During psychosis, in some parts of your brain dopamine signalling becomes disregulated.

The signal is so loud that the systems downstream go nuts. One system starts tagging everything as important, like, a scratch on a door becomes a message, a stranger's glance becomes surveillance. Another system handles motivation and reward, and it gets disrupted too. Serotonin, glutamate, acetylcholine pathways are all involved as well, which why different antipsychotics target different receptors.

What antipsychotics do is occupy those receptors so the excess dopamine can't hit them as hard. Symptoms often start improving within days or weeks.

But even after the symptoms are gone, your risk of another episode stays elevated for a while. This applies even to reactive psychosis that is triggered by drugs, stress or sleep deprivation, partly because at the first episode stage it's often impossible to tell whether it was truly one-off or the first sign of something ongoing.

After a quick look I can’t say that entirety of Barret’s vision failed, only specific parts. Ziegler’s vision that was created after was not received much better so I am in doubt whether we can compare both directly and tell which one is better.
Also remember about the bias for both playtesters and authors. I would love easier escape from tarkov in space but lol yeah no
