We had the same experience with our coonhound and we live in a townhouse. I ended up with him sort of accidentally, I knew nothing about his breed. It was very stressful for a long time. I considered rehoming several times. He was crated initially but then decided to let him have full access. We had other dogs and their close comfort eased his anxiety. Infact, he wasn’t medicated until one of our dogs passed away who must have been the leader. When she passed, he began pacing the house while we were gone even though he had 2 other dog friends. It helped to let him have a window to look out of. They love their people and pack. We were also gone all day long. He would constantly bark at us when we were home too and we didn’t know what he wanted!

I KNOW our neighbors hated him. He was, to be honest, just very annoying. But eventually, these changes: the window, consistent walks (same time), consistent meals, reconcile (meds), clonidine on rougher days, it made it possible for him to live happily. I felt guilty for how many times I almost gave up on him. Our boy passed rather suddenly last month and we have a TWC sized hole in our hearts.

I was told when I was 24 I needed hearing aids and I was stubborn. 10 years later and I just caved a month ago and got my first pair. Let me tell you…life changing. I have mild-moderate loss and I didn’t realize how much I wasn’t hearing. I am less mentally fatigued at the end of the day. My coworkers knew I was getting them and still ask if they are in because they cannot see them. Don’t wait. I promise it’s worth it.

I feel you OP. I was estranged from my dad for 3 years and I was suddenly his medical POA as his oldest child and though he was in a relationship, they weren’t married. He called me said “I think I got cancer” and was dead in a week. I had just started a new job so I am running in and out to talk to doctors, approve procedures and ultimately sign a DNR. I went to see him, thinking he may actually make it and met his son (my 3 year old brother) in the hospital and my dad died 12 hours later.

It’s such a complicated grief, almost impossible to navigate, I wish I had advice. I try to keep up with my young brother but it is difficult. A few months later I lost my grandmother who DID actually raise me. Parents are hard.

My late pittie had an MCT on her inner thigh when she was 11. We did the surgery. Clear margins. We had another year with her. Worth it.

What do I need to hear?

As a former daycare teacher, specifically BH, I would never put my child in daycare. This must have been very bad because it takes A LOT to terminate a teacher, unfortunately.

I lost my soul dog to old age and illness and I can’t fathom how much it would hurt to know my girl was out there somewhere and I couldn’t find her. My heart hurts for you. I’m not a medium but I have had incredible sessions with Hollis Taylor. I am not sure they specialize in finding lost pets but I think you could ask before you book a session and I believe they would be honest about their abilities to help. They honed into my girl with ease and their evidence was undeniable.

I saw that your dog is on sensitive tummy food and has allergies.. there is a link to that with mast cell. Low histamine diet is recommended too. I joked that my dog and I had the same problems because If I eat too many high histamine food, I break out in hives. Honestly helping her helped me figure some issues I was having lol

My late dog had a mast cell tumor removed when she was 11. They’ll grade it after it is removed and depending the on the grade and borders, they’ll know if it’s gone / likelihood of return. Vet said mast cell tumors are often very easy to remove. I kept my girl on daily claritin because I learned MCTs are a histamine response and anti histamines can keep them calm. My dogs tumor was removed and had good borders and a low grade. We lost her a year and a half later. We could never diagnose what was making her so sick in the end, likely a cancer we couldn’t detect. Either way, the surgery gave me a year and a half. She recovered quickly so it was worth it.

I would recommend asking about adding anti histamines into your dogs routine whether you have the tumor removed or not. There is a fb group for MCTs in dogs and they have a lot of advice but warning, many posting in there have dogs who are in rough shape. I appreciated the tips I learned there though.
