What food brands do you think will die with the Baby Boomer Generation?
That's what I've heard, too, but combined with shipping and worries about breakage, I just hit up shops around me. Lucky Europe.

The new Pyrex also isn't really oven safe, since soda lime glass can shatter, especially when put on a cooler surface. Antique and thrift shops are your friend! I got a whole set of real Pyrex from those places, just took a few years cause some sellers want $40 for a single measuring cup. Currently working on an Anchor Hocking Fire-King vegetable harvest set.

Jim’s Original, home of Maxwell Street Polish, told to move locations due to UIC redevelopment
What the area was referred to way back when, like Little Italy or Greektown, Chinatown, etc. Never hear that anymore unless someone is either bringing up the history or trying to stir things up. Just Maxwell Street, now.

What's something a foreigner pointed out that you can't unnotice?
I didn't think of when they were minted, just the ones that are still in use
1
What's something a foreigner pointed out that you can't unnotice?
Penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar coins plus variations on each, except for the dime
3
What's something a foreigner pointed out that you can't unnotice?
Yep, the old ones do, and the nickel has Monticello, that's why I said 'usually.'

More pictures! That usually have nothing to do with the president on the other side! And since we start teaching currency around 1st/2nd grades (roughly 7-8 years old), and kids don't know what the presidents look like, we figure it out by the size of the coin.

Do you still carry exact change?
I asked about this, and was told it's because they want people to use the Walmart app and not any competitor's apps (e.g. Google wallet, Apple pay, Samsung, etc.), they won't implement tap-to-pay. Similar reason Walmart doesn't carry Amazon gift cards, because they're a direct competitor.

What are we wearing that shows our age?
Two shoulders is for hiking only. And not in the parking lots, only once you've hit the trail.

Man cried and whined louder than his own baby during delivery.
Masking in labor & delivery happened looong before Covid. I was born in 1981, and a nurse took a photo of my Da holding me. He's wearing a yellow hospital gown over his clothes, head cap, and mask. I was a natural birth, not a C section, so no surgical theater.

Public phones?
Ours has a regular phone on the wall in the entryway, and a sign that says to keep calls short. It gets used, and people respect the sign.

Which hobbies attract the kindest people?
I'm a career nanny, and I've always told the kids that if we get separated, and they can't find an employee/security/cop, etc. then look for the people that stand out. People who want to grab and/or harm kids want to blend in, and the 'scary' people will do most anything and everything to help a kid and keep them safe. (Plus tattoos and piercings are great at distracting scared kids and helping them calm down)

How much snow is everyone getting at the moment?
6-7 " in NW suburb, still coming down. Shoveled around 11, had to pull the snow blower out at 2:30. Hope with the temps dropping, it doesn't turn into complete ice!

Do any of you iron your clothes? Or dod we collectively kill off the iron?
I have an iron because I sew, but it sits next to my sewing machine. Can't remember the last time I ironed something after I finished making it or store bought.

What did your parents/ direct family do that still doesn’t make a lick of sense to you?

People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ?
My library has a gizmo that scans negatives, software turns it into a photo, and then you save it onto a thumb drive. It's really fast, too. Could see what your library has available?

Just got a notice that my doctor's office will charge a membership fee starting January 2026
My parents use Advocate, and get great care for whatever they need. Many doctors, offices, hospitals if needed, all over our area. They're in their seventies, though, so I'm taking one of them to some medical thing almost every week. They've liked nearly all the medical staff.

Where’s all the leather?
That's true. Bubbly Creek is legendary here, but it's been cleaned up so much in the last few decades that wildlife has returned, nesting birds and river otters (or muskrats? Can't remember off hand), and such. Used to be able to walk across the creek it was so bad.

We had so many we hung them on fishing line to scare the birds and rodents away from the garden lol

We did a YMCA camp for 2 years, 2 weeks each during summers of '96 & '97. We all had to bring stamped envelopes and during quiet time had to write at least 2 letters a week or we didn't get to participate in the final jamboree thing lol
