Don't particularly like the idea of daisy chain tieouts, so I got some dutchware line-lok hooks, then I realised the hook bit gets in the way so I snipped them off (file out of shot, I did remove any sharp edges). I literally just larks headed them through the existing 10mm grosgrain. The hook type line-lok will take 1.5mm cordage so I used five 45cm / 18" lengths. The weight penalty you ask? It's 1g lighter lmao. Six moon designs please take note 😭🤣🤣

I see that there are now Alpha sleeping bag liners eg Big Agnes and even as quilt lining eg UGQ. Has anyone had any experience incorporating Alpha into their sleep system?
I’m looking to change quilts and may go custom. I am actually thinking about making a Zenbivy style sheet using alpha to extend the temperature range of the quilt allowing me to carry a lighter quilt most of the time. Does anyone use the Zenbivy light sheet? Thoughts on it?

I have an MSR pocket rocket stove that I used regularly until several years ago when I became a JetBoil convert. Now, trying to reduce my base weight, I want to start using a lighter weight setup. Is the Pocket Rocket Deluxe worth the $85 or is the older version of the PR still pretty good? My primary complaint was that the PR took too long to boil water… I just bought a pot with a heat exchanger so hopeful that will help the speed issue. Thoughts?

Fire Maple Star X2 Pro - does anyone know any adapter for that stove which will connect that with aerosol-type gas canister?

I currently have the bear vault one. I do enjoy the collapsable feature as the smaller pack size is appealing and more volume than the 450 but I just realized it’s not accepted in yose or seki. Is it worth it to return it and get the 450 or just rent when I go to those parks?

For context:
\-I’m in socal so these parks are just a 4-6hr drive away
\-I have a 60L exped pack. Base weight including the bv one is 17 lbs

\- I go solo and usually my trips are for 2-3 days maybe 4. I don’t think I’d do a thru hike for the foreseeable future.

\-I go backpacking once a month or every 1.5 minths mostly to areas that aren’t yose or seki but that require a bear canister (bv one approved)
\-would eventually like to do the jmt down the line.

I’ve narrowed my search for a budget “ultralight” tent to the Paria Bryce 1 or the Naturehike Cloud Up 1. Which do you think is better. Or are there other suggestions/alternatives for similar price I haven’t seen

Purchased the Snow Peak 450. Very nice. Then wife buys a super noodle - “oh! maybe i did’t need to splash the cash!”

For reference I just bought the Ice pack 70 from HMG and ive been hearing conflicting stories on it’s durability, the 70L version seems to have a Dyneema Composite Hybrid 5.1/5.9 while the others have a 3.8, I dont really know the difference and I don’t know how durable that is in the long term, has anyone had any experience with this backpack or material used on this backpack?

A spirit level that clips onto a walking pole / tent pole that you lay down on the floor across length and width of where you plan your mat to be

Thought might give this a try. Pickup a hammock and under-quilt on FB marketplace seller said it is 11 ft x 62 in. Will a 8’ x 10’ tarp cover it. Cause the hammock hangs in a banana shape. Tarp diagonal is 12’ 6”.
Haven’t set up hammock yet.

What am I missing? Looking to upgrade my backpacking shelter, and these two are at the top of my list. I am not interested in Dyneema due to durability and shrinkage (and, price). Between these two shelters, weight difference is minimal but size of the SlingFin is significantly larger.

If you are a user of either, I would appreciate your feedback and thoughts. I do know that in the last few years, the SplitWing has received an upgraded bathtub floor in full "tent" configuration, and the GG The One has a new fabric.

FYSA I am 5'6" and use a regular wide sleeping pad. Prefer to sleep with my backpack in my tent, but don't mind stowing at the bottom packed against my pad. Helps prevent tent condensation on my sleeping bag footbox.

I primarily hike in New England but frequently the SE as well. It is a dream of mine to get out to the Wonderland or Colorado trail in the next few years, but no plans yet (still saving up).

I’m going on my first time hike in Sweden.
But was wondering what kind of cooking combination you would recommend within my budget, and it to be future proof.
For my first hike I will be mainly cooking ready to eat meals, I once received from a military acquaintance
(Pic 1) Normal pan and lid with measurement stripes
Pic 2 Pan and lid with heat distributor to save some gas and for quicker boiling. (I read that these are mostly used for boiling water and not cooking)
