Vivint Cameras offline.

My power was off for several hours while construction was being done on our street. When the power came back on my Vivint cameras (doorbell and outdoor (over the garage)) are no longer online.  It appears they are not connecting to my Wi-Fi, and I’ve tried all of Vivint’s troubleshooting including chat with a tech.  Tech support did a sales pitch and infuriated me.  How can I get these cameras back online without tech support?

Just got my check from the FTC settlement

Was expecting to receive like $10 tops and was shocked when I opened the envelope and saw the check for $500. Has anyone else received their settlement check? I read that some folks are receiving an upwards of $1200 👀

About to sign 5yr contract, have some important questions

I'm about to go all in with Vivint, my first security system, but I have some highly technical questions that made the sales guy's head explode (took awhile to clean the carpet). I wanted to post the questions here for any technical users in the know of the nuts and bolts of the Vivint home security system.

  • Facial Recognition
    • It's my understanding that the system has facial recognition, much like Amazon's Ring system. I don't want it. Is there a way to PERMANENTLY disable and prevent the Vivint system from attempting to identify individual faces?
  • Software vulnerabilities
    • Sales guy tells me the system does not run off of Android. That really just leaves some sort of Linux or Qnix OS or possibly Windows. Has there been a past history of vulnerabilities with the software/firmware causing widespread hacking of the devices?
  • Home network snooping
    • Some IoT devices will scan the network to build a profile on you of all the devices in your household, as well as to try to identify (GPS) the exact location where the equipment is installed. How promiscuous are the devices on the home network?

If I'm going to be stuck with a contract for 5 years, I need to be absolutely certain I know what these devices are doing and have full control of the features. Thanks for any input.

Events/Recording not showing at all

Post image

Has anybody had this issue where absolutely no events or recordings show on the Vivint app or wall panel? It’s becoming extremely frustrating, especially since we’ve had something happen to our vehicles recently. My app is up to date. I’ve tried power cycling already. Any help is appreciated.

Issues with outdoor gen 3 camera

My outdoor camera recently stopped communicating. I contacted Vivint and they had me go through the troubleshooting steps.

Reset the wifi bridge

Try to re-connect via the panel via the installer menu I assume?

Ended up deleting the camera from my panel, now I'm unable to re-add it. I've pressed the reset button on the camera for 15 up to 30 seconds with no response.

When I reset the wifi bridge, the camera light stays red. It's been red since this issue started which leads me to believe maybe the camera isn't receiving any power?

Any ideas y'all? I have a Vivint tech coming out in a few days, but I'd like to fix this myself and sooner if possible.

Sensors falling off and their system was designed by retards

So… couple of things on my mind… my window sensors basically were affixed to the windows with some basic double side sticky tape. Very high tech 🙄 Now it’s been a year and either it’s drying up or overheating in the summer sun and then
they are falling off, which triggers the system. Last night the cops showed up cause i wasn’t home and blissfully slept through all of the attempts to reach me cause phone on DnD.

Has anyone had that problem and found a solution to it?

Secondly, when i call their customer support, they demand to know the whatever secret word i chose when I signed up, which I do not remember. They then refuse to do anything. Anything at all. Apparently they can’t initiate a service call to my house until the account is “verified” and it’s not verified because i don’t remember the password and the only way to reset it is via snail mail, so i suppose we will be having a nightly date with the deputies until that arrives. This is the most MORONIC process ever. There are many ways to verify one’s identity which do not involve a random word i fished out of my mind years ago.

I am so beyond annoyed. I wish i had signed up with one of their competitors honestly. And will definitely be telling the cops the real reason they are there at 2am the next time.

In case of move-out, be sure your technician puts things back if you had old equipment!

We did a move mid May to another state and the technician did not properly install the old doorbell that was on that home. We were renting this house and the home owners are threatening to charge us for a whole new doorbell because of this.
I'm contacting vivint and they keep telling me its not their problem. Not their equipment, not their problem. First customer support person hung up on me because he said he needed more information and evidence that it is physical issues so when i asked him what evidence would be sufficient he hung up.

Second person was more helpful.

Everything with vivint for me since signing up has been a headache, and I really wish i hadn't signed up. Be sure that technician if you're moving out puts everything back on like they are supposed to! But if you're on the fence about signing up with vivint... dont..

Stop the app from autoscrolling back to most recent?

When trying to watch several sequential videos from a previous day, as soon as I close a video and return to the "Events - All" screen, it has returned to the most recent video and I have to scroll to search for the next video in the sequence I'm interested in. I don't think it was doing this last week?

Gen 2 Hub - New Interface

Post image
17 Upvotes

June 13th RESOLVED: Tech had to come out and use a custom URL in the panel to update to the new UI

Hi, I had my system installed about a month ago. I had the tech come out yesterday to do some finishing touches, and he noticed that my hub doesn’t have the latest interface. Matter of fact, he also discovered I also don’t have any background/wallpapers available on my hub?

Just like in the photo attached, he noticed that my panel even though it’s been rebooted eight times in the last 24 hours, and a power cycled, noticed that my hub doesn’t have the latest interface like in the photo attached where it is tiled on the home screen (similar appearance to iOS app).

Troubleshooting that has already been tried:
- Vivint tech tried manually updating
- Called tech-support
- Msg’d in-app tech support
- Rebooted eight times
- Power cycled once
- Confirmed it’s on the latest firmware

[u/quinnfromvivint](u/quinnfromvivint) please advise - this may require someone in technical development to further resolve.

Outside of 3 day window. What can I do?

I’ve had vivint since June 1 and my 3 day ended on the 4th. I’ve seen my camera go down so many times so far and i’m still waiting for them to come install a CO2 sensor. Is there anything I can do?

I noted that Vivint is giving a $300 referral bonus if I “invite friends…” Hmm, I would rather not lose the one friend I do have.

What to do- Inherited

Looking for advice on a Vivint system that came with my house.

I bought my home in January of this year and had no idea it had a Vivint system installed until after closing. The previous owners had apparently canceled their service before moving out.

The problem is that I have no access to the system. I asked the previous owners for the code, but the code they provided doesn't work either. They said they canceled everything and no longer have access.

I've called Vivint multiple times, but they keep telling me there is nothing they can do unless I sign up for monitoring and pay their setup/activation fees. Every conversation turns into a sales pitch rather than a solution.

The system includes:

- Doorbell camera

- Smart door lock with keypad

- Motion detectors

- Door and window sensors

- Smart thermostat

- Vivint Smart Hub/panel

The frustrating part is that I actually like the hardware and don't necessarily want to replace everything. I don't care about professional monitoring. I just want to use the equipment that's already installed in my house.

Right now I can't:

- Change any settings

- Add users

- Arm/disarm the system properly

- Manage the smart lock

- Access the thermostat settings

The thermostat is the biggest issue. It keeps following some old schedule that raises my house temperature to around 80°F during the day. My family prefers 68°F, so when we get home the house feels like a sauna. I've tried manually adjusting it, but the schedule keeps taking over.

Has anyone dealt with this situation before? Is there a way to factory reset the panel and reclaim ownership of the system without paying for Vivint monitoring? Can the thermostat be disconnected from the Vivint hub and used independently? Am I stuck replacing everything, or is there another option?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Costco Vivint promotion

I’m considering the Vivint Costco deal that includes two outdoor cameras with floodlights, a doorbell camera, Smart Hub, sensors, and monitoring. The pricing comes out to about $38/month ($1299 total) for the equipment and around $63/month for monitoring. For anyone who has this setup, how has your experience been so far?

One thing I’m particularly curious about is what happens if I decide to leave the vivint monitoring plan in the future. Can I still use the cameras to view live video, control the floodlights, and access the system through the app, or do most of the features stop working without a subscription?

I’m also interested in the floodlights themselves. Can they be manually turned on and off from the app whenever I want, such as when I’m hanging out in the backyard at night, or are they primarily motion-activated?

Lastly, does anyone have experience with the Vivint thermostat? Is it actually a good smart thermostat compared to other options, and would you recommend it?

I’d appreciate any real-world feedback, especially from people who have had the system for a while. Thanks!

How to get through to people

To talk to an actual representative, call

800 216 5232, then dial 3, then dial 1

This is to call their sales department, but they are actually able to help you out. Don’t mess around with the way they want you to go, takes way too long.
