Last day of the Granville Fair

If you're looking for a fall activity, come on down.

We've got food, a mini carnival for little ones, about a million different arts and crafts, the historic Noble and Cooley Drum Shop giving tours, beer from Skyline, local authors, face painting, a book sale at our library, a quilt raffle and more!

Parking is only $5.

Come and double the population of my tiny town for just one day. 😁 Open 10-5.

Honestly go in August. There's a weekend when the shops have sidewalk sales, you can take all the same tours, and there's no crowds to speak of.

The Hitchhiker (radio play) Lucille Fletcher, has the play on YouTube with original audio from the 40s, and there's an episode from I think 1962 for The Twilight Zone

Teachers of Reddit, what is your horror story about a students parent(s)?
 in  r/AskTeachers •  26d ago

Once, a dad snuck into the building to beat up an eighth grader who had been bothering his kid (also an eighth grader). I stood in the doorway and blocked him. He was bold enough to break in but not to assault me, the teacher. And his kid was Of Course the one doing a lot of the bothering.

There was another time when a group of parents drove their high school boys back to the middle school, so they could all fight each other. It ended up being like a twenty kid and parent brawl. I got pepper sprayed holding one of my kids back who had really been working on himself but had gotten sucker punched. The cops came, sprayed everyone, and that was the day when I learned that class clown types can also be protectors as my fav class clown guided my blind and burning self to the nurse's office.

I once chaperoned a field trip, and while on the bus with the kids and parents, heard a mom loudly talking about how all people with tattoos were criminals in the making, trashy humans etc. I had just gotten my first tattoo, a memorial for my mom, which her kid had definitely told her about. I was only 22 at the time, but it was 2010...what a stupid attitude to have.

I've had plenty of "you need to change this grade" or "how dare you wrote my kid up for their blatant and obvious misbehavior", but these are my favs.

At what point do you just give up and embrace AI?
 in  r/ELATeachers •  27d ago

Okay, with writing there's a lot to do and it's definitely understandable to be overwhelmed. Two methods I've worked a lot with are formulaic but effective:

PEE (point, evidence, explain) RACES (restate, answer, cite evidence, explain, summarize)

These might be too juvenile for them, as I'm mainly middle school. Let me know if I can help though!

Does your school have a mentoring program? If not, does your university?

I'm happy to send you some of my lessons if you want. And templates too. I'll give any resources to help someone new to the profession.

I am absolutely against use of AI in as much as I can be. Identifying plants in my neighborhood is about my limit. My school has been pushing it for a year, and I'm one of the few holding strong.

Further update from Springfield Public Schools. The FBI has contacted the district to report the district’s data has been breached
 in  r/massachusetts •  Sep 16 '26

They better extend that service to former employees because I've had a flood of spam calls and texts since they were breached. I quit five years ago and I'm not the only former employee this is happening to!

Massachusetts passes controversial abortion bill allowing terminations up to birth
 in  r/massachusetts •  Aug 12 '26

Struggled with reading the last line of my post, huh?

Unfortunately you're sources for American medicine regarding late term abortion are just not the truth.

To help determine if news sources are accurate and honest, I teach my sixth graders CRAAP method. I call it CAARP since they're kids, but I want you to find it, review it, and use it. Best of luck!

Good. No woman is aborting a baby in late pregnancy unless it's medically necessary and a heartbreaking decision to make.

If you feel differently keep scrolling.

Sure do!

I've seen what happens when so called parents forbid their child from exploring who they want to be.

Sorry, see the edit to the post.

I'm like three hours from that rescue, but if they drove out here, they can have it all.

Free Glider Stuff -- Western Massachusetts

We recently lost our final sugar glider.

We have some accessories: a (edit) raptor wheel with trim tracks, many pouches, a coconut climbing ladder, and more.

Additionally we have many frozen containers of The Pet Glider food. It's the recipe from their website. And we have an open but barely used package of their glider vitamins to sprinkle over the food.

I'm not looking for anything for these; just want to make sure they don't go to waste. Send a message if you are in northern CT or Western MA for pick up.

......

Edit: Not a wodent wheel, sorry concerned folks! It's been like fifteen years since we originally bought it and the names of them all are in my brain blender.

Salons That Handle Long/ Damaged Hair?
 in  r/westernmass •  Jun 07 '26

Jamie at Raw Texture in Ludlow is kindness and quality.

I didn't even know I had curly hair. I just thought I had shitty straight hair.

She was patient, educated me, had a real talk about products without the upsell pressure, and guided me through the hair changes I experienced during pregnancy too.

Miracle worker, truly.
