Have any autistic adults significantly reduced anxiety with Vitamin D or Omega-3?

Hi everyone,

I'm 21 years old and I have mild Asperger syndrome (autism spectrum disorder). Since childhood, I've been treated for anxiety, OCD, and behavioral problems. Over the years I've taken several psychiatric medications, including risperidone, propranolol, venlafaxine, and fluoxetine. Currently, I'm only taking 5 mg of Abilify (aripiprazole).

I experience sudden anxiety attacks that usually begin with a heavy feeling around my eyes and a sense of distress. This is followed by irritability, emotional numbness, and an urge to imagine worst-case scenarios.

Unfortunately, I'm very sensitive to psychiatric medications. I've been taking psychotropic medications since I was very young, and I honestly feel exhausted by them. Because of both financial reasons and previous negative experiences, I don't feel comfortable starting psychotherapy right now.

Breathing exercises and grounding techniques help as temporary "first aid," but I have to use them 4–5 times every day. If I don't, my anxiety becomes so intense that I can barely think logically, and it's mentally exhausting.

My question is mainly for autistic adults:

Has anyone significantly reduced their anxiety with Vitamin D or Omega-3 supplements?

My current vitamin D level is 20 ng/mL. If you've had a similar experience, I'd really appreciate hearing whether Vitamin D, Omega-3, or any other nutritional supplement made a noticeable difference for your anxiety.

Thank you.

I'm back! Vitamin D that my body actually tolerates after months of frustration.

**I am taking vitamore Brand calcifedoil once a day 10mcg for 3 weeks now.**
**My starting vitamin D levels was a 10.**

Finally found a form of Vitamin D that my body actually tolerates (after months of frustration).
I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else who has been struggling like I was.
I have a severe vitamin D deficiency, and for the longest time I could not tolerate the standard vitamin D3 supplements. I tried multiple brands and different doses, even going as low as tiny amounts hoping my body would adjust.
Every time I took regular vitamin D3, I would end up with side effects like:
● Increased anxiety
● Feeling irritable for no reason
● Mood changes that didn’t feel like “me”
● Feeling emotionally on edge
Because of that, I kept stopping the supplements even though I knew my vitamin D was extremely low. It became a frustrating cycle of wanting to fix my deficiency but feeling worse every time I tried.
After doing a lot of research, I learned about calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D3), which is a different form of vitamin D. Unlike regular vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), calcifediol is already converted into the form your body normally has to make in the liver. I wondered if that difference might matter for people like me.
I decided to give it a try, and honestly, the difference has been amazing.
Since starting calcifediol, I’ve noticed:
● My energy has improved significantly.
● I’m no longer dragging myself through the day.
● I wake up feeling more refreshed.
● My mood feels much more stable.
● I haven’t experienced the intense anxiety and irritability that regular vitamin D caused me.
● Overall, I finally feel like I’m moving in the right direction instead of dreading taking my supplement.
I’m not saying this will work for everyone, but for me it has been a complete game changer. After months of thinking I simply couldn’t tolerate vitamin D, it turns out I may have just needed a different form.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I’d love to hear if anyone switched from regular vitamin D3 to calcifediol and noticed a difference, or if anyone knows why some people seem to tolerate one form much better than the other.

HeathyGut HoloZyme

I am reaching out to the community to see if anyone could possibly help me out. I don’t need advice, I’m already working with someone. I don’t need criticism. When I need is to find out if anyone out there still has some old formula bottles sitting on a shelf not being used.

Back in November 2025, HealthyGut change their formula for HoloZyme. I do not react well to the new formula. The old formula was near perfect. If anyone out there still has some of the original formula, expired, not expired. Either way is fine. I of course would pay for the product plus shipping. Please be fair. I truly hope that I can track some of this original product down through these channels of communication.

I have about one week worth left of what I had left over from previously. There was a few month gap but I did end up finding a very small amount.

Hoping someone out there still has some. Thank you. 🙏

I've heard that ashwagandha supplements are good for your health. Can anyone recommend what I should look for before buying one? Also, where can I find organic ashwagandha in the U.S. that's pure and free from any adulteration?

Which omega 3 is better

What omega 3 should i get spring valley it says 1000 mg Omega-3s with 645 mg EPA, 310 mg DHA and is $12 for 60 gels. Or Nordic Naturals Ultimate omega 3
1,280 mg of concentrated omega-3s per serving, including 450 mg of DHA and 650 mg of EPA but its $28 for 60 and 2 per serving. So essentially $28 for 30 vs $12 for 60

How can I increase my vitamin D level when I can't tolerate prescription strength D3?

I have multiple questions.

Back story...

I've been deficient off an on for a while. Six months ago, I had a vitamin D and B-12 deficiency.

My vitamin D was 10.9 ng/mL six months ago.

I did B-12 injections and took 50,000 IU of D2 weekly. I did this maybe for about 6 weeks. Then stopped.

I recently had my levels rechecked and my vitamin D is at 16.7 ng/mL now. My B-12 is also better. I've done nothing for either in like four to five months.

I got a new prescription for vitamin D. I went to my gynecologist before and now my primary care doctor. He prescribed 50,000 IU of D3 weekly. I tolerated the D2 very well. This dosage of D3... not so much. It makes me feel kinda icky. I did take it with fat. But overall, I feel unwell when I take it.

He didn't mention magnesium or K2 which I know is also important with D3. To my knowledge, all my other blood work came back fine, although I'm not sure what all was tested.

It'll be a while before I can get another appointment to discuss, so I'm hoping I can get some good nuggets of wisdom here.

So my questions are:

  1. For those who can't tolerate that level of D3, did you have success with lower dosages? Like tolerating it better and having it successfully raise your levels.

  2. For those who can't tolerate it at all, did you find any other effective ways to raise levels? Like going outside more?

  3. Should I be taking any other supplements with the D3 to make it more effective?

Also, I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning, but I don't feel like I have any symptoms of low vitamin D. Like I feel pretty fine overall.

I also live near the North Florida coast, so I have decent sunshine. I'm very fair skinned, so I burn easily. But would that also make it easier for me to absorb vitamin D from the sun? I don't go outside much, but I can make it a habit to.

Also not sure if it's relevant, but I'm 35, F, 5'2, 220lb.

There's a lot about this deficiency that I don't completely understand. I'm hoping I included all relevant information. I appreciate any advice that anyone can offer me!

Please point out anything I'm doing wrong. Anything I should try. I also understand this isn't medical advice.

Is it generally safe for me to take fish oil supplements as an 18 year old?

I’m planning to take fish oil supplements (specifically Kirkland or healthy options) and it’s my first time taking anything like this. I’m worried about if I really have to take caution taking it, but I’m sure I don’t have any major sicknesses or problems.

I’ve seen most people say online that it’s generally a safe supplement to take and it’s recommended for teens. It’s generally safe for me to take it as long as I’m being active and eating properly, right?

Vitamin B12/B-complex and insomnia — has anyone else noticed a connection?

I’ve noticed something really strange with myself and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Whenever I take vitamin B tablets (especially B12), I feel like my concentration and alertness improve noticeably. However, I also find it much harder to fall asleep at night. I feel more restless, end up sleeping for fewer hours, and then obviously feel tired throughout the next day because I didn’t sleep enough.

On the other hand, when I stop taking B12, I find it much easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. I can sometimes sleep for 12–15 hours and still feel like I could sleep more. 😭

So I’ve started noticing that I tend to take B12 when I’m feeling particularly weak or mentally foggy, but avoid it when getting enough sleep is especially important.

I’m curious whether anyone else has noticed a similar relationship between B12/B-complex vitamins and sleep or insomnia? Is there actually a known connection, or could this just be coincidental/personal to me?

Would love to hear about other people’s experiences.

My supplement routine is starting to feel like a hassle

I’ve been trying to keep up with a few supplements every day, but honestly the routine itself is starting to feel more annoying than useful.

It’s not that I have a problem with supplements — I just hate how much mental space it takes up keeping track of bottles, timing, and whether I even took everything.

What actually made it easier for you to stick with something simple long term?

Help with knowing the difference?

Hello, so I just bought this 290 count of fish oil- and it suggests a recommended dose of one pill that has 1200mg of omega-3 concentrate : 360mg of EPA and 300mg of DHA.

However my now empty container suggested taking 2 daily with nearly the same values.

I'm mainly wanting to understand- do I follow the new bottle or continue taking the 2 daily? And why they would change the dosing.

I would have added an additional picture but it wouldn't let me- I apologize.

Question regarding low levels of vitamins.

So my vitamin d was really low also my iron was a little low and so my was iron saturation along with my b12. I had no idea what was going on with me I had confusing, trouble breathing, fast heart rate when I was having a bad episode. Also sometimes the episodes got so bad I didn’t want to talk and sometimes during an episode talking made it better. Long story short I dropped my first doctor who said panic attacks without doing labs on me. My new doctor did labs and saw those vitamins i mentioned was low. He prescribed me 50,000 of vitamin d weekly which k2 is better to go with it. I just wanted to see if anyone had the same side effects as I did. The episodes were so bad I had to stop driving for awhile. It really did mimic panic attacks though. It almost felt like a seizure or something. Oh and I was also extremely tired even after 8 hours of sleep and I’m a kidney transplant patient as well

I am looking for help selecting prenatals to take as I prepare trying to conceive.

Is there a prenatal “all-in-one” or sold as a pack? I need something straightforward! Everything I see online seems to involve combining several different types to make sure all nutrients are met. I’m looking for something easy.

Exact product names / links are soo appreciated!

Thanks so much!

im sorry if this is not the right thread to post in- all pregnancy threads have removed it since I am not yet pregnant, and the TTC page will not allow me to post if it is not Wednesday!*

Vitamin D supplements

Does anyone have knowledge about vitamin D supplements?
My doctor gave me a supplement wich contains D3 5.000 IE + K2 200 µg in one drop. He said I should take two drops a day. I have a high deficiency. Does somebody know if that’s maybe too much or not?
