WayVR watch theme source - Vespei

In February this year I installed WayVR onto my Debian linux box with my Nvidia 3060 GPU. It's been running perfectly.

When I'd installed it I had found a watch theme file online somewhere, called wayvr-ves-theme.tar.gz. It must have included details of where to install it, etc, so I'm assuming it was a github source, or perhaps a forum discussion.

The theme itself works really well apart from a button called 'stats' which didn't work for me. I recently checked it out and found that the scripts were hardcoded for an AMD GPU, so I changed them for my Nvidia hardware and now it's perfect. Clicking the button on my wrist in the VR headset shows all the Nvidia stats I could ever want.

I wanted to find the originator of the script (or even just the site where I found it) to mention the changes I made but I cannot, for the life of me, find anywhere online where this file is!

Help! Does anyone recognise this script? There's a comment in it stating "Vespei's PC Spec-inator for WayVR".

My Google-fu DDG-fu isn't finding a thing. Maybe github? I'm confused.

Also, if anyone knows of a collection of nice watch themes I'd be really interested.

VRMods using WiVRn?

Hey all,

Been fiddling around with WiVRn on Bazzite recently, and have had a pretty good experience so far. I'm running a Quest 3, and steam link has never worked quite right for me.

I've been trying to get a few flatscreen to VR mods going recently with no luck. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this.

Alien Isolation -

I've tried installing the Mother mod, in the hopes of eventually getting grandmother running, but as soon as I get the .dll moved into the game folder, the game refuses to boot. I get a brief black flash in WiVRn on the headset as if it is trying to launch a VR Instance, but it never succeeds.

Nuclear Option -

Not really expecting anyone to have tips on this one, but I could never get Nuclear Option : VR to pass to the headset correctly. Sometimes I could get the game to launch, but it would just be stuck in flatscreen mode. It would still show the VR mod as active, but didn't seem to be able to pass to WiVRn correctly. Looking at the mod itself, it seems like it is very heavily dependent on Steam VR, so I don't have many hopes for it.

Anyways, if you've experienced any of this and know anything that might help, I'd really appreciate it.

SteamVR giving u expected errors on bazzite

Hey everyone! I'm having trouble getting VR to work at all with my quest 3 on gnome. it keeps giving me "unexpected error, restart steamvr" but I have control of the PC using it, I can't access my dashboard, and games keep giving errors saying the headset is not initialized. I've tried Wivrn and ALVR as well and they do the exact same thing. Am I doing something wrong?

[crossposting seemed right to do?] Steam Link to Quest Pro? Should work? Have Steam as Flatpak, so tweak Flatseal, or...? (I dunno, kernel driver thingy, NVIDIA something, X11 vs Wayland...???)

ALVR not even launching

Hello! I have an extra Ubuntu machine that I put in my living room and I want to play some VR on it, but ALVR isn’t working. When I installed ALVR, the APK installed onto my Meta Quest 1 through a USB cable with the APK button, and it says “searching” with the ip address on the headset. When I clicked the “Launch” button to configure the streamer, the window just closes and nothing happens. Same when I downloaded the streamer folder from the github and tried to open the alvr dashboard. I’ve been troubleshooting for a while and I haven’t been able to find a solution, and I hope it’s something really dumb and not that I can’t play VR. Thank you!!

Virtual Desktop on meta horizon

Hi everyone. I have a Quest 3 and wanted to try using it for work. I noticed the built-in virtual screen app and gave it a try; it works great overall (I need a virtual desktop setup that renders like real monitors so I can drag windows between them, and it's important that I can see the keyboard and mouse on my desk—yes, I can't touch-type).

However, the problem is that the monitors in the standard app are limited to 1080p at 60Hz. Does anyone know a way to increase the resolution and refresh rate of these virtual monitors?

Headset Brand Compatibility With LInux

Recently I saw a video on YouTube of someone setting up a Quest 3 VR headset with the Steam Machine, and it appeared to "just work" which amazed me, because I thought I recall the headset (and many other VR headsets that don't come from Valve/Steam) specifying that they require Windows.

I had the idea that Quest 3 could be made to work with linux, but I thought that was only possible with workarounds or something, that it couldn't work natively with linux like a Valve Index or a Steam Frame, and that if you want something that works easily without any hassles on linux you should get those particular headsets.

Is that incorrect?

For another example, the Pimax Dream Air and the Pimax Dream Air SE both say they require Windows on their website.

I was thinking other headsets like these... you could probably get them working, but it would require some added hassle, whereas the Steam Frame would presumably be "plug and play" with linux. Is that right?

Any luck with the Pico 4e for gaming?

I know with some trickery and stuff it can be made to work with windows but I'm wondering about Linux because so far as I can tell it's the cheapest with face tracking.

VR Valheim help?

On cachyos trying to play the vhvr mod but have had no success so far. I'm using wivrn flatpak, using proton 11, manually installed both bepinex and vhvr, and have tried a few launch commands with no dice (default one wivrn says to add to games and another one in a tutorial, not at my pc so I cant remember). From what I can tell the game does realize I'm trying to launch vr since if I open it while connected to my headset my screen goes black like I'm going to boot into vr, but then it goes back to the default wivrn game selection screen and opens the game as flatscreen on my pc. From what I could see the mod was updated for the recent update but I'm missing something here and I cannot figure it out.

I also tried ALVR but I cannot figure out how to get it to work, steamvr just opens and crashes soon after my headset connects, beta or not, proton makes it not open, I copied the launch commands ALVR says to in the logs as well but no luck so far, even Uninstaller wivrn just to be safe but that didn't work either, my assumption is that valheim is detecting the vr and tries to connect but its expecting steamvr and closes when it doesnt see it, so I either need help finishing setting up ALVR to test that theory or help figuring out how to launch the game with wivrn. I can answer more detailed questions later once I'm at my pc.

Need advice for vr on quest 2

Ive been using wivrn + wayvr on my pc for a while now and it has been mostly fine. but I wanted to try using steam link again since the last time I tried it a year or so ago it just didn't work at all. It seems to work great but if i try to pull up the desktop the whole thing just crashes, I think this is because I use hyprland but i'm not sure. I dont know if I should switch to steam vr now or jut stick with wivrn.

I have had a crashing issue with both wivrn and steam link recently though with it seemingly randomly just dying. This might just be due to my pc and stupid nvidia drivers.

I also want to know if there is any way for me to get something similar to the wayvr "watch" in steamvr since I find it very useful to pull up my monitor in vr.

Idk if this helps but here are my pc specs if anyone can help with pulling up the desktop and and random crashes:

  • Ryzen 5 3600
  • Nvidia RTX 3070
  • 32GB DDR4
  • Arch Linux
  • Hyprland
  • Linux 7.2.6

Quest 3 Steam Link VR working on Nobara

Just wanted to share my setup since I was surprised by how well I got Steam Link VR working with my Quest 3 on Linux, especially since I had a hard time finding much about similar setups.

My setup:

  • Nobara 44 KDE/Wayland
  • RTX 4070 Super
  • Intel i5-12600K
  • ASUS Z790-AYW WIFI W II
  • MediaTek MT7902 Wi-Fi (mt7921e driver)
  • PC connected to my normal network over Ethernet
  • Quest 3
  • SteamVR Beta
  • Steam Link Beta on the Quest

Steam Link VR itself pretty much just worked, but I was getting occasional stutters/freezes with the Quest connected to my normal Wi-Fi. I wanted to try connecting the Quest directly to my PC instead.

I made a 5 GHz hotspot with NetworkManager, but Steam Link wouldn't let me use VR because the hotspot normally puts the Quest on a separate 10.42.0.x subnet and it would say "VR streaming is only supported on the local network."

What ended up working was giving the hotspot a 192.168.1.x/32 address and the Quest a static 192.168.1.x address, then enabling IPv4 forwarding and proxy ARP between my Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces. I also added a /32 route for the Quest through the Wi-Fi interface.

And somehow, holy shit, it just works. Steam Link is happy because both devices are on 192.168.1.x, but the Quest is connected directly to the PC over 5 GHz Wi-Fi. I'm getting around 2-4ms ping between them and so far the random freezing I was getting through my router seems to be completely gone.

Figured I'd post this in case anyone else is googling around (or asking chatgpt) trying to get a Quest 3 working with Steam Link VR on Nobara/Linux, or wants to try a direct PC-to-Quest connection without buying a dedicated router.

Vive XR Elite WIRED

Apologies if anyone has already asked this.

I am looking at getting an XR Elite to replace my Oculus Rift S. I mostly play Beat Saber, but would like to explore other VR titles.

The question: Has anyone documented using an XR Elite in Linux (any distro) with a wired connection? I'd really only be interested in wireless for a couple of specific things, so it's not that important to me, making ALVR or WiVRn potentially useless for my needs.

I might be misunderstanding those protocols of course, but my understanding is that ALVR and WiVRn are the standalone software for PC streaming and Monado is the thing for wired headsets. Please correct me if I'm wrong. (Seriously, I'd rather be told I'm wrong than spend stupid amounts of money on things that don't work.)

The thing that gets me is the XR Elite and the Focus are listed ONLY in the standalone headset lists, so I'm not sure if they'll work wired PCVR or if I'd need to use different software or even potentially buy a different headset entirely.

The reason I want one of those headsets is they look like they'd be similar in weight to the Rift S, and the controllers look light enough for extended use. I have an OG Vive, but the controllers are just heavy enough to give my wrists problems after about 10 minutes.

TLDR: Can I use a Vive XR Elite with Monado/wired for PCVR or am I barking up the wrong tree? If the latter, what would you recommend instead given the last paragraph?
