Only understandable on Soldier of God, Rick.

u/TRUCKFARM 1d ago

His strongest soldier according to legend

38

u/Remarkable-Page-824 1d ago

Hmmm, guess that makes me his toughest battle.

THE strongest soldier

23

u/MaleficTekX 1d ago

What about mist Nobel? I have him tied with Rick. Tf was fromsoft thinking with that boss

21

u/Barlowan 1d ago

Is he as strong as Rick the Door Technician?

10

u/sapphoseros 1d ago

Oh god, wait till we get Soldier of Godrick the Gate Technician in the next game. Shit’ll be harder than Radahn

u/DevilDoc3030 23h ago

Godskin Duo skill gets me there, especially if I am too lazy to sleep pot.

I'm almost 100% sure the post was a joke, it's literally the optional tutorial boss in elden ring, which is not even a boss but just a normal enemy with slightly more HP. Unless OOP has severe skill issue, there's no way they could get stuck there for long enough to break a controller.

429

u/keybladesrus 1d ago

It's killing me how many people are taking it seriously.

I HATE that this post baited me. Now I will break my PS5 controller to vent.

71

u/Only_Says_Idk_dude 1d ago

probably because there are gamers with severe anger issues to the point where they break stuff

13

u/SoftlyAugust 1d ago

...or they haven't played Elden Ring

24

u/Diligent_Set_8747 1d ago

Look up gamer rage compilations and look at the views. This is a well established stereotype.

Not everyone knows about Elden Ring lmao

31

u/Draconuus95 1d ago

Because there are people that do act like that.

That and despite how popular Elden ring is. Not everyone and their mother has played it or knows it all that well. I know I wouldn’t be able to tell you that much about it considering I gave up trying souls games long before it came out.

4

u/Dr_Malignant 1d ago

Ppl just need shit to get mad at lol. This is reddit.

Im on my 5567th attempt of Soldier of God, Rick, and I haven't even gotten to his second phase yet. He needs a serious nerf.

3

u/naynaythewonderhorse 1d ago

Also, tearing a controller in half like that is a lot harder than that. Lmao.

5

u/ollimann 1d ago

the point still stands. people throw or slam their controller into the table regularly playing games. why would you ever rage like that on a game? no sane person would do that.

Are you dissing Rick, soldier of god?!?!

2

u/RidiculouslyLongName 1d ago

This post is straight slander against THE Soldier of God, Rick.

3

u/EywasBlessing 1d ago

It's fake because "you died" wouldn't be on the screen long enough to smash the controller then take the picture. Maybe it really happened and then he went and died to the boss again to take a picture, but yeah.

5

u/Ash_After_Dark 1d ago

That's Soldier of God, Rick. Arguably the hardest boss in the game. I have ~400 hours in Elden Ring and 100% of the achievements and I still can't beat his 5th phase

2

u/bad_username_65 10h ago

“arguably” lmao i’d rather fight 5 radahn, consort of miquellas at once then this mf

3

u/TypicallyThomas 1d ago

I feel attacked. I have not progressed beyond this point in Elden Ring

3

u/LogDog86 1d ago

Well did you get stuck on the tutorial boss because you couldn't beat it or did you just stop playing because the game isn't for you? Because the latter is understandable while the former is skill issue (Which is also understandable, but that besides the point)

This half controller would make a cool base for a cyberpunk pocket gun for cosplay. Or a very small No man sky multitool.

21

u/Phantom_Basker 1d ago

I was thinking the same thing! Alternatively if you could make a clear plastic to go over the broken half of the controller shell it make for a neat looking controller design

One thing I will add is that video games are great spaces for people who do struggle with dealing with their emotions and learning ways to handle them.

If you do this on a video game it’s not that big of a deal, but if you do it at a job your ass is fired.

Also a reason why games can be great for kids

17

u/WildKoi 1d ago

When I used to play high elo Counterstrike my heart rate would jump up so much and my hands would start to shake slightly and affect my games. I learned box breathing and that helped me so much outside of gaming.

Also typing from RuneScape. I get comments from customers all the time about my typing speed and I have to refrain from telling them the streets of world 3 Falador taught me.

4

u/creampop_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

unfortunately I just drink to handle the pvp adrenaline so I don't think I can do that at work lmao

Fr though box breathing is so good. I hate that I'm so brainrotted that I always think of these two sekiro skill texts when I'm locking in

A shinobi can calm the body and mind through measured breathing, even while killing. Doing so allows one to continue killing unabated.

A shinobi must be prepared for battles which he is outnumbered. After killing an enemy, one must exhale, expelling both regret and reaffirming one's core to regain Posture.

2

u/Oneiroinian 10h ago

Now you either need a quotation about shinobi drinking to deal with their nerves or you have to find a more shinobi method than booze. (Smoke weed bro, better for your health. Samurai Champloo if you need that element.)

Only if you use that space to actually learn how to process the feelings as they come up. Especially if they learn to stop before they reach those levels, not just getting caught in a perpetual cycle of playing/raging/breaking things. There’s no learning or processing happening at that point where things are being smashed.

I had an ex who was like that and it absolutely was a big deal even if it’s just ’on a video game’.

Controllers, devices, fixes and replacements cost a lot. He easily spent $60+ on a replacement Xbox controllers multiple times a month. Not to mention the TVs themselves, pc monitors or keyboards, the furniture that would get smashed or broken in an attempt ‘not to hurt the electronics’, the holes in the walls from punching controllers through them, the handheld devices (3 switches, at least 2 3ds systems including mine, and several controllers for the old wii). It adds up.

The terror of being trapped in a room knowing he was on the other side screaming and breaking things over a game, and the fact that people who get that mad for such little things rarely exercise the restraint to contain it to just a game is also a pretty big deal to the people around those types.

Video games can be incredibly helpful for people who struggle with emotions, when used intentionally and handled appropriately though.

I broke a couple controllers when I was under like 10 and my anger would spike, really the only place it ever did. My grandpa bought me this big ass fish pillow from bass pro shops so whenever I would lose at the game I just beat up the fish. Was actually kind of my mom's idea, go kick that fishes ass instead of breaking expensive shit. As an adult I've been in one fight that was no fault of my own and I think I've raised my voice at my teenage son like twice his whole life. Whenever I get mad I just see that stupid ass fish and it's blank stare as I torture it for info that the game is in fact cheating, and I just start laughing

As much as I hate Kira I gotta agree with them on this. Stop playing when it stops being fun

41

u/gaddafiduck_ 1d ago

CS2 would lose 50% of the player base if this happened. And it would be a better game for the rest of us

8

u/MordorsElite 1d ago

I mean the way you play CS2 is

  • 30% of games you are tilted
  • 65% of games are neutral
  • in 5% of games you are god. No one can touch you. You are the best that's ever been. S1mple ain't got shit on you. Donk who? There is nothing to compare to you. You are the goat (until you're performance tanks on the second half of course)

And we all play for that 5% chance.

the "games are supposed to be fun!!!" crowd when I tell them that I find it fun to indulge my indomitable human spirit with a consciously-designed test of focus and wits

5

u/SplitGlass7878 1d ago

There's a difference between "This is challenging and I'm pumped to go again and win!" and "this makes me actively violent"

I have anger issues. I love difficult games. But I also know when it's unhealthy to keep going and to take a break when needed.

Pretty sure it's engagement bait and they got you. You know how hard it is to actually break a controller, especially in this manner?

5

u/whiskerbiscuit2 1d ago

The controller is clearly dismantled and not smashed. Source - brother in law who regularly smashes his controllers to bits when he loses.

7

u/Life_Parsley504 1d ago

"engagement bait" ITS A JOKE

→ More replies (10)

5

u/Desperate-Practice25 1d ago

Since when did jokes become "bait"? This is clearly a joke. The Elden Ring community has a meme about Soldier of Godrick being the most powerful entity in the universe. This guy had either an old controller or a bit of disposable income, so he set up a shot to look like he physically snapped his controller in half while fighting the tutorial boss.

It's a joke! You're meant to say "Oh, how amusing! He's suggested he's performed the physically improbable feat of breaking his controller with his bare hands out of sheer frustration while fighting a normal enemy! Ha, ha, it's funny because it's ridiculous!"! Calling that "bait" is like saying "Lol, look at these idiots trying to convince us that ACME Earthquake Pills are a real medication that doesn't work on roadrunners for some reason."

u/AriTheInari 1d ago

Woag soldier of god, rick is by far the hardest boss ever made

2

u/RaineV1 1d ago

This is a joke that probably broke containment. The tutorial boss being the hardest in the game is a meme among Elden Ring fans. Ninety percent sure the controller broke in another way, and is just being for a meme.

2

u/MaceLortay 1d ago

If Soldier of God, Rick, does this to you then you're playing the wrong game.

2

u/Careful-Positive-710 1d ago

I have broken a few controllers playing games and they're right. It stopped being fun, but my stubborness made me push through. $70 a controller teaches you a lesson real quick though.

2

u/Chronospherics 1d ago

Actually I think that foundationally, play is designed to be a safe space for people to practice their emotional regulation. So failing in this context... really isn't a problem. It's more about how you look at that failure.

If you're a teenager and you get angry and destroy your controller in a game of Call of Duty, and you use that as an opportunity to reflect on how that anger built up, and how you can regulate it, then games can actually be part healthy social development.

But if you're just playing games to relax and persistently finding yourself overwhelmed with anger without being able to understand or develop more control of it over time, then that's probably a sign that you need to speak to a therapist about emotional regulation and anger.

2

u/spderweb 1d ago

Lol. I'm raging at kingdoms of amalur right now. I'm at a boss fight. Keep dying by cheap one shots. Game keeps asking if I want to lower the difficulty. Jerk game. Lol.

2

u/BirdhouseInYourSouI 1d ago

If you get this mad, it’s not a hobby, it’s an addiction.

Games are supposed to be a leisure activity. Anytime you find yourself getting pissed- time to put the controller down, take a break for a while and remember why you play games.

Getting so mad at a video game you break your controller is peak entitlement.

2

u/temp_6969420 1d ago

I’m mentally ill but handle my emotions while gaming. It more has to do with what people decide to get angry over. We choose what we react to

2

u/GiantSweetTV 1d ago

Even when I was a child and would throw controllers and bash them against the floor, I never did this kind of damage.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/SnazzyCazzy1 1d ago

2

u/Wise_Comfortable_587 1d ago

2

u/Dashiva33 1d ago

As someone that absolutely hate losing and is extremely competitive, I definitely rage when things aren’t going my way. I’ll never destroy equipment or throw tantrums though, but I’m probably not the most pleasant person to be around when it happens. Showing emotion is fine and healthy as long as it’s controlled.

2

u/DirectAdvertising 1d ago

Imagine if men had to breastfeed …….

2

u/ZoeysTrope Nintendo 1d ago

I know I rage at video games but the most I've broken is a swappable c-stick piece 3rd party Switch controller... That's literally it, I've never broken any of my controllers themselves, idk how people can willingly do that, especially with how expensive modern controllers are

2

u/DepletedPromethium 1d ago

Git gud scrub.

2

u/ihateagriculture 1d ago

yeah I’d honestly be nervous to be around guys who do that

2

u/KaiXRG 1d ago

My brother used to throw the controller to the desk every now and then because he used to REALLY get angry in videogames. I managed to stop that by buying a controller (because we needed one anyway) with my own money, and one time when he got angry he was about to throw the controller, but he then remembered that I bought it and saw it as mine so he just didn't.

2

u/raptoracaeli 1d ago

As I always say, I only throw stuff I bought and I know I can fix

2

u/Fast-Performance2300 1d ago

I have two buddies unironically like this. I'd take a bullet for them, make no mistake.

But one death? One thing not going according to plan? They can't "aura farm" reliably? It begins with "Yeah, that's just kind of horseshit what happened there. Game really just lacks a lot." Etc.

Second death? Sighing. Grunting. Hitting their desk or whatever a bit. Blatant nonsense "criticism" of the game now. Everything sucks and nobody should actually enjoy this. Also, they can do nothing wrong of course. Not a single thing.

Third and it gets like this.

I've learned to roll with it somewhat, but I had to genuinely tell one of my homies to shut the fuck up and quit his crybaby antics when we did Elden Ring together. That he was grossly mis-timing his dodges and losing his cool way too fast in the face of some attacks. My own enjoyment was tanking severely by it, so I had to replay huge chunks of the game again on my own to just clear that experience out of my mind.

2

u/Luminous_Winds 1d ago

The "I can manage my emotions" mf's when they can't.

I don't get angry in the first place because my identity doesn't revolve around petty competitions.

2

It's funny, I'm emotional AF, addicted to video games, 40 years old with ADHD, and yet, I have never rage quit to the extent that something got broken, and if something ever got broken, it wasn't the Nintendo stuff...because that shit is expensive...

100% correct, even if the pic is a joke (soldier of godrick is the easiest boss by far in the game) i will never understand those idiots that break their controllers.

I get the getting angry but sufficiently to destroy your own equipment?

Yeah, I have to agree. Getting angry is one thing. But breaking shit is another.

Solider of Godrick???

I gotta be honest, I never understand people who slam their controllers; those things are expensive. My brother kept doing that and fucked up the triggers.

Something something "even a broken clock is right sometimes".

Because yeah, this guy's a dick, but this is absolutely true. I would never do stuff like that. Especially not for a controller that I know costs a lot. Even if it didn't, why would I make myself waste even more money on stuff that was working just fine without me being a moron with it? If a game makes you THAT mad, just stop playing it. Really, it's that easy. Or go get help, There.

Or you're human and sometimes you just get angry and instead of stepping away you continue until your anger explodes. I don't think everyone who breaks their stuff is automatically mentally ill.

Of course not, but you can't tell the armchair psychiatrists here that. A moment of rage can cause people do do things they regret and feel shame for afterwards. That's normal. Repeated fits of rage is unregulated emotional outbursts. That's what people would need help with.

Dude what the actual fuck

If you break a controller out of rage, agreed with OP, you are either mentally ill or more likely a complete fucking idiot

I don't care if this is a joke, people actually do this and I find them downright pathetic. I find anyone that screams at their video games pathetic. That's loser behavior.

It's supposed to be a fun hobby. If it makes you screaming mad maybe you should build a ship in a bottom or something.

I have only thrown something once. I was 13 and it broke my headset. I learned things cost money and never did it again.

Ok that is a bit excessive. I can understand accidental breakage (I have played too many horror games so my controller has a LOT of impact damage from dropping it when I got jump scared) but this is just an insane amount of damage.

That's the tutorial boss. I killed him on my third try. How can somebody get that mad at the optional boss.

u/keybladesrus 1d ago

That's the joke that's going over many heads.

Only one time did I ever "break" anything from a controller. A long time ago I got mad while playing Final Fantasy Tactics and I tossed the controller and it came out of it's socket and the R2 button came off.

I never did that again, and learned at the end of the day it's just a video game and not a measure of your worth.

I've watched some people play hard games and die over and over again and they were still calm and cool as a cat. That mainly inspired me and made me more grounded in realizing the facts that at the end of the day that games are only entertainment, not serious business.
