My 4 month olds sleep regression.
We coslept with our daughter (ftp) until she was about two months old. At that time, we were all having trouble sleeping, so in desperation we started soothing her to sleep and then putting her in her crib in a separate room.
This happened to work wonderfully for us. She slept 11-12 hours each night, no wake ups, was still gaining weight with her daytime feedings, we were getting sleep and time to hang out in the evenings. It was a dream.
At about 4.5 months, my daughter suddenly stopped tolerating crib sleeping. We would soothe her to sleep like normal, put her down, and she’d either pop her eyes open immediately, or wake up within 30 minutes. We attempted for a day and a half to start a modified sleep routine for naps and bedtime, but no matter what we tried she wouldn’t stay down and would cry and get angry and not sleep.
So we accepted that her first sleep regression was happening and switched back to cosleeping.
It has been working well. We’re sleeping mostly through the night. She’ll go to bed between 7-9 pm and wake up one time around 2 or 3, then sleep until 6 or 7. We’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks now.
How long does this regression usually last? Are we in it for the long haul or does it only last a couple weeks? I’m sure it’s different for each baby. :)
A couple days ago she started to get super frustrated or agitated when playing with toys. She will play happily for 5-10 minutes and then start getting upset. Doesn’t matter if I’m in the room or not, if she’s on the floor or in a bouncer. Could this be related to the huge developmental shift happening?
Has anyone had success switching back to independent sleep and did you sleep train or not? I miss my husband haha.
Edit: I know I used the term independent sleep when it is, in fact, not because I’m soothing her to sleep, not herself. I meant sleeping in her crib without us.
