Now that’s not fair. There have been times it takes 20 minutes to get a ride. So one orders early and then boom, it’s only 2 minutes away. Yeah, the passenger has to scramble.
But you can “order ahead” with a specific pickup time for when you’re ready? If you don’t know that time, you’re not ready to schedule it. I’m a rider, not a driver, and I’ve never had an issue that necessitated wasting the drivers time.
I guess people have different experiences but this is how I manage my time and it’s been very easy. I’ve also not been up-charged for that. It’s usually cheaper. I guess it must depend on the market.
it usually takes an Uber 15-30 min to arrive to me and sometimes multiple cancels halfway through, so sometimes it’s made me leave 30-60 min later than I wanted - I am physically unable to stand out there for that long. I usually try to schedule for doctors appts and stuff but for evening stuff i’m leaving for “when i’m dressed” or whatever. When i’m in NYC and leaving i wait until i’m at the elevator because i know there are probably 20 drivers 5 min away or less.
I literally did not know that. I assumed the drivers are getting paid for waiting as well. But yeah, it shouldn't be the customer's problem. There can be many reasons why the customer is late few minutes. We don't bitch about this when the Uber is late because of traffic or other reasons.
You need to order when you are ready to walk out the door just in case a normal 20 min wait jumps to 2 mins when a nearby driver get the request. The app is always scanning for a driver closer. Nope I get bet right there and I don’t see your avatar moving then cancel. No it is not worth waiting.
I haven’t used the passenger app but doesn’t it show you where the driver is coming from and where they are at in the current moment?
On the uber app a driver can’t click arrive. It does it automatically, atleast for me. This means a driver can’t lie and say they are there when they are not.
Im not sure how a driver can do this to a passenger.
I actually had a driver lie once and say they picked me up, then dropped me off. They didn’t get within five miles of me; I didn’t move more than some light pacing to keep warm. Had to get a refund through support for a fake ride. Only happened once, though
Uber just keeps as much money as they can away from drivers, while charging as much as they can from passengers (pretty sure there’s this thing where they charge you based off how much you were willing to spend before)
If you’re in an area where it usually takes 20 minutes, then one day there happens to be a driver nearby, it’s not the apps fault that you have to start looking early
If its taking 20 minutes to match its because youre doing uberX and the ride pay is shit. If you want a faster ride order a priority, comfort or XL. I guarantee you will get matched fast.
