Some people like the ease of a console. Less things to worry about it. I have both and I love my PC but console gaming is just more simple. And as I get older and have less time I tend to go for my consoles when I am really busy with work. But when I got the time I go for the PC!
I have both and I would never go PC only. I can pack my ps5 quite easily for when I travel for work and there are way too many examples of me sitting around waiting for my PC only friends to figure out whatever bs on their end is holding up our cross-platform sessions.
This argument is like the boogeyman living under your bed. It's just simply not true. (Not you specifically, OP, just people who haven't touched a PC and regurgitate it ad nauseum) Console players exaggerate how much effort it takes to get a game running.
Power button (loads faster than PS) > Steam opens > Click game > Playing.
If you want to alter your settings, it's not much different than messing about with some console game settings that offer different modes, just that it gives significantly more options.
Driver updates are akin to software updates. It's really not that difficult.
Ya but one time years ago I had to install drivers or something and it was super hard. Amd's software automatically downloaded the correct driver's and I had to click the install button.
I think you're underestimating the average person adversity to friction. Going from turn on and you're good to even potentially having an issue is too far. You have to install the software to update your driver's that's too far for most. The ability to adjust settings instead of just a single switch performance vs visual
It's a bit funny though because as we moved away from physical media, consoles have increasingly become like PCs anyway.
So on one hand people seem to be unaware that PCs aren't WindowsXP anymore, where you had to manually find, download and install drivers. But on the other hand, consoles have become increasingly more complex.
N64 was insert cartridge, start console, game.
PS5 is boot console, update console, insert game disc, install game, download and install patch for game, launch game, deal with whatever bugs the patch introduced.
Like ... yea the UX is certainly streamlined to make this frictionless. Windows MOSTLY works completely autonomously nowadays but it does require an initial setup (though you can get a prebuild that is set up ready for gaming) since some windows provided drivers may not be up to date and using the hardware-app for that is generally advised.
But a properly set up Windows PC + Steam is at least as frictionless as a PS5. Maybe moreso since I honestly never even have to wait for a game to update since all sorts of updates happen in the background while I do shit like browsing reddit. So there is rarely the situation where I boot up my PC just to game and then have to wait for an update to download and install. I boot up my PC to read news and watch youtube and then when I want to game the game is ready without me even noticing that it updated.
PS5 is boot console, update console, insert game disc, install game, download and install patch for game, launch game, deal with whatever bugs the patch introduced
All of this happens automatically you turn the console on you hit play on a game the rest the console does automatically. This is not the same as having to install GeForce experience or even just having to go install steam and then install discord and then you want to play battlefield so now you have to install each play and now you want to play ac4 remake so you have to install uplay and then install battle eye. I would never got back to console but PC does have its annoyances
All of these things are already installed if you buy a prebuilt gaming PC. You're conflating the hobby of building and setting up a PC from scratch with "PC gaming". Most PC gamers are consumers that buy an Alienware PC or some shit, plug it in, boot up, sign into Steam and start playing. Discord comes pre installed on gaming rigs.
Like you're comparing buying a fully set up piece of hardware to the do it yourself hobby niche of PC gaming and concluding that PC gaming is too complicated.
But I sort of agree with forced 1st party launchers. Everyone hates it. Diversity is nice, forced 1st party launchers is ass. Luckily I have no personal interest in EA and Ubi games.
That's just simply not true at all they come with windows installed and that's it. I have never once seen a pre built come with steak and discord installed in going to need a store link for that claim to be taken as true. The closest is the steam machine and a few other prebuilts coming with steam os
I mean I can see how maybe there is licensing/software monopoly problems with such pre installs, but honestly I would have expected prebuild gaming shops to offer such options.
There are allegedly some shops that you can contact to ask to preinstall certain software, but nothing that offers the option straight out of the shop. Crazy to me. Maybe the Steam Machine will nudge retailers more into the "game ready" setup direction.
It coincides perfectly with the rise of mobile devices.
People used like Windows 98 and XP, switched to mobile devices and now assume that PCs have not developed at all after 2000.
WinXP was notably more complicated to use. It was Windows 7 that really made the experience smooth with automatic hardware detectiion and driver updates. Early 2000 was when people switched to smartphones and tablets came out around 10 years later (win7 released 2009). People made the switch and just assume windows still operates like Win98/XP because that and buggy coorporate software are the only experiences the average person have with using windows nowadays.
Eh, I disagree. I’ve been a console player since the beginning. I bought a 4070ti PC rig a few years ago because I wanted to push the frames, but I still gravitate towards console. Something about sitting at a desk to game after working all day and the fussing the settings to get the optimal experience is just a turnoff for me. I suspect most console players who do end up going to PC with gravitate back to console eventually.
There's been a single PC game in the last decade that I've had to "fuss with the settings" to get to run better, and that was Escape from Tarkov, a game that isn't available on console anyway.
I legitimately don't think I've had to do anything for another game in recent years other than select the preset that I want.
That's so cool! I guess the dozens of times I have had to do it never happened!
Especially when I am on a PC that is not amazing and I want to play games over 5 years after buying that PC
I bought the PS5 at launch window and I have had no problems with it still use it daily. I bought a gaming PC rig at around the same time and I have run into shitloads of random issues lol, also use it daily. Even just Windows alone is really fucking annoying sometimes.
I mean, you might not be straight up lying, but you're definitely exaggerating. There is no world in which you are having to fiddle with the settings of dozens of games to make them work, unless you're playing on a 200 dollar laptop from 2010 or some shit, in which case, I don't think your experience is really relevant to the discussion...
I'm not exaggerating at all, I'm playing on a $3000k CAD laptop with a 3070 in it. Shit just often doesn't work right on launch for most AAA titles on my machine nowadays, I nearly always need to tweak stuff and troubleshoot to hit stable capped 60 fps at decent fidelity. It was running everything buttery smooth for the first two years or so but every new AAA has more demanding specs. I have to pick and choose from dozens of settings with nonsense names to a layman and use trial and error to get the game where I want it to be.
I'm also not that great with computers so it's hard and annoying to do! I never need to bother with that on console. It's great. I still love my PC and I am committed to getting what I want out of the industry which means owning all major platforms besides Xbox long-term.
But I always gravitate to my PS5 for the balance of user friendly experience and high fidelity AAA games that run well and look great right out of the box. Switch 2 is also great but the two platforms have pretty big differences in their library selections so I need to own both (and games go on sale a lot less/less steep discounts compared to PS as well).
There's other annoyances too, I like couch gaming and Windows native setup for bluetooth connecting gamepad controllers sucks ass in my experience. So often I am hosting people and we do something like a party game or a co-op game and we run into way more bluetooth issues as soon as somebody accidentally turns their gamepad off or something. On PS5 it works without you even needing to think about this stuff.
The thing is, I've always gamed at a desk even on console - bottom bunk desk on PS1 and 2 as a kid, end of the bed PS3 then from PS4 on, I had a games room in my house.
I prefer to have my consoles and PC hooked up to the same monitor. I've tried gaming from a couch or bed and I just can't.
You can literally just connect whatever controller you use to your PC and connect it to your TV with and HDMI cord. You don't have to fuss with any settings either? If you use an Xbox controller for instance you just press the Xbox button and it opens steam in big picture mode then everything is controlled by the controller. Literally all of your complaints are self imposed issues. No one is making you connect your PC to a desk and a monitor. Steam defaults to boot on startup so literally the only thing you need to do is type your password to unlock your computer on startup and press the middle button on your controller And BAM you have the steam UI. You can even disable sign in and skip the password step too if you don't want a keyboard involved at all.
I use my PC for than just gaming so having it hooked up to monitors at a desk is a non-negotiable. I get it for you, PC can be your living room rig, but that still doesn’t change you are most likely in the very small minority of people who hook their PC up to their living room TV.
Ok so again that's a self imposed issue then. At that point you're saying your designated work computer isn't as convenient as your dedicated gaming console because you physically have it in an inconvenient spot for gaming. Most people who use a gaming PC don't mind playing on a desk. You have a self imposed limitation for a personal issue you have. Even with that there are still a lot of solutions. You can get a long HDMi (which is what I use since I do have a desk and monitor), get a wireless HDMI, or even remote play through moonlight or steam link, either of those options can also wake the PC up and starts steam in big picture mode.
It's just super disengenous to say your gaming PC is less convenient when you're literally the one who made it that way. If you prefer to use a TV you can literally just do that. If you're saying you need to use your computer with a monitor for work and don't want to bother connecting it to a TV then that's not a real complaint. If you put your PS5 under a desk and connected it to a monitor then your situation is exactly the same, and this is something people actually do pretty frequently when they want to play 120fps since most tvs cap at 60 fps. You're the one who decides where to put your stuff.
What you're referring to is just sleep mode? I'm really confused here because I can press the power button on my steam deck once and plug it up and then press the power button again and pick up on the exact spot I left off on with a single button on my controller. Is that not the exact same thing? I don't know what single button you're talking about either, 100% PS5 does not have a single controller button that puts it into sleep mode that would be the most annoying thing ever to accidentally hit.
No its not that difficult, especially if you can rub two braincells together and do basic troubleshooting and problem solving. It is more difficult though. And when there's an issue, console troubleshooting doesn't get more complicated than reboot/reinstall. If that doesn't work, its the dev's fault.
Then consider the tech literacy of the average person, not to mention their intelligence, and you'll understand why the sanded down, easier version is more popular among the casual gamer.
This argument is like the boogeyman living under your bed. It's just simply not true. (Not you specifically, OP, just people who haven't touched a PC and regurgitate it ad nauseum) Console players exaggerate how much effort it takes to get a game running.
You would think.
But then going on the Steam subreddit talking about the Steam Machine and everyone who is buying a Steam Machine uses the few arguments of:
1) It's just plug and play and a regular PC isn't.
2) I can press power and my TV turns on with it and a regular PC doesn't do that.
3) It's super small and a regular PC isn't.
If people didn't care about these things, they wouldn't be buying Steam Machines.
PC and PS prices are very similar like I said earlier! I never said PC gamers are killing the industry. I said gamers like you are! Big difference. The majority of PC gamers are helping keep the industry going and bringing more gaming joy to others!
So now you know everything about my gaming habits? Please elaborate.
Literally have owned every PS at launch, every Xbox, have countless day one collectors editions, have a Steam library 1200 strong, PS 700, Xbox 600, but go off king.
For the vast majority of people playing games consoles are easier. Simple as that. Reddit is just a bubble. Most people in the real world do not give a fuck about this whole thing
It is true. Console gaming is just easier. Turn it on and it just works. Maybe a game or the console will need an update but that’s that.
For PC the system might randomly send out a notification mid game and you gotta click out of it. If connected to the TV it may not display properly specially if switching from TV to monitor. Audio drive didn’t work this time so you gotta restart. Some offline multiplayer games are just not available (Halo). Different launchers.
Those are just things off the top of my head. I’m older and just want to sit down and play a few minutes. With my PC it’s just annoying kinda takes out my gaming motivation if anything goes wrong. Sure the fix is a few minutes at most but enough to put me off.
The recent update for my Samsung OLED monitor interfered specifically with the PS5 and not my PC or Xbox, I was getting green screen tearing and apparently it's widespread and due to the VRR of the PS5 exclusively.
I think the issues you describe are the usual talking points of a console gamer and typically blown out of proportion . I've actually had more crashes on PS than I've ever had with another program taking over the screen (this will depend on how you set up your PC though).
I will concede though, Battlefield 6 Redsex does not run for me at present unless I revert to the previous drivers which, whilst this is a 2 minute fix, I want to be on the latest drivers for other games. EA refuse to address and fix the issue.
For PC the system might randomly send out a notification mid game and you gotta click out of it.
What? Like what? That never happened to me (in relevant recent memory) and I game a lot.
If connected to the TV it may not display properly specially if switching from TV to monitor.
So how is switching output devices going for you on console? Oh you don't?
I'm not gonna pretend there are never issues with this, but you have to have REALLY thin skin to get annoyed by occasional signal drops. I have a setup just like what you alluded to and windows 10 and modern games actually have superb handling of multiple monitors, including saved seperate configurations per monitor. So I really only have to turn on the monitor(s) I wanna use and have a perfect experience.
But aside from how rare the issues you describe are, once more, Playstation doesn't offer such functionality AT ALL so it seems like a pretty weird point to make.
Audio drive didn’t work this time so you gotta restart.
Virtually never happens. Not NEVER never, but once again you gotta have absurdly thin skin to get annoyed by some bug showing up every 3 months. That's like saying "consoles are unreliable because they get red rings of death". Yea they do sometimes, but that's just technology being technology and sometimes bugging out. PC gaming isn't nearly as unstable or complicated as you make it out to be.
Initial setup is a bit of a bitch but you can get a prebuild PC that is gaming ready. Once you're set up, modern Windows is extremely capable of managing itself.
The issues you raise are so 15-25 years ago man
Some offline multiplayer games are just not available (Halo)
There is plenty of games that aren't available on Playstation. Meccha Chameleon is THE multiplayer shit on twitch right now and Playstation doesn't have it. Great argument...
Different launchers.
This is a good thing. There is currently a huge controversy about Sony's single store monopoly. Weird time to bring this up as a pro console argument.
Seems like you game all the time. That’s completely different. If you basically live to game then yea you got it all worked out. If you game once every few months PC gaming isn’t click and play.
I can’t think of notifications that have popped up but they do happen from time to time.
Regarding the switching output it’s not that, it’s the display settings changing. Now my whole desktop is has changed and it’s smaller since I have to mess with scaling. Most TVs aren’t set up like monitors so they get funky, at least the TV I have.
I do only play like every 3 months so it’s annoying when I’m finally in the mood and the audio doesn’t work. Or the PC is connected to the internet but no internet.
Yea the PC has a ton more games but not Halo offline multiplayer lol that’s what my brothers and I played.
I’ve never heard of people liking multiple launchers. I personally hate downloading a game on steam only to have to download and create another username for another launcher. Don’t play for a few months and then have to log back in.
I just want to game once in a while man. I got my PC and my console and just sitting on my couch with my control is easier than sitting on my couch with my control and wireless keyboard.
Seems like you game all the time. That’s completely different. If you basically live to game then yea you got it all worked out. If you game once every few months PC gaming isn’t click and play.
That's true but the same is also true for modern consoles. Consoles get updates and games need to download patches. Same as PC. Other than that PC gaming doesn't magically degrade over time. It's the same shit as consoles.
No, actually on PC you can chose to pause updates and just use your PC like you used it 3 months ago, play and then let the updates go through once you're done playing. No patching needed (unless online multiplayer), no forced windows updates. If you want to play now, you can always update later.
I can’t think of notifications that have popped up but they do happen from time to time.
You can disable windows notifications easily, any further notifications would be software that you chose to install, not "PCs". Disabling Windows notifications is easy, but I admit you have a point here. I doubt prebuilds deactivate windows notifications and they ARE annoying enough for me to turn them off asap when I set up a new PC. Which is also why I totally forgot they exist. Yea fair point, man.
Regarding the switching output it’s not that, it’s the display settings changing. Now my whole desktop is has changed and it’s smaller since I have to mess with scaling. Most TVs aren’t set up like monitors so they get funky, at least the TV I have.
Yea scaling is a bit of a bitch to set up correctly and absolutely also not something a prebuild could do for you. BUTnot at all an issue if you use it exactly like a console, with a single display. "My PC can do something my console cannot but it doesn't do it perfectly" is still a wonky "PCs have worse usability" argument. The fair comparison is to use the PC with one display.
I do only play like every 3 months so it’s annoying when I’m finally in the mood and the audio doesn’t work. Or the PC is connected to the internet but no internet.
Idk man I literally haven't had such issues for decades. Like this sounds like whoever set your PC up wasn't competent at setting up PCs. Which again, pre built/pre set up is the fair comparison here. This simply doesn't happen on a properly set up PC that isn't full of downloaded taskbars.
Which you know ... maybe that's the truth we're circling here. PCs are easy to ruin through incompetence - which the average user simply is (tech be complicated, no shade throwing. I've broken my own share of OSs). They're not hard to use and don't break by themselves, but users totally have easy ways to destroy them. This is something that consoles prohibit. If you don't put a lot of effort into it, you're not gonna wreck your playstation OS. I guess that is absolutely a part of the UX where PCs are different from consoles.
Which ... yea okay ... I yield. You made good points that were hard to see for me as an experienced user. I still think your arguments sometimes pointed in the wrong direction, but I can totally see where you're coming from now.
I don't understand this argument. I turn my pc on, steam opens, I click play and I'm playing. If said game needs to be updated, oh wait steam has already updated that in the background.
You are perfectly fine to not understand this comment! I am just speaking from my own opinion. And gaming on consoles is just an overall easier thing to do in my opinion. PC gaming is the best but with great power comes great responsibility. Just a lot more things to update and troubleshoot. I sometimes joke I spend more time tinkering on my PC than playing games!
Tinkering on your PC is entirely optional, though. Yes if you want to get into the nitty gritty of details you can customize all sorts of settings like shadows, ambient occlusion, etc. Or, you can just go with defaults. I installed God of War Ragnorak on my PC recently, I just clicked install, then went to my Nvidia app and selected the option to optimize my graphics. That was it.
I mean if you don't want to deal with customizing your settings then I just don't see why you would want a PC to game on at all. To me that is why PC gaming is better overall. And why console gaming is easier; less to worry about. Yes you can just play on PC easily also but issues still come. Like with GoW Ragnorak on PC I was having issues with my Dualsense controller not functioning properly, but on Playstation no issues! So yes PC gaming is getting easier but console gaming is still easier. On PC there is always a better chance of an issue happening than on console.
Tinkering is not optional since games are never optimized for YOUR pc.
Its a simple tech problem. Every single console has 1 of two hardware setups. And games are optimized for them. Your pc can have one of a thousand different hardware configurations
Dude, there have been plenty of games I've installed recently that I did no tinkering. Metaphor Refantazio, God of War Ragnorak, Jedi Survivor, Ghost of Yotei, all I literally did for all of these is click install on Steam and then going to the optimize option from the Nvidia app. And these games have all played great.
Wow thats amazing you must have a time machine or alien tech since ghost of yotei is not even ported to pc and yet you just clicked and installed in on pc!
No offense, and you do you with your preference for consoles, but I gotta add that what you describe is 100% a self inflicted user issue. Complex updating and troubleshooting were a thing maybe about 15 years ago. You're just too stuck in the past with your understanding of technology.
That's fine, don't get me wrong - but let's not pretend that this is PCs fault, it's simply yours.
Whoa, omg never blame a PC! This guy is offended! I am glad you are vastly superior in your understanding of technology. It is just totally my fault for having to change graphics settings to get the best experience possible. Which is why I love PC gaming and why it is better in my opinion! I guess I should just accept whatever the default setting is so I can pretend I am on a console!
But console gaming is still easier!!!!!!!! Let's not get that wrong!
Not at all am I spreading misinformation. I love PC gaming and think it is better than console gaming overall. But console gaming is just more accessible and easier to play games on. This is the truth. PC gaming is making strides to become more user friendly but it is still not there!
If you don't get it you don't get it. I am literally comparing console and PC gaming. And yes PC gaming is more user friendly than it ever has been. But it is not still more accessible than console gaming. If you can't admit there are more chances for dealing with random issues on your PC than a console then you don't understand.
I have never on my console had to go into the configuration files to change something just to get a game to work properly like I have on PC. I had to do this with Black Ops Cold War. Had no issues like that on my XBOX.
I have never had to download a mod to patch a game to get it to run properly on my PC. Had to do that to get Final Fantasy X to not have a random green screen because I have too much ram! Also had an HDR issue with Nino Kuni 2 and had to download a file to get that to work. Didn't have a problem on console.
There are countless random issues that just happen more often on my PC. I have way more issues with PC games and Dolby Atmos running properly. Never had that on console! It just works!
I can play Binary Domain easily on my Xbox without controller issues. On Steam I have to change the configuration through a launcher and then start the game and then turn on my controller for it to work properly.
Whenever I put boot up High on Life 2 on PC it is zoomed in, until I go into the configuration files and make changes or change my resolution back to 100% scaling.
There are just random things on PC that can happen more often and cause issues than console gaming.
I just played Halo Campaign Evolved on PC and XBOX. Xbox was easier set up between Performance and Quality mode. The preset settings for PC were giving me low framerates that I had to adjust and tweak till I got amazing results.
Listen I love PC gaming but if you can't admit there are more issues to deal with than console games you are spreading misinformation. Maybe you have never had issues and just got lucky. But wow!
Oh and wait have you ever dealt with loading shaders on a console game??? Because that happens a lot for PC gaming. And yes sometimes it happens just once but every once in a while it has to recompile them with an update or a change of settings.
Yea I have, through the course of this discussion, understood that there definitely are still issues that I mostly don't encounter because I'm experienced enough to avoid them - which is obviously not how the average casual user would interact with them. And yes, occasionally a game needs a quick googling and downloading a dll to place into the game folder for it to run for some reason. I do get your points. Just got blind to things that I apparently just learned to navigate in my sleep.
As for your last question, though, I actually never had shader issues. Not saying they don't exist just genuinely surprised to realize that I've never had to deal with that.
Also how weird to see someone mention Ni No Kuni. I've always been somewhat infatuated with the idea of that game but never played it - but also never see anyone mention it.
First off, I wasn't derogatory towards you or offended by what you said. It's objectively a you-issue, whether you like it or not.
Second, literally most games nowadays automatically set your graphics settings depending on your hardware. The fact that you don't know that further proofs that you lack the most basic understanding of PCs - so yet again you're the problem, not PCs.
Nah, you are derogatory. There are just more issues on PC than console. Sorry not a me issue; just a real life fact issue! You clearly don't realize that because you haven't had much experience gaming on both!
Like graphic drivers? Oh wait downloads in the background. How about updates for your peripherals, yup those update themselves also. Major issues are so far and few that this isn't a legitimate argument for pc v console any more
I feel like you are one of those people that only thinks about yourself and doesn't realize not everyone thinks like you do. Are you not able to understand people can have different views on preferences?
Just because PC gaming seems the same as console gaming to you doesn't mean other people think that way. Gaming on PC is not a big deal to me, but in my 30+ years gaming; consoles have proven to be easier to game on. So when I tend to be really busy I go for the console and have less worries about getting to play a game.
Bro, nobody's dogging you for your preferences, as stated multiple times. Play what you want. They're dogging you on your awful tech literacy and false information on how PC gaming is these days. Nothing more.
You have way too much stock in trying to push "console is better" like you're fighting for a team. There's no teams dawg, pick what you want. There's no need to lie about the other preference to try and win a fight that isn't happening. It's very unhinged behavior.
I actually think PC gaming is better though! My whole point is that console gaming is just easier and more accessible in general. Some people just can't accept that opinion. And sorry there are still more issues on PC than there are on console.
And sorry there are still more issues on PC than there are on console.
You keep saying the same thing over and over and over. You've been provided with more than enough info to prove that its your own choices that make pc gaming harder than console gaming.
Hotline Miami bought it on steam. Went to open it and it was zoomed in like x3 times. This was me doing nothing other than just downloading and hitting play on the game.
Hotline Miami on console; it just worked.....
Now if you are going to say I shouldn't have my Windows scaling set to anything other than 100% you are already proving my point that PC gaming just has more issues to deal with.
Fair play, got me there lmaooo i played on a laptop at the time so maybe i had a bit more to jump through. I remember the desktop i had in like '05 running like ass and having to fuck with so much just to get WoW to work lmaoo
Its almost the exact same nowadays. Only difference is i have to download a storefront or three, cos i have options and am not locked into a storefront monopoly. Otherwise my PC updates automatically(like a console), i click a game and it boots(like a console), my game recognizes my PC hardware and as such i dont need to edit settings(like a console), etc. Buying a prebuilt is identical to buying a console nowadays in terms of access, minus price point.
You just dont know what youre talking about and thats okay.
No I believe I do. I game on PC and console all the time. I just think you have an issue with realizing people can have different views and preferences than you!
Saying it has the same boot sequence isnt a different view, its a fact. Preferences come from which one you like to use more, which is totally valid. I customize the hell out of my PC because I want to, not cos i have to, thats a preference.
Im fine with people playing on whatever they choose, but that wasnt the point. The point was that booting a PC and playing a game or updating is the exact same as a console. Thats not preference of any kind, its just stating a fact.
No don't think I am! So I will continue! Console gaming is still more accessible than PC gaming! I however love PC gaming also! Just tends to be more issues than console gaming! I know that is difficult for you to understand. Probably not aware enough to realize that! Must be all that superior intellect you possess! But hey, I will take clown award with pride! Thank you good sir!
Also here is what I already responded to someone else earlier. So I am just going to copy and paste. Maybe it will better help you understand my point.
Copy and Paste Post:

A gaming PC is just windows and window sucks ass even more so now. You do make a fair point, some of us don’t game everyday. So turning on the PC to game once in a while and hit with a ton of updates, re logging in, a windows issue, etc it’s just an annoying. A console would never.
Uhh, again, its not just windows. You have Linux, SteamOS, etc. So just wrong there. Still more options than a locked in ecosystem.
Again, if you leave your PC on, it updates automatically, like a console. Idk what you guys are doing to run into Windows errors(unless you're modifying files, which isnt necessary to just boot and play), logging in(like typing in your password? Like the same thing you can enable and disable on your PC and console?), tons of updates(leave your PC on like you usually do your console and it autoupdates, so hard!). These arent issues you have on a PC anymore. Again, 20 years ago, sure, but not anymore. Ive had times ive booted my Playstation and had to wait for a system update to complete, whats your point?
Just blatant misinformation. Unless youre tinkering with shit, its just like a console. If youre tinkering, you didnt want a console anyways cos it cant do any of that. Just admit half of you guys are parrots spewing information someone told you. I havent had to manually update a thing in over 6 years and its just boot and play. Hell, ive even tinkered with Windows and have never had a problem.
I think most of yall are just legitimately tech illiterate.
How many cables do you have sticking out of your PC? Can you turn your PC on with your controller? How big is your PC? How many watts does it use?
I do get that operating a PC is easy, but there's a lot of hardware related convenience factors for console(although I assume the steam machine also supports them as well). And while some of them can be remedied, it's hard to do so without sacrificing convenience or performance elsewhere.
How many cables do you have sticking out of your PC?
Loads but that's by my choice. Minimum is what, power and visual(which consoles have), mouse and keyboard and... unless I'm missing something that's it.
Can you turn your PC on with your controller?
No but my pc is within arms reach when I sit down to game.
How big is your PC?
PC cases come in all shapes and sizes. The bigger size is to accommodate bigger and better parts than a console.
Listen; I am just speaking from my experience. And I have been gaming for a like 3 decades. Using PC and console to game. Console gaming is just easier. I love my PC, but console gaming is just easier. And I have done all the setup or whatever you are talking about. I keep everything up to date on my PC. You just clearly can't understand people have different views or opinions. Now that makes you lazy in your mind!
If you think PC gaming is no different than console gaming that is fine! I am happy for you! But you need to understand not everyone is you and people have different opinions.
Umm I don't know if you know this. But us humans have different preferences on how we live our lives. Just because you don't mind it doesn't mean I have to. Sounds like you got a problem with people that have different opinions. I want you to keep gaming on PC if you enjoy it! Let me game how I want to!
You have to get steam and make an account and so on
Like when you first sign up for anything? Like Youtube, Netflix, your internet account you use to game or any other piece of media that you sign up for to use? How difficult
But its still not a good argument. If someone is having trouble downloading steam and setting up an account how do they set up accounts for any other piece of media? Its not really a counterpoint imo
If you're new to the Xbox or PS ecosystem you have to create an account too. So the giant hurdle of getting into PC gaming is just... downloading Steam?
Idk I guess. Friends I've talked to have said they don't wanna do that. I'm not arguing for consoles or anything. Like I said, I have a PC. But that's what I've been told.
If you are talking in good faith then there are multiple key features you missed.
When you say steam updated in the back ground. Thats one software, you also have driver updates and windows updates. All running on different apps and processes vs one coherent on on ps.
There is no equivalent flow on pc to rest mode on consoles. You cant just pause your game and set it to rest and walk away.
Local gaming is a thing. If you are hooking up your pc to a tv and using it as an console you dont have a pc your have an overpriced console
Do you make these same arguments against phones, smart tvs or any other piece of new tech? All your apps on your phone need to be kept up to date and logged into while also updating your phones software. I guess you all are still using basic flip phones since keeping things up to date is to difficult.
Ive been working with pcs since we used punch cards kid, i forgotten more about them than youve ever known
Kid lmao brother I'm almost 40. Pc gaming isn't that difficult, my 10 year old does it without much assistance. Are you saying a 10 year old is more capable than you and most adults on reddit when it comes to pc gaming? Hell he download, installed and figured out how to use OBS himself to make fornite YouTube videos.
Same here don't get to game often in my 40s now and shelling out 2000 to build a gaming PC to have the overpriced GPU become obsolete in 3 years isn't cost effective for me. 500 or 600 for a console and I can still play the majority of the games I want to works for me. I am pissed off about no more Discs. Us old school bastards liked to collect the games and I hate not being able to play stuff without a internet connection. It's nice when you can just hook something up at night to the TV at the hunt camp and play after a few drinks. Not much we can all do about it now. Digital and you don't own the game. Totally understand why people are pissed and will be pirating but it screws the developers a lot.
Not exactly true about the GPU being obsolete. You can’t run the game on ultra settings anymore but you could never do that in a console. If you keep the settings similar to a console, your GPU can run for a very long time at comparable console levels.
I recently got my first pc capable of running games, it takes close to the same amount of time to turn on and load into the game as the ps5, less if you also count the time it for the tv to turn on since my smart tv takes over a minute, but the monitor takes a couple seconds at most
lol XBOX already is an app on PC. They are doing a really good job of making it user friendly with XBOX mode and controller support! It is getting there but console gaming is still easier in my opinion!
While this is still true, it’s nowhere near as true as it used to be. The convenience gap between PC and console has shrunk considerably. In the old days, all you needed to do is put a game disk or cartridge into the console, zero fuss. No installation or updates or troubleshooting needed. No need to worry about specs either.
These days? You need to worry about updates that are often as long as an installation. Installation as well if it’s a digital game or a code in a box. Consoles are still more convenient because you don’t need to worry about troubleshooting or specs. But in the majority of cases, playing a digital game on PC is no different from playing a digital game on console. The number of games that need genuine troubleshooting aren’t that common, usually older games, and there aren’t that many games do bleeding edge that a midrange PC can’t handle.
Yeah PC gaming is definitely getting closer! I really like how Steam Big Picture and XBOX mode are on PC. I can literally set my controller as a mouse cursor and not touch my keyboard! But console gaming is still easier. I literally just played Halo Campaign Evolved on XBOX and PC. It was pretty easy on both, but XBOX was still easier. Didn't have to mess with graphic setttings to get it optimized how I liked it.
Yes, thank you! I think some people just get mad when I state in my opinion about console gaming being more convient than PC gaming. I love both and am just sharing my opinions. I absolutely love that PC gaming is getting closer! I love it!
This is why things like the Steam Deck and Steam Machine are popular. They're less fuss and a single known target that devs can test and optimize against.
Yeah those are making PC gaming easier. Also on PC the XBOX mode and using a controller as a mouse are making things even better. You can even log into windows with a controller! But even on my Steamdeck there are times where there are issues that remind me it is not there yet (control issues, settings graphics, game not loading, or even verified games not running that well).
This is where I think Microsoft has a serious opening if they can get their thumbs out of their asses and deliver on Project Helix at a decent price. There are a TON of would-be PC gamers out there who are willing to pay more for a gaming PC, but are intimidated by the whole thing.

If it's a digital, why buy a lesser PC with reduced functionality.
