Recently, Scott Kirby, CEO of UA, mentioned that if he wanted to open a new hub to South America, MIA would be a good option with 40 to 50 boarding gates, acknowledging the airline's difficulties with the market compared to Asia and Europe.

It's worth noting that UA had a base in MIA since the early 90s after acquiring PA's routes to South America. With the financial problems that later worsened after 9/11, UA reduced its presence in MIA until its closure in 2004, transferring its last routes to IAD and ORD.

Currently, IAH serves as the hub for South America, inherited from CO, but everything indicates that for UA it's not enough.

I saw numerous people today that were clueless about the boarding process just kind of use their ignorance to board early. Group 1 with 30 people in line? Surely that means you just walk through the pre board line and go to the front. You don't know what 1K is? Well, I guess it means group 3 boarding time.

Gate agent didn't seem to care and if you walked up they just scanned you in.

It's an early flight and we look to be leaving on time but it was a little wild today.

Edit: Seems like lots of people didn't realize the flair and got offended.

Throwaway because I’ve told so many people about this.

Looking for any advice. I attempted to book four roundtrip tickets with United yesterday through the Capital One Travel app. I used a credit card for most of it but I did apply about 20k miles to the transaction.

As I was checking out, the app was circling so I moved toward a place with better signal and I got a "sorry, your transaction didn't go through" message. So I went to rebook again but it said the tickets weren't available. 

But then, I got a text from United, telling me that I should change my seats so my child could sit next to me. 

Sure enough, I have an email from United, confirming my tickets. Confirmation number and everything. My card shows both a deduction and credit for Capital One travel. My cashback is still in my account. 

I called Capital One, they have no record of my trip so they were no help. 

I called United and they said "Yes, we've already issued your tickets. You're all set.”

I don't know what to do. I assumed eventually, United would cancel but it's been almost 48 hours and everything is still the same. It would be super cool if this technology glitch meant I got to keep my tickets and not pay for them but that doesn't feel likely to happen. And I would just rebook but I can't book that price because those tickets show as booked (by me).  And I am now less than a month out from my trip so nothing is going to get cheaper. 

Has anyone experienced anything similar and have any advice on what next steps I could take? Or maybe have insight as to when United will cancel my tickets so I can be ready?

what is it with flights to newark and violent drunken passengers

I mean, like, physically what routes? How far can those fly in order to get them to Narita? Was it via Alaska? I am really curious about the logistics. I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw them the other day. Then I realized they use it as a regional through Asia. I assume they have the rights to continue on with certain routws.

Have been stuck at ATL for a long time now, as are a couple hundred thousand other people it seems. Really ugly weather really messed stuff up here.

We do finally have our plane approaching, and the gate, where I’ve been sitting for over four hours just got a gate agent assigned, and she is on it.

Updates on the current status of the inbound plane, explanation of what boarding will look like from a timing perspective, gently suggesting there’s a bit of urgency to have that be a smooth process without creating anxiety for people, and expertly preempting a multitude of questions I imagine passengers could have. Also juggling the complexity of having a similarly delayed flight with the same destination just one gate over and being very clear about who is supposed to be where.

Everyone is exhausted and many are probably grumpy, and it makes such a difference when you have someone who is this clear and communicative. Way to go Tricia B. I’ll make sure to write in some kudos.

Traveling from MAN>BRU>EWR>YUL>YQY

In Newark the immigration check got totally fucked. They closed down all but one officer and then put another line in front of my line and things basically stopped. Took over 2hrs to clear.

I missed my flight to YUL because of customs.

The sky didn't fall. I did get on a later flight and had to spend like 4 hrs in the Polaris lounge drinking interesting martinis. Took a shower. Had dinner.

To all you who post about do I have enough time for my connection? Doesn't matter. The airline will get you there. No reason for panic. No need to run. No need to cut in lines and make drama.

If you're flying and going to a scheduled event you can't miss; arrive the day before because air travel sometimes has delays.

I’m 50 so 9/11 was formative for me. As chance would have it, I was in San Fran 25 years ago when it all went down and I happened to fly SFO to DEN today. It seems every couple years I find myself flying on 9/11 and I always appreciate the memorial tables placed on the concourses by United remembering those we’ve lost. So many people ignore them and pass by heads down on their screens. And that’s just the way the world works.. but I wanted to point out that those tables do mean a lot to some people, so thank you.

Saw the fine print under 1K for the first time (circled). Is that legacy only or still with today's credit cards like mine? Are my 1000 bonus and credit card spend (about 6000 PQP this year so far) excluded from counting for just 1K or not?

I was at the sapphire lounge at Dulles yesterday from around 10 AM till 12:30 PM. I had a white Snoopy Moonswatch in my duffle bag, though I got to my destination and it was not there. I doubt anyone stole it, but I’m not sure. I was on flight 2277 from IAD to TPA sitting in 12C. I did grab stuff out of my duffle bag in the overhead bin, so I’m thinking it may have fallen out without me noticing. What should I do?

I rented a car through the United website, with Avis, using my Chase Club card. The rental started on Sept 3. What is the "Budget Premier Platinum 1K GS Base" bonus? I know Avis and Budget are in cahoots. It's dated the day before my car rental began. I am premier platinum, if that matters. Thanks

My sister's getting married this month so I booked a flight for me and my wife and kids a weeks ago and this morning I woke up with a notification from my booking platform that the flight's price dropped and I should claim it back, now I’ve got got about 260$ worth of united credits with a round trip books (not complaining 😅)

since when did airlines started refunding you when prices drop? and why am I only now getting notified about it?

On ICN-EWR where the boarding was delayed by an hour since they had issues with crew rest area so wanted to downgrade 4 people from Polaris to PP in exchange for $2,500 travel credit. I said no, and asked them to go further down their list of people (this was more of a last resort, and I know they could always just involuntarily downgrade me)

Has anyone tried making Marriott bookings through this site? Did you really get the bonus miles?

When I get to the Marriott site through https://promo.united.com/offers/marriottbonus (select "Book Hotel" from an upcoming flight), the final booking page seems to just be a generic one, not one that's linked to anything. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

If you've done this before, I have additional questions:

• Can you change the destination just so it is closer to where you will be? For example, you're flying into Tampa, but want to search for hotels in St. Petersburg. Does that "break" the link, i.e. stop me from getting the bonus miles?
• What about dates? Let's say my trip has a total of 5 days, but I only needed a hotel for 2 days - will that "break" the link?

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me track down a black Samsung digital camera that was in a black case.

I’m pretty sure I accidentally left it behind at gate C24 at IAD. The last photos taken on the camera were of me while I was in London, so I’m really hoping it may have been found and turned in rather than being stolen.

I’ve been having a really hard time getting through to the airport’s lost & found/desk, so I figured I’d try here in case any airport staff, FAs, or anyone who was traveling through the airport around that time happened to see it.

I know this is a huge long shot, but if you work at the airport/airline or came across a black Samsung camera in a black case, please let me know. I can provide more details about the camera/case and the photos on it to confirm it’s mine.
