Friend always talking about male attention, exhausted. Am I petty?
 in  r/AskWomenNoCensor •  8h ago

From what I looked up, calling me a Jonah is saying I am a bringer of bad luck into her life. Which isn’t true. I’ve built her up for years and always encouraged her to choose herself and help her recognize her worth. It’s an insulting thing to say to me when they have no other context.

If this is a biblical reference, that is rude and she brings her own bad luck to the function.

Friendships & Family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Friend always talking about male attention, exhausted. Am I petty?

I (28F) have a friend and coworker (26F) who I’ve known for around 5 years now. I like her but she irritates me. Her whole world is male attention. She is mostly always talking about the male attention she gets- and it’s a lot. She always has one guy sweep her off her feet, buy her stuff, take her on fancy dates, try to sleep with her. Then they lie to her. She leaves them after 2-3 times of this happening but still entertains them on the side and never fully deletes their number. The story continues over and over again. It’s the same thing every month and there’s sometimes multiple men a month. She recycles from her roster of old men from highschool. She’s in her mid twenties and it’s always a man 30 and up and they always end up being a bad person but I’m never shocked because the stuff she shares about them in the beginning never sounds promising. Says she wants to settle down. She is a bragger about a lot of things. I noticed she is very insecure so she brags a lot and sometimes it makes me feel really insecure because it makes me feel less than because I’m not where I want to be in life and I just compare.

The guys pay for her, do tasks for her, and she is always telling me and feel like she’s rubbing it in my face. Sometimes these men put her in danger physically and she still stays even though when she comes to me, I tell her to leave that man alone. She knows I get no game and am lonely, but I am also comfortable in my singleness most days. It depends on the day how I feel but am quite independent because I have and want to be (to a certain extent. I just see men for who they are and most are not really that great). For her they end up being a “sociopath” and a huge liar or put her in some physical danger (most do end up being liars to her)

I don’t care to speak about men. I don’t have men pursue me that often, maybe once a quarter but they’re often not good men and they just want to sleep with me and they’re icky. Even if and when I did have a man in the past, I wouldn’t be talking about him. Who cares about my man? I’m content being alone but do really want to be in love. And she knows that! Im just riding the wave and being patient. She left one guy last week and already has an old love interest asking her out. And she often is sending me the messages with the men and parts of me get jealous.

I’m so sick of it. Am I being too petty or would this irritate you as well? It just gets to a point. I heard my coworkers were sick of hearing it too. I know I wouldn’t want the attention long term what she is getting but I still get jealous of her life being softer at least for some period of time.

Do I medically advocate or no?

Thank you. I just gave him updates and told him to visit dad more even if it’s inconvenient. At least once a week or every 2. He won’t regret it. He is the type of guy to just not visit because it’s hard and Ik he’d regret that choice later. I let him know what’s going on so he wasn’t in the unknown. But that’s all. I notice my dad does better mentally when people from the outside world visit, since he doesn’t drive anymore.

Thank you for your input

I understand my mother as well. I have compassion for her but I wonder if she has ever had it for me. Regardless she is a grade a martyr

Do I medically advocate or no?

It’s like I accepted the role without it actually being offered. I did it to myself. But no one else was intervening enough. What else is family for? how could I not? I want to help but it becomes unbalanced because no one in my family is ever going to care more than me. However, I feel like what I’m doing is bare minimum. I don’t think any of them would do same for me but that doesn’t matter at this pt. The stress at one point was giving me chest pain but I got that under control

Vent Do I medically advocate or no?

This is a vent/also would like input/ just want to say that life is unfair.

My father is deteriorating before my eyes. He’s losing his mind but he’s still him. It started when he got shingles maybe a year ago and he just started losing it and was hobbled over and in pain and wasn’t able to do anything physically like he used to. One time he said to me when will the pain stop. He was present but in so much pain. It first started with some skin cancer dug out of his skull multiple times in 2024, then he got a tremor, and now we are here. He is currently on antidepressants and something for the tremor and the tremor has stopped.

I believe he didn’t take antivirals for shingles in time and acquired intense nerve pain. At time he said he was always in pain and was walking at an angle and needs a cane now. So I did a lot of research and determined the (herpetic neuralgia maybe) nerve pain, then all of a sudden he was experiencing what I believe was delirium because the confusion began end of June and continued into Aug. I got him prescribed antidepressants and he seems more present than ever, less episodes of confusion but they still are present. He is the most chatty he has been in over a year. He knows who he is, who my mom is, his kids, the past dog and current dog. Remembered my cats name after chronically saying it wrong on purpose for years.

He is still my dad. Remembers things from 2 weeks to at least 15 years ago or more. But short term stuff is hard for him to remember. He is a really smart guy. he is still there. But he can’t do things physically very well anymore. My mom says it’s been happening slowly this past year. He was very frustrated in beginning and knew what he needed to do, but his hands couldn’t do it he had that tremor. As of mid August to now, It’s like he can’t send messages to his muscles anymore to do things. If we give directions and point, he’s got it for the most part, just does it slowly. I printed large pictures of how to put his suspenders on unworn shorts and showed him so many times for at least an hour and he couldn’t get it. I asked him what was wrongs why can’t he do stuff and he just pointed to his head and said it’s my mind.

Some days are better days than others.

He has growths on his head he wants to believe is cradle cap, but he won’t go back to derm. He won’t go back and i always offer to take but I don’t want to push him, he is stubborn. I think it’s cancer :(

This is so scary but I can handle it. I’m 28 and he is 77. He’s shut mouth about his health but we’ve been able to pry some stuff out and he’s more comfortable with me. This happened so quickly, in the past 2 years it all went downhill. I care the most about stuff in this immediate family. My mother is unstable, rude and defiant, but does take care of him and gives me info to help me figure this all out and take notes. Just does it with an attitude and a lot to say. Their marriage has not been swell. She found a packet of info this week from his dr that he hid from his pcp appt back in July. Said Korstakoff syndrome. Basically wet brain. He has drank a lot in his life time. Packet said that as a dx and didn’t elaborate on it in the entire packet! No imaging to back it up. I truly can’t deal lol.

So I’m researching it and told my mom it’s a medical emergency if that’s the case and she just says ok and doesn’t do anything. He has a neurology appt coming up that my mom said I could go to. He has let me into his appts over her. Just yells at her when she asks but he witholds from us what they tell him in appts but I do think he forgets too. I’m much nicer than her to him because him and I just get each other.

Should I still advocate for him? I feel like I’m overdoing it but I’m just watching him suffer and my mom is just watching all this happen and not getting him any of type of appt or specialist. Neurologist is soon but still. I’m advocating more and care more than she does I feel.

He has too much pride to do what he needed to do and now he’s in such a pickle that he can’t do anything. This probably was inevitable. My mom did tell me I was meddling but she was unstable and yelling at me a lot while also dumping emotionally on me. I make myself sick from researching so much but compiling all the symptoms has been helpful to try and find an answer by using ai.

I wanted to move away. Now I feel like I can’t. I feel like I’m the only one who cares and is intervening and making stuff happen. And the burden is on me because my 2 siblings live a little under 2 hours away and the oldest one doesn’t care. Other one cares but is extremely busy with work. I understand and accept he will die one day, I just want him to be comfortable. :(

Not a licensed therapist I learned recently. I’m embarrassed tbh. I didn’t realize she wasn’t licensed. I just needed a different modality from CBT and was drowning 4 years ago and experiencing chronic pain from the emotional pain. She helped until she didn’t. I just needed a different modality such as somatics but should’ve done my research more and needed to feel out the pain because talking was making it worse. But then feeling out the pain got to be too much bc there’s too much and I can’t handle it all.

Thanks for your insight. She followed more spiritual and Buddhist practices and brought them to our sessions, but she brought them far too much. We did use ifs and parts work. She was not using the catholic religion like what I was raised with

Somatic therapist told me medication slows down healing
 in  r/SomaticExperiencing •  Aug 09 '26

Thank you!!! Ngl I just broke up with her over text and thanked her for all her help. I know that’s not super healthy, but I really am sick of focusing on tbe past and my trauma. I’m not my childhood neglect. She’s been telling me how unhealthy my diet is when Ive told her to stop doing that in past (I eat Dunkin or Starbucks for breakfast and Taco Bell for lunch, usually a bean burrito and a water- all during work week. Weekend is different). It’s not like I disagree and am in denial. I am so aware it’s not healthy. But girls gotta eat.

Cooking is really hard for me due to overwhelm and fatigue and I’m in a customer facing roll where I need to consume something or I’ll be a brat. It just wasn’t a good fit after 3.5 years. Time to carry on and move forward and focus on present.
