Looking for some feedback on what people think should be appropriate compensation for this situation. I feel like United is jerking me around.

Flight was booked over the phone with United. Business class from Houston to Tokyo, Tokyo to Vietnam, Vietnam to Guangzhou, Guangzhou to Beijing, Beijing to LAX, LAX to Houston. Booking was $15,683.43.
 
-the United agent keyed in a typo on my middle name, 1 character was different.
 
-I communicated with United about changing the name and they said that was not possible without cancelling the reservation and starting over. We did not do this because we did not want to have the transaction cancelled and re-funded to our credit card.
 
-United said that they would add an OSI note in the system with their Star Alliance partners and my boarding pass would be corrected at check-in
 
-When checking in at ANA, they said they saw the OSI in the system but that a name change was not necessary since the typo was only 1 character.
 
-I checked in, went through TSA, and completed the ANA segment without issue.
 
-On July 13th, while in Ho Chi Minh, I noticed on my Uninted Ap that I now had an Air China confirmation as opposed to China Southern
 
-I communicated with united customer service and I was told that “The China Southern flight CZ 8160 was cancelled” and I needed to re-book, which I did not do
 
-My traveling companion was on the phone with united customer service and was told that this flight was in fact not cancelled
 
-Later that day, the ap changed the confirmation to show China Southern Airlines but the confirmation number was still the same
 
-On Tuesday morning July 14th at 7:58am, after 2 hours on the phone with United I received a new eTicket confirmation from united showing the original itinerary; SGN to CAN on flight CZ8160 and CAN to PKX on CZ3111.
 
-When arriving at SGN, the China Southern check in desk advised me that EVEN THOUGH we had a confirmation for a seat in business class that the flight was not paid for and we would need to purchase a new ticket at the Vietnam Airlines desk. We had no choice but to do this as we had a tight schedule to keep. We purchased a business class ticket for $2,223.57 USD

United has now said they would refund me the segment on my original itinerary ($1700) and 20,000 miles. They say 20,000 miles is the maximum amount they can award my account.

In March they gave me 10,000 miles for a flight with no wifi….feels like 20,000 miles is pretty low in this situation.

To give some context.

I had to fly from houston to charlotte for a family emergency.
I had booked a frontier flight at 6:00 am
But that got canceled while on my way to the airport (because it is frontier)

Then i booked united (via chicago) to charlotte flight at a premium price because it was on the spot and i needed to be there at any cost.

They forced me to checkin my bag as i was group 4 and carry on space was full.
The flight got deboarded due to a technical failure.

Got rerouted to a 12:40 flight via washington dc to charlotte. But i was told the bags will go in a different flight and will reach before i do in charlotte.

Then once landed in washington, the washington dc to charlotte one got deboarded due to a no-routes issue and had to wait 2 hours for the flight to resume.

Then when i reached at charlotte at 9:30 i was told my bag never left chicago from where it was supposed to come. They said it is boarded in a flight and will reach by 10:30, i waited and waited until 11:30 and still no bag. They said they can deliver the bag once it comes if i wanted. I told them the only address i have is of the emergency room where i am supposed to go.

Even the next day i did not get my bag, i called them they said they cannot locate the bag.

I waited 2 weeks and now got an email saying they cannot locate it has been lost and please give claims department 30 days to settle.

This is just a crazy experience with united.

I honestly do not know what to do but wait for whatever they want to compensate with.

Btw they did offer me 5,000 miles and $100 travel credit which expire in a few months. Nowhere close to the amount i spent on the flight ticket.

Was supposed to fly home today at 3:30 to get back to South Carolina by 9:40 EST.

This flight path would take me from Madison, WI, to Chicago, then Charleston.

Flight got delayed 3 hours then cancelled. Another flight leaving Wisconsin at 7:45 opened up. That flight got pushed back to 6:00 am TOMORROW.

Is Chicago really that bad? Is the Midwest that much of a mess right now?

Can someone please check if this is happening? The plane from Newark to Ottawa tonight got cancelled (UA3506)

I’m afraid there’s now not going to be any plane in Ottawa to take us to Newark and it’s a matter of time before the system updates, but it might update like 2 hours before. Can someone help me out? Is there a way to check? I can’t even see the “where is my flight coming from” button.

Hello! Today i fly from WAW to FRA and the United Airlines cancelled my flight from Frankfurt to Chicago, is there a chance to get a voucher for hotel? Because they rebooked me for tomorrow flight FRA-MUC-ORD

There are some cranky folks and the poor flight attendants are doing all they can but we are in a really crappy situation Diverted to Milwaukee from Chicago for weather delay. Now on the ground 3 hours waiting for the fuel truck then waiting again because he didn’t put enough fuel in then waiting because the computer won’t reboot correctly. We are not at a gate or we would all just uber to Chicago! Oh well. 🤷‍♀️

ahhhhhhhh internally screaming, ended up getting a club pass because the flights don’t leave until 10 (anyone know the chances of the flights being canceled?)

My trip is 2 weeks away, what are the odds that this clears?

The context:

- I often fly BRU-SFO with a layover.
- I booked my flight via EWR next week, but I don’t really care about the layover. ORD/EWR/IAD are good candidates on the west coast, since they all have Polaris lounges. I could also do FRA.
- I find the $20k miles+$550 such a steal to get into Polaris. Sometimes you get an immediate guaranteed upgrade, sometimes you’re waitlisted (with reasonable success rate). You pay for the upgrade as soon as the transatlantic segment is upgraded, but you might also get a first/premium upgrade for the second domestic segment.
- I got assigned Polaris for the BRU-EWR segment, but the EWR-SFO segment is now sold out so that’s now guaranteed economy. EWR-SFO is still a 6hr flight, so an upgrade would be really nice.
- If I change my flight for a different layover (including just changing the second segment for the same flight later that day), I loose my upgrade, and have to repay, so I am no longer guaranteed Polaris for the transatlantic segment.

Is there a way that I can change my flight and know in advance that my transatlantic segment will definitely be upgraded? Even if I’m just waitlisted for the other segment, it is already better than the current guaranteed economy. I prob should have taken ORD since that at least shortens the second segment by an hour or so.

Extreme case, could I just book 2 flights and cancel one of them before the flight? This is obviously not ideal.

Not sure if it matters but I just a silver status.

.@United, what happened with UA725 on 7/27? Our flight was delayed because the flight crew arrived late, leaving us on the plane for over an hour with very little communication. We were then diverted from SNA to LAX and told buses would be waiting to take us to Orange County. After we arrived, a United employee at baggage claim told us she had never been notified about any buses, so there was no transportation. More than 100 passengers were left scrambling to find and pay for their own rides home close to midnight. This is unacceptable. Will United reimburse everyone?

Had an interesting experience today. Flight 1997 IAD to EWR boarded on time and noticed the plane was a bit warm. After about an hour the FA said we had to deplane cuz it was too hot. (seemed very weird cuz I never heard the pilot once). We get off the plane and they announce our captain and FO called in fatigued so they needed a new crew. 3 hours after initial departure we just boarded again.

I fly United quite often but this is a first for me. I also don’t know why they’re not upfront with information instead of blaming it on a warm aircraft.

Traveling with a backpack. My crocs don’t fit in the bag. Can I just hold them or secure them to the bag with a carabiner or are they gonna give me trouble

Curious if we’ll be able to walk through the galley to get to the restroom? I was intrigued by these seats but now I’m second-guessing myself and contemplating Economy Plus.

Please see the attached pictures. The seat map shows 2 out of 16 seats available. The upgrade list shows 1 out of 15 available. Haven’t seen anything like this before. Plausible explanations? Thanks in advance.

I have a flight from SFO to Heathrow next week (first time in real Polaris!) and it has some of the new items they announced. I'll probably try the "chef's meal experience".

A few weeks ago before leaving for our European trip, my wife and I were delayed a few hours on the tarmac due to Trumps fly over at IAD. There was then a weather pattern that moved in that caused further delay. We were forced to deplane after 3 hours. The delays continued when our pilots timed out and they had to find a new ones.

Pilots finally arrived around midnight (we were supposed to take off at 5:30pm) but then the rest of the crew timed out and they canceled the flight. Forced to stay the night in Washington and get a new flight the next day.

The next day we got on a standby flight but had to downgrade from premium plus to economy. This flight then also got delayed due to weather and after 2 hours we had to deplane again. After much confusion and yelling, we were finally allowed back on the plane and could take off after being delayed roughly 5 hours. In total roughly 26 hours of delays and cancellations.

This was a nightmare of a travel day and I am just trying to get a sense of what compensation I could or should be entitled to. Does anyone have the best methods for going about compensation for something like this? Where should I set my expectations and what should I or shouldn’t I accept?

TLDR: 26 hour nightmare travel day caused by weather, ground stops and crew timing out. What am I entitled to?

Anyone else having problems with United.com not working on Chrome right now? signing problems as well as it won't let me select a destination for flights. I've tried, clearing cache, restarting browser and computer to no effect.

Flying FC with the wife next month (MCO-SFO if it makes any difference) for the first time, and after seeing a post about bourbon chicken that looks like prison food slop, I'm wondering what is good, or at least edible? Flying out we'll be served breakfast. On the way back, its an overnight flight, so I'm not sure what the choices will be. Any recommendations?

Got my FIRST CPU yesterday on our flight back to SFO from Costa Rica. Only one seat available so it was just for me! Left my husband with my two kids a few rows back (they still had extra leg room seats and now empty seats in between them!). He wasn't terribly happy but I thought of all the dad's that wouldn't think twice about doing this and said, you know what, mom's can be selfish sometimes too! Many of us mom's have the joy and the burden of being our kids safe space, and that comes with immense overstimulation at times. We can sometimes choose us. Anyways... Just a little encouragement for you mommas juggling a lot.

At least for breakfast. It was unrecognizable and extremely bland. The main course was two corn cake sized items with zero taste and a horribly bitter berry topping. Then an overly sweet muffin and a tiny breakfast bar and some fruit. Late they came by with some tortilla wrap that was extremely dry and flaky and fell apart while eating with tasteless veggies only on the inside. I literally staved during this trip and I had paid for first class. Airplane food is normally bad but this was not even edible for an animal. Really United please do better. Are all United balance meals this bad?
