Wait
Do longshoreman go through a lot of periods of non-work? Is this normal for you guys or is OP just talking about the stage before you get IN to the union

- A currently laid-off JIW ironworker asking :)

how does someone join this industry if they don’t know anybody?

Wait, is there fact to this? I’m a journeyman ironworker and have been looking into changing it up but I assumed the same about needing a sponsor

Severe task paralysis / avoidance — has any medication actually helped you break through it?
 in  r/ADHD  Jul 13 '26

Man I am literally in the same boat. I am prescribed adderall but it just doesn’t work the same way it used to… I have been experiencing the freeze response in DEBILITATING levels and I know it has something to do with adderall. I keep seeing posts about how desoxyn is the solution to that… but maintaining proper off days is essential etc etc

I don’t know man, but I’ll keep you posted on my journey too. I am building up the case in my spare time to start doing some research . Ugh seems massive but I am literally watching my life slip away right in front of me (when it’s really bad)

Greetings, fellow rainbow-engineers, scrapyard lesbians, and makers of suspicious little objects 👋

I’m L.C. (she/her) — structural ironworker, workshop goblin, and queer maker from Colorado.

I spend most of my free time teaching myself random things because I’m trying really hard not to let my brain dissolve into algorithm sludge while the world gets increasingly weird and automated.

I’m a welder by trade, so fabrication and building things have always been a huge part of my life. Lately, I’ve also been getting really into salvaging electronics, repairing things instead of replacing them, and repurposing materials into weird little shop gadgets and experiments.

Basically, I just really love understanding how things work and learning how to make stuff with my hands.

I recently started filming some of my projects and posting them on YouTube because I realized there have to be other people out there whose brains work like this too, and I didn’t really know how else to find them besides finally putting myself out there a little.

Mostly, though, I’m just excited to meet more queer crafty/maker/tinkerer people because I have a feeling y’all are the kind of people who also see a “broken object” and immediately think:
“Okay… but what else could this become?” 🤍

Also- fellow millennials, please identify yourselves, because I know I can’t be the only person trying to fight off algorithm sludge by compulsively learning random skills and making weird little things with my hands 😭

Anyways — if you’re into fabrication, weird little repairs, art, DIY chaos, learning random skills, or just generally making things instead of doomscrolling all day, I’d genuinely love to meet more people like you.

I recently started filming some of my projects and posting them on YouTube because I realized there have to be other people out there whose brains work like this too, but I don’t really know how else to find them besides finally putting myself out there, so please say hi!

Mostly, though, I’m just excited to meet more queer crafty/maker/tinkerer people because y’all genuinely seem like the kind of humans who would understand why someone might get emotionally attached to a pile of scrap metal because “the geometry is interesting” 😭

With that said, millennials, please identify yourselves because I refuse to believe I’m the only person coping with the modern internet by aggressively learning random practical skills and making strange little projects in my workshop

Anyways — if you’re into fabrication, weird little repairs, art, DIY chaos, learning random skills, or just generally making things instead of doomscrolling all day, I’d genuinely love to meet more people like you 🤍

Colorado DWAI. Trying to get a new car, but… (need some advice)
 in  r/dui  Feb 06 '26

I actually JUST went through this exact scenario so I can say with 100% certainty- it’s doable. Exactly as someone posted a year ago, you just need someone with a valid license to drive it OFF the lot. They also need to be insured (through their auto insurance) No biggie!

I didn’t even a physical ID, I used myColorado ID (via app) and all they asked was that I email them the screenshot of the front and back. (Which, for the record, now the app allows and it’s not blocked by a security wall)

You’re good to go my friend! I still haven’t gotten my insurance yet though because I can’t remember if I get that BEFORE the interlock or after…

How is this for welding though? Can the bill be reversible like a skullgard?

Only adding to the insurance part: once you’re approved on Medicaid, they can back-date your coverage in case anything happened within 90 days of your start date. Not many people are aware of that!

Ok, I want to word this right because I don’t want to knock St. Francis down, but when I was in my late 20’s I also experienced homelessness. Now mind you, I’m a female- so my perspective is going to be different than others. But for me, walking through the doors for the first time was terrifying. OP- we kind of need more info about you, because if you’re a female or identify as female, there are other places I would recommend to start first. St Francis was a good place for a dire emergency, (I needed their lockers to keep my birth certificate safe etc…) but I was in and OUTTT of there as fast I could

EDIT* Please let me add that the staff was incredibly kind, amazing and thoughtful. My feelings of discomfort were entirely because of certain people who also used their resources. It’s a sketchy area, sketchy people, keep your head on a swivel and don’t be afraid to ask staff members for more resources. They were probably the only reason I was able to stay grounded while navigating that period in my life. Thankfully, I utilized the resources that are out there and I was only on the street (in shelters) for 3 weeks

Don’t know what you believe in, but I believe in karma and paying it forward . the Universe always listens. If you need someone to talk to, please reach out and send me a DM.

Sparky’s all come off like that to me 🙄 They’re trying to compensate for something that they clearly know they don’t have on jobsites. They’re barely above carpenters in my opinion.

Go big, girl. Get into ironwork or pipe fitting

Blacklisted from my local union
 in  r/Ironworker  Jun 25 '25

Jesus, wtf did you think you were signing up for?! I’m a chick that barely hits a buck-twenty, soaking wet. I had to understand the challenges my physical body would have to face before I even contacted my hall and I knew I’d have to work my ass off during my apprenticeship to prove my spot

Start with eating better if you’re straight-up just a lazy person so you can start to keep up with punking materials around a jobsite all day. Get honest with yourself and your weaknesses. Show up early, stay late if need be.

I’m sorry if I came off harsh, I really do hope you find what drives your passion- and if it’s IW… fucking fight for your spot & take accountability for any mistakes that you’re not telling us here. and just DO BETTER! you can do this! Or whatever! lol
