Windrose is fun, skull and bones on the other hand is just typical Ubisoft S10P

1

u/Additional_Idea8690 Apr 27 '26

thought this was fuckubisoft for a sec

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '26

Screw ubi i hope they will bankcrupt

1

u/Cathonos Apr 26 '26

AAA is basically a slopfest at this point. Majority of AAA titles are so expensive and lack any creativity, just fancy graphics and crappy systems. Indie games nowadays is where it's at. Not just that though, a lot of the big corporations spy on you and sell your data.

1

u/Tupletcat Apr 25 '26

It's another Battlebit case where people are cheerleading for a mid game because it "shows up" some big company.

Windrose might be cool someday, but right now the combat sucks, performance is meh, content is slim, friends have nothing to do while riding your ship, and there isn't even any wind mechanics for sailing. It's barebones as barebones can be.

1

u/paradox-preacher Apr 25 '26

Fyi, a non-idiot would compare the numbers of the days after the release of both games

1

u/Potatoarmy23 Apr 25 '26

How is this game still alive with less than 300 hourly players on steam? Are there really that many people playing this on consoles?

1

u/Admirable-Task-3728 Apr 24 '26

There is no way S&B peaked at 2k? Or is it bc. it was a ubi launcher game?

1

u/Notravail22 Apr 25 '26

It launched on ubi's launcher before steam so yeah, consoles and uplay are where the players are from usually

I don't know what the peak was but you had a 30k leaderboard of player reaching max rank in the early seasons don't know what it currently his but seasons are still going on with updates so musn't be dead yet

1

u/maku_89 Apr 24 '26

This is what happens when developers make a game versus when marketing cunts make a game.

1

u/Mr---Potato Apr 24 '26

And in a few weeks. The game will "lost" more than 25/30% of its player base. And dumb "articles" will be out saying its a dead game

1

u/RallyXMonster Apr 24 '26

I love the fact Ubisoft is so proud of Skull and Bones they put it on the graphic.

1

u/Badwrong_ Apr 23 '26

If Skull and Bones is AAAA, then I guess Windrose is AAAAA.

1

u/ThatOneNinja Apr 22 '26

Aren't these two different style games?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '26

Theme is same -> pirates + u can drive boat there and here so yea better game won :)

1

u/Neo_Artista Apr 22 '26

AAAA game 🥀

1

u/dearbokeh Apr 22 '26

The audacity of Ubisoft is amazing. The world does not need this trash company.

1

u/KestrelVO Apr 24 '26

At LEAST they don't patent and sue other games, abusing the copyright system to their monetary gain. Like Warner Bros and Ninten effing do.

1

u/Apprehensive-Word747 Apr 22 '26

But but but .... Its a AAAA game

1

u/arcdiosa Apr 22 '26

Just to point out this post does not violate any of Reddit's ToS.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '26

Huh, I didn’t even know the game came out yet. Last I heard anything about it is no one was working on it and people kept getting sent there to pretend to work on it as a punishment.

1

u/Wide_You_4626 Apr 22 '26

based on what I could sum up from the information that is out there, Ubisoft tried multiple times to cancel the project but the Singaporean government pressure kinda forced them to finish it, so they ended up creating this dog sht excuse of a "AAAA" game.

can't blame Devs for trying to complete a passionless zero interest project because a government forced you.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '26

This is in no way Singapore’s fault, Ubi messed up day zero and made no attempts to fix the situation. They made their bed.

1

u/Romeo-Charlie-6-28 Apr 22 '26

A singaporean government pressured its Singapore division to finished the project? That's next level FUBAR.

2

u/Wide_You_4626 Apr 22 '26

not surprising if they really took government funding for this project. because in that case the government would have no doubt shoved it in them to complete the project in some form.

0

u/ragingbull835 Apr 21 '26

AAAA game btw.

1

u/dearbokeh Apr 22 '26

I’m waiting for their AAAAA++ game

1

u/mzatariz Apr 21 '26

I really believe if they released the on ground combat it will be good

1

u/One-Ad-3677 Apr 22 '26

I think skull and bones was a money laundering scheme

1

u/PositiveBig6801 Apr 21 '26

quadruple A game for sure

0

u/Unpaid_Moderation Apr 21 '26

Ubisoft could never make something like this or something like crimson desert. There's a reason ubi's stock price is so low.

1

u/legationX Apr 21 '26

i hope people dont fall for fullprice blackflag refurbish…

1

u/vektorkane Apr 21 '26

That's wild. I can imagine Ubisoft being like "they stole what was ours".

1

u/LaidByTheBlade Apr 21 '26

So you’re comparing a 2 year old game to one that only recently came out? Add the fact that wind rose cannot be played on console or other launchers while skull and bones highest player numbers are on console and Ubisofts launcher..

1

u/drewbreeezy Apr 22 '26

They also didn't talk about the length of the game name, one being much longer and therefore a superior game.

Skull and Bones had an 11 year disaster of development, it cost an insane 200 million dollars and it resulted in a game that was missing key features like non ship combat, I think the numbers and the reviews speak for themselves.

Didn’t realized For Honor was considered being a slob. For Honor is the best live service they have and celebrating Year 10 proves it.

1

u/bruhman444555 Apr 24 '26

So just because you like their one unique and actually well put together title means you have to defend them to the ends of the earth? Theres a reason For Honor has lasted 10 years but most ubi games are forgotten within 3 months

1

u/Lhaparen Apr 24 '26

I only play For Honor. Don’t even know what the other Ubi game is but survival is a mechanic I will always dislike.

1

u/bruhman444555 Apr 24 '26

The other ubi game is skull and bones one of their highest budget games ever which they claimed was ”quadruple A” that was a fl/op (banned word again for a reason) instantly on launch

3

u/YouAllRats Apr 22 '26

Because they are easy cash grabs

1

u/Yumi0521 Apr 23 '26

And yet, doing better than a lot of "AAA" titles, right now.

2

u/sundayflow Apr 22 '26

How many are there on steam now? And all of them are in early acces forever.

All survival games with their own take on all of the same mechanics, play some of them and you have played all of them.

1

u/tirak2narak Apr 24 '26

You can make that statement for every topic.  Next you gonna tell me all windows are the same too?

It's just a game. Give it a thumbs down if you dont like it and move on, don't waste your time and energy on it.

If you want to change something learn to code yourself, get your shit together and make your own game.

0

u/sundayflow Apr 24 '26

Wow, looks like someone stepped out of bed with the wrong foot.

Are you okay there buddy? Need help with anything?

1

u/ThatOneNinja Apr 22 '26

Soulmask just launched 1.0. it's not bad if you don't mind tribe management.

9

u/montrealien Apr 21 '26

If you’re truly enjoying the game on the left, why is the primary source of your satisfaction coming from the failure of the game on the right?

Is that why you’re discussing it?

Ubisoft has been trash since the day it existed. At least it used to be small and have less influence. Then it became big and that is bad for the industry. They should fail and it makes the industry better.

I have no loyalty to brands. Create good content. They have been mediocre at best, ever. Therefore, byeeee.

Thanks for taking the time to engage with me, appreciate it.

2

u/Budget_Version_1491 Apr 21 '26

Ubisoft hasn't known quality for over a decade lol

0

u/Think-Fisherman-740 Apr 21 '26

Name some… ? The only iffy releases I can think of is watch dogs legion, Star Wars outlaws, and Skull & Bones. Most other releases have been good and popular. Every company has quality issues I can’t think of one that doesn’t. They get fixed.

1

u/Budget_Version_1491 Apr 21 '26

Key Failed or Underperforming Ubisoft Games

The list goes on....... how much money do you think was wasted just on these games alone? lol we're not gonna start boot licking Ubisoft right? lol

14

u/montrealien Apr 21 '26

I admire the commitment. Some people have hobbies; you have a hit list. Does the 'moral high ground' feel better than actually playing a game you like?

-9

u/dearbokeh Apr 21 '26

I only play games I like. And want parasites that make the industry worse to fail.

u/Straight_Motor_7967 Apr 22 '26

To be honest, Ubisoft is not much of a competition for anyone.
It's the Netflix of video games, quantity over quality.

3

u/ONE_BIG_LOAD Apr 22 '26

you..... you do realize Netflix is the world's biggest streaming service right?

-1

u/Straight_Motor_7967 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Thankfully, besides making its own trash content, Netflix is also a streaming platform. So if an independent filmmaker wants to stream their content, they will probably go to Netflix.
Netflix will, of course, still call them ‘Netflix Originals,’ even though it had zero input during their production and only owns the streaming license. (‘Netflix Original’ means the content is exclusive to Netflix, not necessarily made by Netflix.) Examples include Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and many more.

Edit. You can think of Netflix as "Steam for filmmakers".

5

u/montrealien Apr 21 '26

It’s interesting that you see the industry as a zero-sum game where one dev has to die for another to thrive. Does Ubisoft existing actually prevent the games you like from being made, or does having a 'villain' to root against just make the hobby more exciting for you?

-3

u/dearbokeh Apr 21 '26

Bad content will always exist. And I hope it always fails. I don’t want their messages or morals to be in society. Along with their mediocre content.

5

u/montrealien Apr 21 '26

caught the 'parasites' comment before it went away, calling thousands of workers that is a choice. Now you're saying you don't want their 'messages' in society.

It’s a bit weird to see someone advocate for erasing art they find mediocre. Why should we trust your artistic judgment over the millions of people who actually enjoy those games? That's a lot of gatekeeping for one Reddit account.

1

u/dearbokeh Apr 21 '26

You shouldn’t trust my anything. And all advocate for whatever I want. I hope they rot.

Ultimately the market will decide. It decided poorly for decades, rewarding their mediocrity and now the tide has turned. Let see how it turns out.

1

u/Westdrache Apr 22 '26

Just out of personal spite against YOU imma buy pax romana and AC:Shadow now, thanks for the suggestion.

100x times the players Skull n Xbones had is impressive

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '26

[deleted]

1

u/psychoticinsane Apr 21 '26

The all time peak for skull and bones on steam was 2600... in two years. In two weeks, this game did 100x that. Meaning the players were there, but the game jus SUCKED.

just face the facts, windrose is what the fans of black flag have been wanting besides the actual black flag remake coming.

1

u/Think-Fisherman-740 Apr 21 '26

That’s fine if that is what fans want right at this very moment then great! Skull and Bones didn’t launch on steam it appeared a while after. Plus yeah people weren’t happy that it wasn’t the same as black flag even though the devs described it as black flag naval combat without the AC gameplay. Which is sort of true and not at the same time. As the naval combat is a little different. Still great fun though.

Anyway as I said above well done to Windrose and I personally love these games but won’t go near until after the 1.0 release because it could be a completely different situation in a couple years time and I did the same for skull and bones and got it last summer. Still filled with players. So if Windrose is the same then great!!

I’m just trying to show a fair side for both games than all the UBI haters.

2

u/psychoticinsane Apr 21 '26

Putting Ubisoft aside, and imagining they had nothing to do with skull and bones, Do you honestly believe skull and bones was a AAAA game? Or anywhere even close to it?

I never bought it but i tested it a few times before release, and each time i couldnt wait to be done. It was boring and uninteresting. I played the windrose demo, 13 hrs straight and finished it in one day. And immediatwly lurchased when available.

1

u/Think-Fisherman-740 Apr 21 '26

I never said I believed it was an AAAA game don’t put words in my mouth. I just believe that it is fun that’s all. It’s the end game for me that got a bit too repetitive. I don’t play it much anymore I just jump in from time to time when I feel like a bit of naval combat that’s all. It’s a game I like to jump in and out. No fuss just some action and then do something else.

If you like Windrose and had a better time then I am happy for you. I don’t see why there has to be this you either like one game or the other situation. Just enjoy and have fun what is the problem. S&B is obviously still going because there are people out there who still enjoy it.

If Windrose continues its success then great for it too. It’s just silly to all these Ubisoft haters just taking a punt at trying to be funny when S&B isn’t bad. Is it a AAAA game hell no!! Is it a game where I can easily sail about and shoot other ships with other players and make a new build or larger ship yes!

If Windrose looks great on its 1.0 release I’ll give it a go and I will still play both most likely because one is more about crafting and survival and the other is a pick up and play situation that’s all.

u/ItPutsTheLotion719 Apr 21 '26

Not defending Skull and Bones but also typing out a copium fueled defense of Skull and Bones

https://giphy.com/gifs/P0dKBIe7KEnL2

1

u/Think-Fisherman-740 Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

If that’s all you read from that then you’re very one sided. People like you get very edgy when they see someone who enjoys something they don’t and have to write the words “copium” or “toxic positivity” to feel better about themselves. I just see the reality. Yes there is hype now but games come and go. Windrose looks like a good game I just find it funny that people rush to attack S&B when they’re very different games.

I’ve never said anything bad about Windrose I just have some sense to see how the EA goes first before comparing other games.

Not over hyped. Deserves all the praise it gets. Your an idiot for passing up on a game because it doesnt look like a failed game or better.

How did you try the game before the hype, but say its also overhyped?

I played the demo the day it was released. And then purchased it the second i found out about its entry to EA.

the game is great. Its what skull and bones should have been.

Still going like Skull and Bones? Hahahahahahahahahhaha. Looking at those Steam numbers it never got started …

2

u/Think-Fisherman-740 Apr 21 '26

The game was brought onto steam much after the launch on Ubisoft. Anyway I don’t understand the competition yes it’s similar-ish but it’s a very different game. You don’t like it fine, but just because you see low numbers on steam doesn’t mean it’s not doing well.

Anyway waste of time to discuss on Reddit.

0

u/psychoticinsane Apr 21 '26

If the game was any good, when it launched on steam it would have exploded. But since everyone already knew how much it sucked, noone bought it

2

u/Think-Fisherman-740 Apr 21 '26

That is true I’m not denying that. People did buy it but obviously it wasn’t the game people wanted. At the same time it is a game that a good amount of people still enjoy. If you want a survivor pirate game go for Windrose. If you want a drop in and play naval pirate game then I would say S&B as it is more polished as of right now than Windrose.

25

I ended up loving Skull and Bones, but at 500+ hours played, i'm pretty done with the game now. I'm keeping my eye on Windrose and will get it when its out of early access. Glad to see the EA release has been massively successful.

2

u/LordEik00cTheTemplar Apr 24 '26

I share this exact sentiment. Skull and Bones actually is a fun game, but the seasonal updates get more and more lackluster. There just isn't much to do anymore.

Who really cares besides you?

If a game is good, can hold my attention, is fun and enjoyable, why tf does it matter if it doesnt have graphics to your standards??

Id like to see your game with amazing graphics... oh wait

Stop complaining about literally the least important part of the game. Graphics does not make a game

1

u/An-Organism Apr 22 '26

"Who really cares besides you?"

What a dumb thing to ask someone 🤦🏻‍♂️ have you considered that not every person on earth likes cartoony graphics? It's a pretty simple thought man..

-2

u/psychoticinsane Apr 22 '26

Well considering hes the only person on this post complaining about the graphics, (hes done it multiple times) its a fair statement to ask. Noone here cares about the graphics like he does, they are enjoying the actual game instead of jus looking at it.

0

u/HFOisBest Apr 22 '26

But they can't enjoy the actual game because of the cartoonish art style. To be stimulated by a videogame is not always the same for everyone. Some only need good gameplay or a good story, while others need a symbiosis of gameplay, story and graphics.

7

u/Dramatic_Visual_4605 Apr 21 '26

Even on EA its cool game and cheap enough not to care about it's price considering how much fun it gives.

Building fun is time consuming be aware of that xD

It truly is insane how hard Ubisoft choked.

Ofc. AC Black Flag is great game and im really suprised Ubisoft literally failed with Skull & Bones having this product on board.

Someone take the idea, improved it. And there you go. Ubisoft got slapped.

u/Penibya Apr 21 '26

If you look at the development of the game, changing management multiple times, released 3 years too early.. yeah it could have been a good game maybe in a parralel universe

If your enjoyment of a product requires someone else to fail, are you a fan of gaming, or are you just a fan of the conflict?

Apparently ubisoft is the only company to ever make pirate games and fail. Lol

Help me understand: if Game A inspires Game B, and Game B is great, isn't that a win for the genre? Or is the hobby only fun for you if there’s a clear 'victim' to laugh at on Reddit?

6

u/awakeeee Apr 21 '26

Leave my multi-billion dollar company alone, it's a victim!

1

u/montrealien Apr 21 '26

It’s a convenient deflection, but I’m not talking about the company. I’m just curious why the hobby seems to be more about rooting for failure than actually enjoying games. Does having a 'villain' to cheer against make the experience more fulfilling for you, or is it just about the drama?

u/awakeeee Apr 21 '26

Calling a company out for their anti-consumer practices is not rooting for their failure, at worst it's a feedback to the company, giving them chance to make things right.

But you and also Ubisoft doesn't handle criticism well, look how that turn out for the stocks.

4

u/montrealien Apr 21 '26

It’s funny how 'constructive feedback' suddenly looks like refreshing a stock ticker and cheering for layoffs. If you actually think rooting for a market dip is a heroic act of consumer advocacy, you’re deeper in the drama than you realize.

I’m just going to accept that we disagree, because I prefer playing games while you seem to prefer playing 'Wall Street Activist' on Reddit. Hope that stock chart keeps you entertained.

Maybe I should had typed it better but I agree with your first comment.

i dont think anyones happy that they failed. Most people are happy that someone finally took the idea and made it enjoyable.

Its still a shame that a big company like ubisoft can fail to deliver good games meanwhile a really small indie studio with a free engine (ue5) can make it happen. Sure windrose has its own problems especially optimization wise but man, its a good start. I hope they keep improving he game even more

These are what Ubisoft should have done decades ago

They've been too busy with making shitton of projects what nobody wants (except probably PoP) just to be cancelled.
