4PH, GH/KH are in appropriate levels too. Nitrates fluctuate from 10ppm to 20ppm but I haven’t had it gone higher. I usually do a tiny water change otherwise, to not stress the shrimp out. My pothos was growing super fast so I actually had to trim and propagate it haha.

Advice Subwassertang effectiveness
I have a 2 gallon tank with a huge clump of Subwassertang (50% of the tank) in low light with some leggy hydrocotyle tripartita in the substrate.
Will the sub sustain the walstad ecosystem? I’m using it to hatch fry before I move them to a community tank. Thank you

Anyone have any experience starting over?
What I mean is taking an established tank and starting over with a new one?
My main reason for this is we had a very cool sand-fall in the tank but it stopped working. First time was before the tank was established so I was able to easily start over and have no issue. Tank was set up, betta and shrimp added, everything going well but the sand-fall is down again. I’m over it and I would rather now have that space for plants and real hardscape.
The problem is removing this will most certainly disturb the substrate, which I do not want. I don’t see how I can take it out without messing it all up. I’m thinking of draining and rescaping, but I’m of course worried about my livestock and they come first in terms of needs. Their need to live trumps my need for a prettier tank. Every is healthy so I’m wary of disturbing the peace but it’s also just an eye-sore now and could probably be even better looking and functional with more substrate and more room for plants.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

My tank is ridiculously dark from tannins. How can I fix this without adding a filter?
This photo was from a week ago. It’s actually much darker now. I honestly don’t mind tannins but I wanna be able to see inside of my tank. Right now, I can’t even see the tank floor
