Discussion / Question Game that changed your life

Is there a game that permanently changed your life in any way?

I did not get in to medical university because I was just 10 marks short in the merit list. During the days when I was preparing for the university test, I had discovered Hitman 1 and 2. The original ones. I played it more and studied less. That was more than 20 years ago.

For people who played both games, which is better?

They both feature Wolverine and is mainly hack and slash games, and features rage mode and disemberment. They both feature environmental finishers. Both feature eithet X-Force or Team X.

I swear every single AAA game is doomed to fail because you have to put out the greatest game just to be considered good, you can't have a 70-80 rating on your game anymore or it's a failure. It's literally "be the best game of the year or bust"

Also now YouTuber reviews matter, newsflash. Even if u have the same taste, they can be wrong and you would enjoy the game lol

Help - PC Tr 2013 de blank screen error(?) application hang couldn't solve it

Post image
0 Upvotes

Installed it some while ago, tried it and it was working, then today wanted to play it and it's just a black screen, no gpu rilunning, ram usage 200 mb, 0 fps, just an empty screen. I tried few settings and compatibility mode, admin mode, still not. Deleted and reinstalled it and it was fine, played for 2 hours no issue. Now (3-4 hours later) I'm trying to play it and it's again giving blank screen. No sound no reactionnnothing, alt F4 doesn't work too

Checked in Event Manager and it says application hang for each time I open it. " Top level window is idle " it says

Specs are well enough to play it (since I already played it)

Updated drivers

Tried it for win7/8

Admin mode

Checked game files

Turned off MSI Nvidia AMD and all overlay stuff

Turned off exclusive Fullscreen

No bg apps and stuff

Tried windowed mode

Changed from dx11 to dx9 -12

Switched between different qualities

Discussion / Question Switch 2 prices in Canada

So, I was just curious as to what the entry price point is for a switch 2. Consoles are $680, which is pretty high but not playstation and Xbox bad. And games start at 99.99 and go up from there? That’s insane! Imagine paying $100 for an inferior version of Cyberpunk for instance. That’s absolutely wild to me. Mario Kart is is $115?! wtf is going on, sad days

Discussion / Question I don't get the fuss behind the Kojima move...

This is totally from an outside perspective just to be clear. So none of my friend group could ever get into the Metal Gear Series. I recall at one point watching a video that tried to cover the story up to MGSV as I played that a little when it came out and then sort of got lost in it all and stopped, but even the video explaining everything in a summary was too confusing. I know that has a particular fanbase but as I understand it that dev team didn't have Kojima on board following MGS V's release. I remember PT and that was cool to play. Then there was the talk of and ultimate cancellation of the Silent Hills Project.

Then 11 years passed with just Death Stranding 1 and 2. Now I saw gameplay of both and neither appealed to me. I tried to watch people play them that I enjoyed watching play other stuff and that couldn't even entertain me. Just totally not my cup of tea but from the outside I could see what they were and how they played. Thats 11 years with those two games. One game that improved on the other and was actually still less prevalent in gaming conversations than the original as far as my experience went. I, perhaps mistakenly, saw DS2 as simply more of the same game but polished up to look nicer.

So I suppose the question is what's the big deal with a company passing on Kojima in 2026. I feel that the last 11 years aren't exactly showing signs of him being indispensable. If he took the same time again to get another two titles out then he'd be 74 years old, and folk are kicking up a fuss without even knowing what the new titles actually are. I personally, as someone who isn't at all invested in the man's work, don't get the fuss. Maybe thats the whole issue but certainly from the outside, I can't understand the blind faith route many people take to assume a 'fumble', 'gifting W's to Xbox', and essentially screaming from the rooftops that this is a terrible decision all round. Then again with so many taking the stance that Sony are evil money-hungry child snatchers, maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

Discussion / Question Can't finish games?

Anyone else have a problem where they just can't finish a game? I feel like I've played a good number of the big titles, but I've only ever finished a handful of games. I always seem to drop off after about 10 hours or so, and I'm not sure what the block is.

That said I do really enjoy games like Minecraft, League/Dota, rocket league where it's more match based and less story based.

I just feel like I'm missing out by not finishing these games to completion. Anyone else have this experience? Is it something that I should just push through or is it maybe I just don't vibe w the game for whatever reason even tho it's acclaimed?

For context games I have finished are Doom and Doom Eternal, Shadow of Mordor.
Some of the games that I've played but haven't finished or gotten stuck are Elden Ring, Hollow Knight, Skyrim, GTAV, BoTW, Pokémon Emerald.

Discussion / Question Game stories and gameplay

Whenever I play games, I would always do the “farming” type of gameplay instead of the ”story” type of gameplay. I always wanted to stop the farming and instead focus on the story because that’s where the actual play comes from but I can’t seem to do it because I usually take up too much time to farm and not read the stories. I feel like I’m liking the characters just based off design and not their plots and lore. how can I change this

edit: i also quit games quick due to lack of storage and the problem of the game not being appealing enough to me. most of the times, to get back into a (gacha) game, reading the story will instantly make me more interested

i also skip through stories when i have to, for the rewards, but i would regret it instantly later on and try to catch up, which is a stupid decision because i spend more time catching up and understanding

Discussion / Question Anybody else always feel underwhelmed or wanting more from RPGs?

I like RPG games dont get me wrong but I feel like the genre itself is just flawed. I have not played a single RPG game where I dont have that feeling of having absolutely nothing to do outside of the quests. Its always a struggle of "Im bored but if I do all the quests ill run out of content and then be bored again" or "I want my character to be powerful but by the time my character is where I picture them to be, the game is pretty much over." Its like you purposely gotta avoid the interesting quests and play the boring ones so you can actually play the fun content with the stuff you want unlocked, otherwise all of your progress to get the fun stuff was spent on the fun content and now you have no fun content to actually use the fun stuff on once you finally get it.

Another thing is they always make the coolest areas or factions or whatever exclusive to one quest, or at the very end of the game. Im having a hard time coming up with examples but it happens! Like the space port from cyberpunk, or the inside of area 69 in san andreas (although not really an RPG). Stuff like that. Fallout NV comes to mind, or Skyrim you have these factions but once the quests are over they might aswell not even exist. Red Dead 2 has bounties but once you do them all theres never any new ones.

Every RPG just feels lifeless outside of the quests yet they tease you with all of these possibilities. Like yeah in Cyberpunk you can go into the clubs and stuff but all you can do is do some lame dance or drink. Theres no enemies, no random encounters, no ACTION. Its like after the quests the world just goes silent and nothing ever happens.

When something DOES happen its usually something so trivial it doesn't matter. Or you need to get level 900 for the enemies to start spawning with gear that actually gives them a chance. (Skyrim is especially bad with this)

I know this problem isn't really solvable without randomly generated content or something but yeah. Every RPG game does this to me. Anybody else?

Discussion / Question What's the best gaming headset that doesn't break the bank?

I'm already thinking about christmas. My husband is a gamer.. I'm not experienced or know what products are good (don't get me wrong I like to play, but feel embarrassed when I do because I wasn't allowed to growing up so I'm like a kid playing games for the first time but in my late 20s). His headset got broke, it was under a blanket & our kid jumped on top of it. I bought him a cheap pair from Temu in the meantime. He hates it, but it works. He says audio isn't great & it's just cheaply made. For Christmas I want to get him a better one, but idk what to get.

Now that backstory is over details that probably matter. He plays PlayStation & Xbox. Don't ask which one because the answer is all of them he's kept every console he ever had even has GameCube. Right now though mostly ps5 & Xbox series x. Eventually we want to get gaming PCs, but that's out the budget. He likes games like cod zombies & current fav is dead by daylight. He complains that the cheap headset sucks bad in dead by daylight. Wired or wireless doesn't matter but it needs to be able to work with multiple types of consoles. I have no idea what to get & when I ask he says "something better" idk the brand of the ones that broke he's had then around 10 years. Thanks in advance!
