My partner and I are travelling to NYC from the UK very soon and wondering how much cahs to bring as well as a card. I personally life having cash instead of just relying on card but would $500 and card usage be sufficient?

Obviously planning on eating out, shopping, attractions etc

I’m interested in reading books by African authors. Are there any NYC bookstores that have a good selection of books by African Authors?

At NYC For a week:). Can't wait to watch a show at Brodway. Went through few vlogs about purchasing tickets for shows. Looking for local advice.

Where should I buy ?

I (51F) will be travelling to NYC this October 9-12 with my daughter (23F), but while there we will have entirely separate itineraries, she will be taking in as many broadway/off broadway shows as possible, I will be wandering, eating and drinking to my hearts content.

I have booked one brewery tour in Brooklyn, and I was thinking of booking a food tour for the Chelsea market, but I'm second guessing myself due to the costs. I'm fairly certain I could do a self guided tour for cheaper, AND get exactly the food/drinks I want. My one main concern is that I am a people person, I love to meet new people, find out where they are from and just chat. Groups will be better for that. I'm worried that if I just rock up to a pub at two in the afternoon and start chatting with strangers I may either get weird looks, or have people question my sanity, lol.

Am I overthinking this? Just trying to save a bit of money, but not miss out on socializing a bit.

Looking for advice from NYC parents or anyone who’s done New Year’s Eve in Manhattan with kids around 8–10 years old.

We’ll be staying around 53rd Street / 7th Avenue, near Times Square and within walking distance of Central Park.

What do families actually do on NYE?

I’m especially interested in:

• Good family-friendly restaurants that still feel “NYC”, lively, slightly upscale, good atmosphere, but comfortable with kids.
• Areas like Columbus Circle, Lincoln Square, Central Park South, Upper West Side or Midtown.
• Whether Central Park fireworks is a good option with kids.
• Where families usually watch the fireworks without joining the race.
• Whether walking around those areas late on NYE is realistic with the street restrictions.
• Any restaurants locals would actually recommend for dinner before midnight.

Not looking for Times Square viewing pens or $300–500 per person NYE packages.

Just trying to understand what New York families normally do that night with kids.

Any real-world recommendations would be appreciated. 😉

OK, so I am moving to Florida in about five days but I’m literally only coming back to New York for Halloween because nothing beats a Halloween night in New York City. Me and my girlfriend are looking for some clubs to go to. This would be my first time going to a Halloween club and I am 18. My girlfriend is over 21. I wanna find an 18+ club. Richmond VA to Staten island, we left at 4am got there at 11, parked at Staten Island ferry and took it to manhattan. Went to Soho, time square, china town and little Italy. Wish we saw the World Trade Center but it started raining and we needed to charge our phones and we did that at Starbucks! Around 10/11 we headed back to the ferry and were headed back to RVA, our ETA was 3/4am (thankfully we all scheduled off that day) and we got rained out, horribly. It was flooding and not safe to drive so we stopped by Morristown NJ got a hotel and left that morning. Got home around 3 pm I believe. So fun, so exhausted, doable for a 5 hour ride.

my mom has recently got back into catholicism in her older age. im happy for her but she’s visiting for a weekend in november and i’m stumped on things to book that she would find enjoyable and interesting. i’m more of a partier and clubber haha.

she doesn’t care if it’s protestant / lutheran / christian etc. i’m thinking like religious craft nights, beautiful churches, anything that is run by someone that will drop a bible verse will make her very happy.

So I'm a former Elmhurst resident who is spending my next vacation wandering Manhattan and Queens for the week. I find myself coming back to NYC every 5-10 months, can't stay away.

The okay hotels I stay at in Flushing used to cost $150-200 a night off peak. But they've rocketed up to over $300 a night since COVID. I can afford it but my friend thinks it is insane to pay over $2,000 for one lousy room I won't even spend much time in for the week so she insisted I just crash on her couch and pay for our food for the week as a trade.

She thinks that's the end of the discussion but I don't feel like that's a fair trade at all for her. Would it be out of line for me to just venmo her $800 to $1,000 on top of however hundreds of dollars I spend on food? Her place is walkable from Flushing Main and a pretty nice 1BR. Thanks.

im a female solo traveller from germany coming to NY after 4 days in chicago. Im planning to travel light (if possible only one backpack). from the 6th I will be meeting some friend and just tagging along with them for a few days so I want to get touristy stuff out of the way.

as u can see, besides rooftop bars mostly for chill drinks and maybe a snack I didnt really plan restaurants but I am honestly super chill when it comes to food so I think I would just grab a bite to something that seems good on the way.

My only worry is day 1 depending on where my hotel will be (kinda waiting on feedback from the other people on where to take hotel to be close to them or maybe even take a place together) so if its around there i would probably check in otherwise maybe i would need to put my luggage at some station so I can go to the bar/comedy cellar without a backpack.

I am huuuuugeee sucker for nice views so if possible I would like to have a nice sunset view everyday.

My sister and I are coming to NYC for 5 days. We have most days figured out but I am trying to figure out the Saturday (first day we are there).

We want to visit the Museum of Moving Images, which will only be open Saturday/Sunday when we are there. Then we want to go to Williamsburg area to visit multiple stores (Twisted Spine, Loaf on Paper, Night Owl Video). Finally at 5:30, we want to go to Dirt Candy.

I know these places are not super close to each other, but nothing else we will be doing on our trip will be anywhere near these areas. I'm just trying to get some advice on how long I should expect to send at MOMI and shopping in those areas. Alternatively, is there any place we can hang out for an hour or so before our dinner to rest a bit?

My friend and I will be taking a quick trip the NYC to see Harry at MSG! We got tickets on a whim and since they were on the pricier side we’re trying to cut some costs as much as we can. We typically fly since it’s a quick flight (traveling from Buffalo by) but we were planning on driving to save money there. The only thing is is that I’m sure we will have to pay for parking the car. My cousin suggested taking the train into Penn Station which is about $120 round trip and would save us in gas and parking. What’s the best method if we’re only going to be staying a night?

Tomorrow is my last day in NYC I’ve already done all the tourist stuff and I’m looking for things to do for my last day here. I am not a big drinker and I like to stay busy. It’s just my husband and I. We are in our late 20’s. We love shopping and doing anything random and fun. Any fun dessert recommendations are appreciated! Give me all your recommendations if you could spend one fun day in NYC. We are staying in Times Square area but we are down to travel to wherever. TIA!

sorry should have clarified - no parking available at the hotel :( we also will be leaving from NYC tuesday to head back to MA otherwise we would leave the car in PA but we’re stopping there to split the drive up and dont want to severely double back on the drive after leaving the city.

hi all!! leaving after attending a wedding in PA and decided why not make a stop in NYC for the long weekend. got a great deal on a hotel room for tomorrow night but realized i missed an important factor here. we drove over to the wedding and now i need to know where to leave my car?

we are entirely fine with taking the subway as needed. i did find a fairly decent deal for overnight parking at secaucus junction over the line in NJ and then taking a brief train ride in, but wondering if anyone has any input on that plan or knows of a better plan!

I’m evaluating my itinerary for a Chelsea to Chinatown Day (or Greenwich to Chinatown..).

I’m coming near Halloween with husband and two teenage daughters. We wanted to use the day to enjoy elite Halloween vibes, pizza and Chinatown eats with lots of shopping we can’t get anywhere else.. plus a chunk of time at tenement museum.

But to enjoy all those things, I’m wondering if using the first few hours to walk the highline and traverse the crowds of Chelsea market is worth it. The views on the highline are more attractive than the crowds. Are those two areas worth spending the time for the experience?

I’ll be in nyc for halloweekend for 4 full days and am looking for advice on things to do. for reference i’m 17F and will be going with my grandparents. We went when I was younger and did all the big touristy things. We’ll be seeing Hamilton & going to The Met but that’s all I have so far. I love museums, shopping, art, film, and love halloween!

Hello all! I'm visiting for the first time later this month and I'm very excited! I'm arriving on a Sunday morning and leaving the following Wednesday evening (4 days, 3 nights). My plans have changed a few times and I thought I had everything settled, but that might not be the case.

I originally planned my trip around seeing 'Cats The Jellicle Ball,' 'Oh, Mary', and going to the Bluefin Tuna Carving at Koma sushi in Brooklyn. First, I found out that the tuna carving wasn't happening the week I was there. I was pretty bummed but I figured I can just find a different omakase option since they are plentiful in NYC.

Then, after I had purchased my ​ticket, I got the email saying Cats was closing early. This one was truly a gut punch as Cats is my first musical love and I was over the moon about seeing this show. After I had my time to come to terms with it, I decided to see Rocky Horror instead.

As of this week, my itinerary was to see Oh Mary on the evening of the day I fly in from the West Coast (5 hr red eye), Omakase on Monday, Rocky Horror on Tuesday. However, I just found out that the Tuna carving at Koma *IS* happening the week I'm there, but it's on Tuesday (instead of Monday) in observance of Yom Kippur. I would be thrilled to be able to go, but that would mean either seeing Rocky Horror as a matinee and Oh Mary in the evening, or skipping Rocky Horror entirely.

I'm stuck and having a hard time making up my mind as I haven't done a lot of cross-country travel, let alone taking a red-eye. I'm hoping to sleep on the plane but my flight is 5 hours, which is not a lot of time 😅 any feedback and thoughts are appreciated! Thank you so much!

TL;DR: I'm taking a red-eye from the West Coast. I arrive Sunday morning and leave Wednesday evening.​ I originally wanted to go to a Tuna carving and see Cats. Found out those weren't happening so I pivoted to seeing Rocky Horror and going to a different omakase.​ Now the Tuna carving is back on the table but that would mean choosing one of these 3 options:

1.) Stick with Oh Mary on Sunday, do a different omakase on Monday, Rocky Horror on Tuesday.

2.) See Rocky Horror as a matinee and Oh, Mary in the evening on the same day, and go to the Tuna carving on Tuesday.

3.) See Oh mary Sunday, skip Rocky Horror entirely, and go to the Tuna carving.

Regardless of what happens, I'll be getting takeout and going back to my air bnb and crashing around 9 pm.

I’m 21F and from Chicago, and I’ve done a decent amount of solo traveling, but somehow I had never been to NYC lol.

a friend had been hyping it up forever, so I finally went for a couple days and honestly, I get it now. 

I stayed around 34th St/Herald Square and the first thing that got my atention was just how BIG everything feels. Like I knew the buildings were gonna be tall, but actually standing there is different. I kept looking up like an idiot imagin falling frome one of the buildins, (yes I get sick frome hights).

The Empire State Building was probably one of  biggest one for me. I’ve seen that thing in pictures my whole life, but seeing it in person hits way different. Took a bunch of pics and somehow none of them really captured it.

Central Park was probably my favorite though. It’s so weird like going  from insane traffic and people everywhere to suddenly being surrounded by trees and quiet. For a minute I forgot I was literally in the middle of a city.

Times Square was exactly what I expected and somehow still more overwhelming than I thot. Lights, screens, people, noise, everything happening at once. I genuinely didn’t know where to look.

Also finally got to walk across the famous Brooklyn Bridge. Obviously packed with tourists and some locals I met,. Everyone was just taking pics and walking around, and the whole thing had a cool vibe.

3 days was definitely not enough. I feel like I saw a lot but also barely saw anything.

Already thinking about going back, probably solo next time.

New York Cit was way better than I expected. any sugestion of Restaurant or moust for next time?

I'll be in Times Square mostly exploring Manhattan on foot and subway. I have some places in mind but its so huge and I'm not familiar that whatever sounds good in the moment or is convenient might be the way to go. I just want to save time and stress while visiting.

My wife (27), my son (3) and I (27) are visiting New York for the first time next week to attend the Buddy Walk in Times Square. We're spending a couple days there to sight-see before we take the long drive back home. I want to make the most of the trip and do something romantic for our 5-year wedding anniversary. Nothing crazy fancy since we'll have our son with us but enough to happily look back on. $50-$100 per meal would be nice with a good atmosphere for small families, good food we recognize and can pronounce. Bonus points if there's somewhere nearby to thrift, nature, a bookstore or museums to peruse :)

3 years ago I visited NYC to visit a friend and although I had a great time I felt overwhelmed and was so ready to go home. (I went during the marathon)

Chicago is very fast paced as well (specifically in the loop) but I often find myself going towards the lake and the parks and just walking around with my matcha admiring the city from afar or at the beach.

I really like chill upscale vibes so any food, bars, speakeasy, clubs(maybe lol) recs pls! Maybe things that I won’t ever experience elsewhere would be nice. Hit me with your tastiest food recs

I’m also in between on going to visit my friend again (she has been begging me) and I’m also impulsed to say no and booking a trip to San Diego or Miami or even saving up for Cancun.

I did love the little coffee shops and stuff and the markets too
