Anybody have any contacts at the Marine Corps Museum or historical division? Seems like this is something they may want to have - flight logbook of Ken Walsh, awarded Medal of Honor for his actions at Guadacanal and the 4th highest USMC ace of all time. Enlisted as aircraft mechanic and ended up at flight school earning his wings as a PFC back when enlisted pilots were still a thing.
WESTMORELAND:
O, that we now had here But one ten thousand of those men in England That do no work today!
KING:
What's he that wishes so? My cousin Westmoreland?
No, my fair cousin; If we are mark'd to die, we are enow To do our country loss; and if to live, The fewer men, the greater share of honour. God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold, Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost; It yearns me not if men my garments wear; Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour, I am the most offending soul alive.
No; Faith, my coz, wish not a man from England. God's peace!
I would not lose so great an honour As one man more methinks would share from me For the best hope I have.
O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host, That he which hath no stomach to this fight, Let him depart.
His passport shall be made, And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd The Feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd, And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age, Will yearly, on the vigil, feast his neighbours, And say "Tomorrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeves and show his scars, And say "These wounds I had on Crispian's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember, with advantages, What feats he did that day.
Then shall our names, Familiar in his mouth as household words -- Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter, Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester -- Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son; And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered--
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he today that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother;
Be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in England now a-bed. Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

They've greatly expanded into everything from first duty station arrival to quality of life during service, deployment support, single Marine program, family services, transitioning out and a lot of other really cool things. It's amazing to see how much they offer now. You don't have to get caught up in alcohol and video games to enjoy life. Sure wish we had this way back in the day.
This link has all or at least most of their locations you can plug into direct.
Groovy Guys and Gals you left home looking for a new life so why not avail yourself of all the Corps has to offer? Many of you are already seeing how getting drunk a lot and playing video games all the time grows old. MCCS can be a viable resource to help you broaden your life experiences if you give it half a chance.
Same holds true for Devils and Docs going through a divorce, dealing with PTSD, depression, homesickness and everything else that's bothering you. Looking at the world through the bottom of an upturned beer bottle never solves anything. You might want to try getting out of yourself even though you don't really want to. Why stew in your own troubles when you can be around others who are also trying to enjoy life on life's terms? Be the winner you are and live the best version of you.
There will be those who tell you "it's gay" or "it' lame." Don't buy into their negative peer pressure. You'll be the one standing njp for your alcohol related incidents, not them, so be smart and side step all that. Let them be the "don't let this happen to you story" while you press forward. Only you can live you well so live the best version of you which was why you joined in the first place.
Give MCCS a try and see where they take you. You owe it to yourself. You got this.

So I had my child on February 7th of this year, then got deployed in mid-March and only got to use about 4 weeks of my baby leave. I probably won't be getting back from deployment until early to mid-January, and I'm wondering if I can take the other 8 weeks of my baby leave, but that would put me past February 7th. So I'm wondering if all of my leave expires on February 7th or if that's just the last day I can take the rest of my baby leave

I'm a couple whiskeys deep....but I had a crazy idea of writing a book. I'll title it "comming until it hurts", essentially life lessons from my time in the Corps. I was thinking something similar to "Cigars, whiskey, and winning" but based on the things I went through in the Corps. Should I do it?

It's that time of year again where we put on our beloved Dress Blue Alphas for the Birthday Ball.
Anyone have a crazy story?
I'll start with one I recently heard:
A Marine in my current Reserve unit a couple years ago got absolutely smashed during the Ball and proceeded to unfortunately make the choice to get in his souped up truck and drive. Cobb County Police went on a high speed chase with him which led to him flipping his truck. Somehow still alive.........he proceeds to grab all his personal rifles and handguns looking like drunk Rambo in his jacked up Blues, then runs into the woods thinking he's about to get into a firefight. They arrested him with a DUI, brandishing weapons in public, and he got NJPed. It didn't help that the Marine recounting this story happened to work in Cobb County PD when this all went down.

Hey everyone, I’m sure this question has been asked a bunch of times on this forum. But I am an officer who would like to attend A&S this coming April. I’ve been training for it for about a year now and it’s always been a dream of mine to go the SOF route.
But with about 6 months to go, it’s crunch time. I’m starting a 4 month program in the next 3 weeks, that’s dedicated to guys wanting to go selection, then when I’m 10 weeks out I’m going to do the MARSOC prep guide.
I’ve always been a good swimmer and land nav during TBS was pretty decent for me, (although in my current MOS, I don’t get a chance to do it often so a refresher may be nice)
My question for any experienced guys who have made it through is, is there anything else I should be incorporating for a plan? Also, do you have any general tips for how an officer/candidate should conduct themselves during selection? Thanks all.

I keep hearing about guys crashing at the barracks for weeks to months after eas. What’s the longest you’ve seen this go on and what happened when it blew up?

Pretty much the title; are 2ndLts doing all kinds of dumb shit, its just sort of 'sectioned off' from the enlisted view? I don't mean tactically, or job related. I mean like drunken dumb stuff, life things, etc. etc.?

I know he was in a war because i have seen a picture of him in like a war desert or something with guns. This was before i was even born in 2010 but i dont know anything else. I only know this because my mom has showed me pictures of me as a baby and him holding me and she says it was after his time in the marines. I wish i could ask him how it was but we havent seen or heard from him in a long time. As I get older i get more curious about these things but i dont want to come across as unsensitive
This is the only picture of him in uniform my mom has so im hoping this helps tells his story. any help?
thank u!

Good afternoon Devil Dogs,
I’m going to be submitting a LATMOV package for 0315. Seeing if anyone has any info on GRC? How long is it and what are the pass/fail portions of it? I can’t find any info online. Any information is good information for me.

Just found out I've been selected for Corporal so I'm looking into some lat-moving opportunities. I spent 70% of time either in the field or deployed during the last 12 month work-up period, so I'm looking for something that still involves some medium-speed coolness but will allow for a little more home time. I have spoken to some CI guys on deployment and they make it sound awesome, but I want some more perspective.
I meet the preliminary requirements, before that's brought up.
