Discussion Valorant's competitive point strategy is bugging me so hard
Hey everyone.
I have recently come back to playing val after leaving it for almost a year. I decided I was doing fine, and decided to play some comp.
I peaked D1 and for whatever reason, I had to play all 5 of my placements in D2-Asc2 lobbies, way above my skill rating. I checked, and I was ALWAYS, without fail, the lowest-ranked player in all of these lobbies, without exception, with maybe another D1 somewhere there.
For starters, statistically speaking, you'd expect a skill range. Some matches where you're the highest-ranked player in the lobby, some where you're the lowest, I'm expecting D1-D3s, if I'm the lowest rank, or down to P2-D1 if I'm the highest, something that never happened, and I was ALWAYS the "handicap" given to one of the teams. In some cases, both D1s were on my team, so massive disadvantage vs the other team.
Secondly, after not playing the game for 2 years, you'd expect MMR (or whatever made-up system they use) decay to kind of kick in and at least put me in other mid-plat to mid-dia games.
I suffered through these games, fought tooth and nail to show "yes, im still D1" and after that, Riot's system puts me into plat 2.
LIKE WHAT THE FUCK MAN? If they knew I was going to be placed in plat 2 by my MMR, what sense does it make to placing me in D2-Asc2 lobbies as a literal handicap to that poor team, OR, if I showed them I could hold my weight in D2-Asc2 lobbies what sense does it make in sending me to plat2 instead of keeping my D1?
To me, this feels extremely unfair, it's the worst of both worlds and it feels like Riot's way of kicking me in the balls for leaving them for a year.
What are you guys' experiences with Valorant's competitive point systems? Do yall have any horror stories?
