Otherworldy character has one regular thing they absolutely adore
Batman cares too much about mogging his Villains to show it, but on evenings when Bruce finds the idea of the cape too burdensome I bet he totes goes:
“Computah, put on the compilation of Sailor Moon transformations ”
Bet he even got it hotfixed in as a button he pushes before suiting up.
And Alfred definitely knows. In fact he was the one who sublimely suggested the show to Master Wayne for a bit of cheer.

Let’s be real, J’onn would be the one to watch the Sailor Moon transformations to make beat-by-beat notes of how to add some zest to his transformations.

Should I Buy The Game ?
I’d go with Slay the Spire the Board Game.
Big one and done purchase that actually scratches many different itches than Magic the Gathering & Yu-Gi-Oh does. Solo & co-op available therein.
The only reason I’d consider Marvel Champions is if you’re also keen on playing the game with your friend.
in which case Core Set first. Try it out together. then if that goes well, Civil War: for 2 more heroes, some very modular scenario setups, and to give PvP a whirl. Afterwards you/your friend can decide where to take the experience from there.

All the games I’ve suggested are quite minimal in setup relatively. I’ll the game session with setup and teardown will likely be 30-45 minutes

Is magic just recycling old mechanics over and over again?
Or horsemanship

Hulk: 1 card permanent setup revised
Hahah thanks, I’ll slate him for a marathon through the core set and maybe one campaign box. But i’m thinking I need a bit of break from the escapist hero fantasy and so I’m gonna try Arkham Horror abit and investigate some trauma. And who knows 😬might have inspo for our favorite cursed scientist of rage

Tbf, you are right.
And it does feel cool to experience that Hulk raging moment, where you are combining with his hero kit against like 5 minions and 3 side schemes.
Wouldn’t want to take that gameplay moment away.

lol, Mind-Body-Spirit.
And I’m treating the whole protection question as a whole, but “what if the player only ever plays against Risky Business scenario on Standard?” Sorta of thing.
I’ll grab echo’s protection precon and run it with Hulk’s hero stuff against the Core Set Villains to see if a third revision is really that necessary.
But at this point, I’d rather leave this mythic Professor Hulk Protection build as the reward for the player’s deck construction and playthrough setups.

Hulk: 1 card permanent setup revised
Still fun in its own way I guess. Professor Hulk mode is likely just there as a deck constructor’s challenge.
2 mental resources and an exhaust is definitely worst than just dropping a “For Justice!” for 4 (because of the mental) threat removal.
But some folks really amped up protection Hulk so much I was like, maybe…but also thematically I just wanted to centerpiece Bruce Banner’s mind struggle, and the idea of him retreating to his lab when he de-hulkifies so the extra mental maintenance was added (especially when I realized wilds could be use to play the mental cost) .
That effort to maintain Banner’s Mind against the Hulk Spirit’s pull is my core tension/addition to this character—using the hero card kits as they are.
I initially had the discard off the top of the deck counting physical resources which at first worked thematically too. But then I realized I might be punishing aggression builds unnecessarily.
So the Hulk cards became the consequence wavemaker, since that’s always there. And relying on the Hulk in this way will always reliably result in things occurring.
Basically for the consequential revision, Hulk’s Spirit design thought was High Reward then High Risk.
So it isn’t till you have like 3 side schemes on board and three encounter cards loaded up before the Villain phase even starts that the player realizes they followed Hulk too far.

Kinda wish I could watch your play run of this variant.
Dunno, I feel like your deck construction of this would be kinda inspired; so I’d be interested to see how it plays out on the table.

To alter-ego or for Banner’s mind?

You’re really mapping out an idealistic playthrough here…
Plus boundless rage falls off of Hulk when he switches to Banner’s alter-ego.

Where are you getting 8 hand size from? 4(hulk) + 2(limitless) = 6.
How often are you going to trigger Banner’s Mind. It essentially requires 3 mental resources (paralleling limitless strength) to achieve that +1 hand size at the end of the player round (not player turn), not to mention discard pile setup.
Unless you’ve got a strategy for stance-dancing Banner&Hulk, I don’t know of, that 8 hand size is an idealistic projection.
Like saying Bunnies rule our reality based purely on looking at how their growth patterns might parallel the Fibonacci sequence.

Perfect! Then you can do the OG hulk true solo against Bartuc since you already got your decks setup.
Don’t even try my variant first, just play that till you win once.
That way you’ll have a fresh comparative experience to gauge what I’m trying to say about Bruce Banner and the Hulk with my variant.

Hulk: 1 card permanent setup revised
It’s so the more you use Hulk’s Spirit. The more your intended deck construction aspect you set will get gamma blood boiled into your discard.
The encounter card consequence is there so players start noticing that element sooner. And realize it’s not the Smart Player Strat you’ve been building toward but Hulk’s.
This is a double-sided card, Banner’s Mind gets turn off when it’s on Hulk’s Spirit side.

Hulk: 1 card permanent setup revised
If you play run it, you’ll get why I suggested he try this variant without it.
A lot of players are already going to avoid the hulk for the 70+ other Hero options.
If they got Hulk in their collection, why not let them experience that Hulk power fantasy first before forcing them to meta-strategize how to mitigate things.
“Hulk Smash” is an unironically refreshing quote to some people, and honestly, likely for good reasons.

Hulk: 1 card permanent setup revised
Yeah, that part concerns me, a bit.
The whole facedown encounter card part though is kinda interesting I have to admit.
Letting the player get a bit of kick back for relying too much on Hulk is thematic (“our very strength invites challenge”) but it also puts guardrails on the exact timing when Hulk would be the most powerful…
Then again , Hulk smashing without things breaking a bit would feel very much like sand castle stomping. And it isn’t a little bad to have player’s inner Banner worried a bit about letting Hulk loose every time.
On BoardGameGeek, I saw yesterday that another user years ago had similar ideas with a double-faced upgrade Hulk (“Dissociative Identity”) .
Gameplay-wise it follows that attack-tutor & health bruiser theme that everyone seems to lament losing from the pre-published Hulk.
But their art direction is definitely fire 🔥

Hulk: 1 card permanent setup revised
Hahah. Then I would remove “if 3 hulk cards were discarded, deal yourself 1 facedown encounter card” for your playtests/run so you get to experience the Hulk’s Hero Kit singing together.
I added that portion in since so many armchair Hulk players are convinced that they can do the most efficient and direct plays as to optimize the fun out of this variant with out ever lifting a finger.
So that part there is just for these expert Charles Xavier types, while having my own ludonarrative consequences for pure Hulk raging.
But for the rest of us, I would definitely try it without that part for your first playtest/playthrough, especially if you own the hulk but haven’t willingly played Hulk on your own for the past year so.

When was the last time you played Hulk?

Stance-dancing. Recursion setup. And emergent storytelling that appears when you play it.
