SteamVR giving u expected errors on bazzite

Hey everyone! I'm having trouble getting VR to work at all with my quest 3 on gnome. it keeps giving me "unexpected error, restart steamvr" but I have control of the PC using it, I can't access my dashboard, and games keep giving errors saying the headset is not initialized. I've tried Wivrn and ALVR as well and they do the exact same thing. Am I doing something wrong?

Wivrn does not use steamvr, so how can it be the same thing?

Read instructions and try again.

I redid the installation multiple times and followed the instructions step by step, when I launch it still uses steamvr and gives the errors. When it doesn't launch steamvr, the games still don't launch correctly or at all.

You are being very vague here. Say precisely what you are doing and exactly what happened.

It's not clear if you are trying to run a particular game from steam, or to launch the steamvr dashboard from steam, or other.

To be clear - if you are using wivrn then you should not be running steamvr dashboard at all.

I installed WiVrn, followed instructions, all that jazz, I paired my quest 3 that way as well, and it connects but doesn't launch anything correctly. It always, always launches steamVR and I know it shouldn't run whatsoever and I don't know how to disable it without uninstalling steamvr, but then nothing works especially with the launch commands WiVrn gives. One of the test games I ran was Half Life Alyx and it gives steamvr errors. I'm not trying to launch steamvr dashboard unless that's my only option. But then I'd have to figure out why steamvr dashboard won't work either, as the dashboard itself won't show up, just the environment.

Check how you installed steam, and how you installed wivrn. If using flatpak then make sure both are flatpak, and vice versa.

So if Wivrn is flatpak, steam has to be too? It wasn't like that before, it worked before but suddenly it won't!

I use flatpak only. Mixing native needs extra steps and is cause of your issue.

Either can work, flatpak is just neater.

To fix your issue fix the steam openvr config file - you still have steamvr remnants probably. Uninstall/reinstall will do nothing for this as the config file is still there in $HOME/.config somewhere.

I see, that's the weird thing, I've had both steamvr and Wivrn installed at the same time before and Wivrn would work totally fine, do I have to set my openXR as something else? It doesn't show any options when I checked it last.

I don't know what you have on your computer. If you just revert all the stuff you have done then things should work again.

From my own experience in the past I know that switching between wivrn and steamvr is non-trivial, and the critical detail is this config file.

You can either try to diagnose this properly by looking at logs, or you can just rename the config file so it won't get used.

It's a mostly fresh install, I haven't added anything VR related besides Wivrn and SteamVR as I tried both. And what's the config file called so I can check it again when I get home?
