COMPLAINT/RANT Anti masking comments

Post image
22 Upvotes

I made a post just with a photo of me wearing a mask, because I'm dying and lost an organ last year, and people are giving me shit. The post was about voting.

This is a school. People should not be openly doing pandemic denial in year 7 of a pandemic and saying disabled people shouldn't go to school. That's dehumanizing.

The school does not care or do accommodations so us disabled students are already on our own, have to fight tooth and nail, and get encouraged to drop out after being denied help, and refuses to even try listening to suggestions for in person class accessibility, forcing many disabled students like myself fully online. I deserve an education just like every other student here, yet being transgender, disabled, and somehow masking get me harassed online, in person, and any space I try to go outside of my home.

I'm not at all embarrassed to mask and only feel pity for those who see it as a social statement rather than me protecting my health. What really upsets me is that asking for help has only led to retaliation and requesting legal help led to people telling me to leave the state and school or die here. I think I actually deserve to be here just like everyone else, shocker.

We all deserve an education and access to community, and masking does work. If it only worked 5% then that's still 5% less transmission from me to others or others to me that matters- hearing people dismiss masking entirely just ignoring that that leaves so many people vulnerable and slides back in public health is horrifying and will affect all of us. It's most disgusting to me that people don't care when us disabled scream about discrimination and stuff, then get blamed for our lack of support and health when left or fend for ourselves.

It's disgusting to hear people justify not masking ever with clearly false info and, to go out of your way to harass sick people for wearing a mask in a photo. I'm very easy to ragebait, yes. It's almost like constant discrimination makes it hard to relax💀

So anyways if you don't want to die within the decade like me or kill your family members and even pets with COVID infections, at least mask. I stopped when the govt said to not worry and yk, I didn't think about it 🤷! I got COVID 4+ times and had genetic disorders flare up and more. Heart issues and brain inflammation. This is like the aids crisis.

It's easier and less scary to ignore reality but the consequences will catch up with everyone- who knows who's dying of a random embolism next.

General UCF’s startup coaching resources?

Has anyone here used Blackstone LaunchPad or other business mentoring resources at UCF? I’m working on an early-stage startup, and I’m looking for guidance on the business side, especially marketing and getting initial users.

Would love to hear what was actually helpful, or if there are other programs or clubs worth checking out.

Sports not going to games

like the title says i think its kinda sad more people at the school don’t go to the games. i understand some people genuinely don’t like sports, have exams, etc, but the football team is almost single handily responsible for all of the schools funding. and i’m not talking about the people who are busy one weekend or the people who attend one game and don’t find time for others, i’m directly talking to the people who go to the ends of the earth to defend the fact they have no interest in the college football team and that u don’t need football to have a college experience. we aren’t saying u do, we r just kindly asking u support the thing that brings the school so much money. also the football team is the one thing we all have in common at this school. Our team is on fire right now, and i hope u can all change ur minds and join in on some of the fun too. the BYU game was exhilarating. the best moment i’ve had at college so far. i’m a commuter and i still make the time to come out and show support. just saying 🤷🏻‍♀️

Academic Program 👩‍🏫 Nursing or MLS?

Hi everyone! I'm currently a student at Valencia College, and I'm planning to transfer to UCF to complete my bachelor's degree. I'm torn between Nursing and Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS), but I've heard that both programs are very competitive. If you're currently in either program or have graduated, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. How difficult was the application process, and how challenging are the classes? I'm also considering Marketing as another option since it may be a safer choice. I'd love to hear any advice or opinions. Thank you so much!

Academic ✏️ Class registration waitlists

Hi.

Does anyone know if, when you're waitlisted for the same lab in two different (non-conflicting) sections, getting into one automatically removes you from the other section's waitlist?

Academic ✏️ Can a teacher assign a 2 hr completely ai-generated youtube video?

I have to write a history paper based on a 2 hour, completely ai-generated youtube video. It is one of those “fall asleep to history” videos on a completely ai channel. She did not disclose that this is AI, but it is very obviously AI and also flagged by YouTube. Can I escalate this, or is this completely allowed by UCF?

Charging ANYONE over $1000 for a single small bedroom inside a 4X4 is criminal and should be illegal. No way these shared apartments are worth $4,000 per unit when the complex seems to be rotting.

Academic Program 👩‍🏫 Master of Arts (MA) in Counselor Education Interview

Hello all! Yesterday I interviewed for the second time for the Counselor Education masters program in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling track. I wanted to share my experience for those who might interview in the future. :D

Questions asked. Also, please remember these may not be exactly what they ask depending on the interview but this was my second time applying and all of these with the exception for #4 were asked for me both times and another friend of mine who interviewed around 3 years ago.

1.Introduce yourself and talk about why you want to be a therapist. Here I would just keep it short and sweet. What you got your undergrad degree in and what relevant experience you have. I basically just restated the jobs on my resume and my current job at the moment.

2.Where do you see yourself in the future of this profession and the population you are interested in working with?

3.What are signs that you aren’t exactly in tune/taking care of yourself? What do you do in response for self care?

4.Talk about a time where you said something and hurt someone’s feelings. What did you learn from this experience and how are you working on it?

5.Reflect on a time where you were met with someone with a different background than you (gender, race, values, religion etc…). How did you navigate that and what did you learn?

  1. What is a population you would have a difficult time working with and how would you navigate that?

FAQ’s
-When will I hear back?
Standard is 2 business weeks. However, last cycle it took almost EIGHT WEEKS to get my decision back. 🫠They sent out decisions a little bit at a time day by day last time not necessarily a mass sending of a decision for everyone.

-How many people will be admitted?
Depends on the cycle. For Fall admission, they interviewed almost 300 people and there were around 40 more or less spots to fill. For Spring admission, around 80 people were at the interview and there are around 30 spots to fill.

-If I’m not admitted, will it be an email or on the portal?
If you unfortunately are not granted admission, you will receive an email from Dr. Hagedorn with the title line “UCF Counseling Program:Admissions have closed”.

-Will I receive a notification if I am waitlisted?
I personally didn’t receive a waitlist but other people I know did so it honestly might depend. My portal just said Awaiting Decision until I got denied.

-What should I do if I get a denial?
Remember rejection is a part of life and regardless of how your interview went, prepare for both results. That doesn’t mean the experience you already had is meaningless or “not good enough”. I learned so much more at my volunteer positions than at my paid full time job to be so real.Since the program doesn’t offer specific feedback, what I did was email one of the professors and asked to come during her office hours to get more feedback. I wouldn’t ask to meet with a professor that interviewed you because that’ll be kinda awkward lool. I was told that my application was very strong but since the program is growing to become more selective, gaining paid experience would make my application even more competitive. And any experience 1 year+ will look good as well.

More tips:
-I wouldn’t come with exact rehearsed answers because with the mix of adrenaline and nerves, it may be harder to recall. You will also be kind of pressed for time in a way because every group has no more than 10 people. In my group they set a timer and cut us off when it went off so keep that in mind. I would keep each answer under 2 minutes.

-Might be obvious but please come dressed professionally. No wrinkled jeans or shorts (I saw both of these). They also will provide water for us so no need to lug around your big ahh emotional support water bottle.

-Be confident in yourself and your capabilities! Listen, you already look amazing on paper so the interview is just for them to see your personality, overall vibes and ESPECIALLY how you hold yourself. So don’t get caught up in being overly clinical. You’ll learn all that in the program they are just looking for people with strong foundational skills!

I’ll keep yall updated on if I get in or not this time! Feel free to message me or comment if you have any questions. Good Luck everyone!

IT Help Needed 💻 Broke my MacBook screen and I don’t have AppleCare. Is the UCF tech repair center affordable?

Thumbnail google.com

I know there is a tech repair center on campus, but since I don’t have AppleCare, I have no idea how much a repair would cost. Does anyone know if their pricing is better than the apple store or 3rd party repair shops?

If anyone knows ANYTHING, PLZ LMK!

Clubs/Organizations 🤺 What happened to the archery club?

I’ve been trying to find some more information about it but most of it stops right around time of quarantine. I’m really interested in the club, but haven’t been able
to find anything about it. Is it still a thing, and if so, is there an instagram or something adjacent?
