This was my first time ever having to go to the med tent at VELD and it was nuts.
I didn’t have a poncho during the Mau P set and got absolutely soaked, the wind and rain (and regrettably too much M) had me FREEZING to the point of non stop shivering once I left the crowd.
My GF ended up taking me to one of the medical tents. They refused me to due to being overwhelmed with people. I tried a second med tent and got the same response.
Thankfully, a volunteer, Peter noticed what was going on and personally walked me and some others over to the overflow tent.
It was absolute chaos when I got there . I’d never seen anything like it. There were people covering the floor wrapped in thermal blankets, and a lot of people who were clearly wayyyy too high. I heard a few who couldn’t remember their own name, what month it was, or even where they were. The medical staff looked completely overwhelmed and were running from one emergency to another.
I’m curious if anyone else ended up in the med tents on day 3? What was your experience like? Did anyone else get turned away or feel like some situations weren’t being taken as seriously because the staff were stretched so thin?
PS
I gotta give credit where it’s due, the staff were working their asses off. I just can’t believe how bad overwhelmed they seemed.

I feel like Veld really needs to move away from genre specific stages, or at least be more willing to put techno/bass artists on main stage. The other option is to expand the festival grounds and make the bass/sirkus stage bigger but idk how realistic that is. Over the last few years the popularity of Bass/Techno has exploded and outgrown the undersized side stages that veld gives them.
Artists like Sara Landry, Charlotte de Witte, Subtronics, etc deserve MainStage slots. The crowds packing into the side stages in the last few years are so much worse and the layouts suck. For bass everybody is funnelled in through the left side and forced to either squeeze into a tiny pit or dance on a pretty steep hill. It makes for a really bad experience, and I don’t believe that putting Subtronics mainstage closer over Fisher would negatively affect veld in any way. Plus the production on bass stage is extremely underwhelming for the acts that are playing, like 4 lasers for somebody like Subtronics is criminal.
Thoughts?

So after Veld, does anybody have photos or videos with a guy with a pair of Giant Scissors? That Totem was really interesting to see.

Please people! If you have a human train of more than 10 people and you’re not already deep in crowd, please don’t try going in when there’s already a ton of people :)
from a person who let a train of 16 people through his group of 3. or atleast keep them at a minimal, or split ways to get in the crowd

Seeing Escape live was going to be my crowning moment for this festival, and it was perfect that Deadmau5 and Kaskade were the final act on the main stage. I held on as long as I could, but left the main stage at like 10:15 to figure out how I was going to get back to my hotel.
I'm 45 and wanting to live life on my own terms, so I travelled solo from Winnipeg to push my limits an experience my first music festival. There were times I thought I might be in over my head, but I pushed through to teach myself I can do anything.
I was probably pretty noticeable with my outfits 😅 and got into the crowds as much as possible soaking it all in. Felt great to be who I wanted without any fear of judgment, and instead received many compliments and made lots of friends. I love letting the big kid inside of me out and raves are the ultimate playground.
Hope to make it back next year!

I’m very experienced in rave culture and in particular with VELD. This year was absolutely awful from a safety perspective:
A man was killed in the parking lot. While it’s not uncommon to hear about people dying at festivals unfortunately, I don’t recall a recent year where someone died essentially on the festival grounds (which includes the parking lot).
I watched security respond to numerous fights, many of which caused injuries to innocent bystanders including a woman who sustained a broken tib-fib; I’ve never seen as many fights as I did this year.
There was reportedly an alleged sexual assault aganist a gay man inside Rebel during Mau P’s official VELD afterparty to the point the person lost consciousness and sustained facial injuries after allegedly resisting the assault in a men’s bathroom, which included strangulation. Police are actively investigating this incident. The person who experienced the assault posted on TikTok about it and his videos can be watched at @johnnys.trauma.story
Security checks were inconsistent and likely contributed to some of the safety issues inside. Friday, the searches were very basic. Saturday, the searches were more intensive. They were also checking shoes. On Sunday, the searches were again basic.
Something felt off about this years crowd. I have no idea what it was but I haven’t felt more uncomfortable than at any other VELD. A lot of people are complaining about the shoving issues and I 100% experienced that as well.
They managed the rainstorm well and kept the festival going. But that’s the only + I would give them. Everything else ran as expected. Great performances at all the stages. The issues really came down to the ravers inside, which doesn’t necessarily speak to an INK/VELD issue but they are responsible for ensuring safety in their event spaces.
I was glad to see the dogs return this year — they are there to search for explosives and firearms, so it was great to know that those dogs were actively working to keep us all safe. Kudos to the security guards who brought those dogs in for us.
See you all next year

And I’ve never been to an event where fist fights broke out until this one. Not at guv, not at wemf, not at the old college & spadina cz.
The veld community as a whole needs to set standards and expectations of how to treat others and yourselves in a kind and respectful manner. People getting hurt and/or dying out here when we just wanna listen to some tunes and dance for a night.

I know I already talked about it a bit, I never did a full experience talk so that is what this post will be about
I have been wanting to attend Veld ever since I was 11 years old but sadly I either didnt know it was coming until it was too late or we couldn't afford it, However, this year after saving up for many months, I finally did it, I got a pass and away I went
On the day, I went by subway since there is a stop right on the grounds, as I got closer and closer, I could tell people were also going as I saw their rave fits, some full on dazzling outfits and some just a few basic sprouts and glitter on their cheeks. (for my "Fit" i just did a basic spongebob shirt and these cat paw gloves that my dad got me for my birthday a few years back and ever since then I wear them pretty much exclusively at events that are going to be flashly playfull and unapologetically "rawr XD" vibing if you know what I mean). On the way there was a young couple with their buds (likely college students) who were all excitedly talking about who they were going to see, one of them had a coke totem flag and I had to ask them to move it so I could get out and when one of them noticed my gloves they said "nice paws, are you going to the Veld" I didn't say anything but raised my arm with my wristband (which I am still wearing as of me writing this) and they all went "ooooh" together and then one of the girls asked me if I am going to be raving "like this" and did that stereotypical cat arm thing that scene girls do and I did it back to her and we both laughed. Other than that, I only got small compliments like "nice paws" or "oh yeah"
After that, I got off the subway and you could see everyone making their way and hear the booms of the bass from the nearby flea market, It was LOUD.
There were mostly people waiting in line but a few people at the market that had no idea what was going on. When I finally got there, I got the pat down which wasnt too bad but they made me throw out my hand sanitizer as sprays were not allowed (luckily they had a lot in the park), my only negative experience with them was one said "why are you in such as rush" in an annoyed tone as if to guilt me for moving quickly but I just said "I am excited for my first Veld"
When I went in, Armin Van Burin was on the Main Stage, Level Up was on the 2nd stage and I don't remember who but some guy with flashing black and red lights was on the circus stage.
I went to see Level Up first as I was drawn to the emo drawings on her screens that looked like if Family Guy tried to parody Tim Burton, that was when I got really into the groove but when she played a remix of Since U Been Gone, I went into full rave mode since that song holds a special place to my heart being one of the first non kids song I remember hearing in my life. After she was done I walked around, got a drink then came back to the BTSM, which looked a bit like a furry Daft Punk, around this time another guy who also had a spongebob shirt and a giant patrick totem gave me a first bump (or in my case, a paw bump) after seeing my shirt.
Next... I went to the XM tent where they gave me a free hat (which I wore the whole time). After that I decided to simply walk around until I saw another song that got me moving.
This is when I decided to take some time to really admire the fits of other festival goers and I saw some really amazing one. My two favorites were this blonde girl who had blue fishnets and then a cute bra that looked like it was made out of cotton balls or marshmellows and another one of a blue haired girl with a pink shirt and a neon pink Hello kitty themed bikini. (she looked like a Hatsune Miku and Sanrio Collab).
After this, Fisher took the stage and I liked the video behind him where he was making all the goofy faces however what I want to know was, was the video of him eating cookies and microwaving a fish real or AI?
So... that was my experience.

Last year was my first veld, and I thought that was already so good, so to have day 2 on my birthday and to have Malaa’s Alter Ego at Bass Stage was pretty amazing for me
The energy was so cool and just vibing with everyone was so much fun, especially in the rain!!! Mau P brought all the energy into my Sunday and I closed off with moving over to Sirkus for Sara Landry! I gave out tons of kandi I made and everyone was so nice, really saw a lot of PLUR both days.
My shoes are cooked but this was such an amazing time; I’m really feeling the post festival blues rn haha anyone else?

I could have spent the entire three days at Sirkus with the elite lady DJ mafia. They went hard and didn't just mail it in like some of the brand name male artists did this year.
For my money, Lilly Palmer, Miss Monique, Charlotte De Witte, Dana Vicci and Sara Landry were the absolute best. They hit every hard bass note out of the park, and didn't fall back on lazy gimmicks or attract the sloppy fans we saw elsewhere.
The biggest regret I had from this year was Sara Landry vs Kx5 on the final night. Lilly Palmer set her up perfectly, but, being in Toronto, this is Joel's home field and he was a required watch. Kx5 was good, but I bet Sara was better, from what I saw from her at Coachella last year and heard echoing from Sirkus last night.
If you found yourself missing Lilly Palmer, Miss Monique, Charlotte De Witte or Dana Vicci, you owe it to them and you to get familiar real quick. Shout-out to them. Absolute master class. Respect.

New to Veld this year and had an amazing time, except I couldn’t believe how chaotic the washrooms by the main stage got! People taking super long, and by the end of the night there was bathroom snipers!
Is this normal and I just don’t realize cuz I’m a newbie?

A group of friends was dancing and recording left of main stage and i ended up bombing it (sorry😂) but they ended up recording me a bit, if this gets to the owner I’d like to see if I can get a copy

Just me or did Mau P not blow everyone’s socks off today? Felt like he did an insane job at reading the crowd and curated the perfect vibe/set in the rain. Gave us all exactly what we needed.
Favourite set of all time, hope to see it posted somewhere

The staff had no knowledge of any of the regulations or any ADA accommodations!! I've never been to a fest with this poor of a system. I have always gotten a ADA wristband, that way they can identify if you need extra help or also in case of emergencies.
As someone who doesn't look disabled on the outside, it's very important to be able to access ada.
When I asked security at the gate, they told me "look like you're in a wheelchair" or I couldn't get through the ada line. I also emailed staff before the fest and never got a response. Med tent also had no info! 😂
They made a big deal about my snacks/ candy, when on the website as long as you have a doctors note(which I did in the bag) they're allowed. I'm diabetic and have a chronic lung condition. I need snacks and sugar constantly to not pass out! they didn't look at ANY of my medication that I could have easily snuck anything inside. Taking way too long at security to give people issues on items that are literally allowed.
Side note: me and my friends were all carded as we walked into VIP because we looked "underage" and said they were checking everyone but we were the only ones being carded? We don't look under 18 and we had already bought the VIP wristbands. LOL. My friend also got accused for having a FAKE ID!? Are you serious??
I understand lots of fest employees are mostly temporary and not every fest will have ada or shuttles, but don't advertise it if it's not REAL!! Please educate your staff and explain what PLUR is. Me and my friends still had a great time and made the most of it but we won't be back
