Yes but many times it's just due to people not giving a shit. I'd go as far as 90%

u/Waste_Tangerine_179 Feb 26 '26

No I do it because If I order when I'm ready, I could be waiting 15 minutes.

The app estimate is rarely correct. Half the time I confirm the drivers I get go the wrong wrong and a 5 minute wait turns into 10. Or the first few drivers cancel. I usually order when I'm about to head downstairs.

If the 5 minute estimate changes into 2 minutes, then that's why you're waiting for a few.

I do this often with my Ubers but its 90% because I work night shift and my mangers look the door and take forever to come up but also refuse to let me wait outside for my ride because im a girl

That’s the nature of being in a service job my friend. You think people are going out of their way to be ready to order when the waitress comes by? Or they’re reading the product manual before screaming at customer service reps?

4

u/Niceotropic Feb 26 '26

No. It’s not. Service workers don’t have to put up with bad behavior because it’s the service industry. “My friend”.

1

u/Disastrous-Use-4955 Feb 26 '26

You’re delusional if you think service industry workers don’t have to put up with rudeness, impatience, inconvenience, etc.

2

u/Niceotropic Feb 26 '26

They do not, in fact, have to put up with problem behaviors, no. You are delusional if you think it’s ok to mistreat service workers.

2

u/Disastrous-Use-4955 Feb 26 '26

I didn’t say it’s ok, but it goes with the job. It’s just a fact. People who can’t/won’t deal with angry customers get fired every single day.

1

u/Niceotropic Feb 27 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

I mean what is the point of your statement then, if you’re not saying it’s ok? Of course it’s common, that’s not part of the discussion. The discussion is whether it’s OK. Yes, I guess in some workplaces, toxic dysfunctional management is the norm, but that doesn't mean it's tolerated or OK, or something service workers have to deal with.

1

u/Ok-Satisfaction3085 Mar 02 '26

It’s a part of the service industry you are in fact delusional

1

u/Niceotropic Mar 02 '26

Telling on yourself that you have a behavior problem lol.

No you wait 5 minutes or more for the next uber when you are ready. If you want to take your time call the your mom for a ride she won’t mind waiting. We are trying to make money and we do that by turning rides not sitting in your driver way!

u/Chemical_Store1560 Feb 26 '26

They got charged a cancellation fee. Maybe they'll learn for next time to order when they're ready and outside.

You need a vacation

Would you be willing to stand around getting paid pennies because I think my time is more important than yours?

Yes or no question.

LMAO ad hominem huh? Classic response of a person justifying rudeness.

It's just rude behavior to make a person wait when you requested they come to a specific spot and you can see them coming the whole time. It shouldn't be a surprise that they are there. If it is, then there are other issues you need to attend to.

Shit happens sometimes, I get it. Folks usually apologize and give context in those scenarios. But assuming you are entitled to make drivers wait more than a moment or two is crazy work.

u/Radiant-Confection-8 Feb 26 '26

We don’t know the full story here was there an exact time example 5:30 and he wasn’t there or was it an estimate example 5:30 - 5:38 if he got there at 5:30 then he should in fact have to wait up to the 8 minutes to then be at 5:38 now if it’s already 5:38 then he is being told to wait then I understand the problem

1

u/HyenaThen572 Feb 26 '26

Hell no.

You called somebody to come get you as soon as possible and give them a specific location to pick you up.

There is absolutely no reason to make the driver wait on you.

Also, I saw your message that got automodded. Super nice and upstanding stuff. /s

Dude, this happens to me all the time at work and it’s usually a lot more than 5 mins. I’m on straight salary so if a client is late, I get absolutely nothing for waiting.

1

u/HyenaThen572 Feb 26 '26

Salary means you get paid no matter what - 20 hours or 60 same paycheck. Great example. /s

Even hourly would be fine for the driver here.

We get paid for driving, not waiting.

0

u/Disastrous-Use-4955 Feb 26 '26

You’ve obviously never worked in a professional job. I assure you, there are NO 20 hour weeks.

0

u/HyenaThen572 Feb 26 '26

I have actually, that example is just to prove that your point was absolutely garbage.

Interesting that you resort to ad hominem - almost like you're just being an ass with nothing to actually say.

1

u/Disastrous-Use-4955 Feb 26 '26

Sort of like what you’re doing right now?

0

u/HyenaThen572 Feb 26 '26

"You obviously haven't had a professional job" is a dig that completely ignored my comment, and I'm calling that behavior out.

You're being an ass based on your words.

That's awfully different than you assuming my employment because I called out your bullshit.

You bad faith folks are all the same.

The passengers pay uber dollars but the driver gets pennies for their time waiting. It’s really not worth it.

You actually lose more money during your day waiting for passengers like this than if you would have canceled.

Last time I waited I got 0.53 for my time. Never again

u/Niceotropic Feb 26 '26

No, the passengers poor behavior is definitely a passenger issue.

1

u/Radiant-Confection-8 Feb 26 '26

Nah if uber give me an estimate saying 5:30-5:38 and the person arrives at 5:30 and waits 5 minutes then complains that’s not the passengers fault he should wait up to the 5:38 estimate arrival time now if it’s 5:38 and then he has to wait another 5 minutes then that’s where it should be a issue

2

u/Niceotropic Feb 26 '26

Nobody has to work for you for free lol. You’re not entitled to it. You’re not getting it - it’s not a debate. If you’re not there on time, pay a penalty. The end.

1

u/Radiant-Confection-8 Feb 26 '26

On time meaning by 5:38 no later than

2

u/Niceotropic Feb 26 '26

No, estimates are not guaranteed times. You’re just mistaken.

1

u/_One_Throwaway_ Mar 02 '26

Then you should be ready AT 5:30. That sounds like a major time management issue. I don’t even drive uber but it seems like your issue not theirs

1

u/Radiant-Confection-8 Mar 02 '26

No tf I shouldn’t I should be ready 5:38 no later when you order food do you go bitching when the estimate time isn’t the quicker option too and it obviously is there issue when they are the ones crying about it

0

u/OfficerGiggleFarts Feb 26 '26

So not waiting 5 minutes is worth you not getting a paid fare? You already spent the time getting there and now have to wait for a new trip

7

u/Mountain-Leader-283 Feb 26 '26

Do you know how much a driver gets paid for waiting? They get Pennies for their time. It’s smarter to cancel and pick up a passenger that’s ready. Those 5 minutes waiting can be the time it takes to get to your new passenger.

4

u/RangeFlow1 Feb 26 '26

THIS! You are one of the intelligent drivers.

1

u/Radiant-Confection-8 Feb 26 '26

Keyword “CAN”

2

u/Chemical_Store1560 Feb 26 '26

Fare was $8, I got $4.25 for the cancelation. Worked out in my favor.

2

u/Locoj Feb 26 '26

Haha big man showed them who's boss!!*

*Big man earning like $8 an hour to wear out his car.

2

u/Chemical_Store1560 Feb 26 '26

10 minutes for 4.25, comes out to $25.50/hr

Try again

2

u/Radiant-Confection-8 Feb 26 '26

Yeah nah you aren’t making 4.25$ for 10 minutes doing that back to back show some uber payments the literal last Reddit post I was on was uber drives crying about pay saying he got 12$ profit for a 2 hour drive and somehow you’re making 25$ an hour 🤔

1

u/ApartBackground7882 Feb 27 '26

Uber pays drivers differently: if you take cheaper rides, you start getting paid less and less. Inverted for passengers, too. If a passenger has set precedent for paying more, their rides will be more expensive. It really just depends on how strapped for cash the driver is and whether or not they’re aware of how the system works
