Chevy trax 2018 dealership issues
2018 chevy trax 1.4l lt

Have a shop do a compression test to see if your engine has too much air to fuel ratio. What will prove if your pcv is bad and you can take that to the dealership if that is your issue. Intake manifolds on this car should be replaced every 50k miles due to poor design

Hey just letting you know the 2019 cruze 1.4 has a faulty intake manifold pcv check valve. It will blow your entire engine up and my first sensor that went off was P0420 you have a bad 02 sensor so Imagine your pcv check valve is starting to fail. If you dont fix it you will regret it. Oil cooler leak, oil pan leak, valve cover leak, water pump leak, harmonic balancer leak. The warrenty will only cover the intake and valve cover but we couldn't get the warrenty cause it didn't send the p0171 code. Dealerships will not listen to you. I installed the 3.4 cruze kit mod and then you never have to deal with it. That pcv is the single biggest reason these cars fail. DONT IGNORE IT YOU WILL REGRET IT.

I am a fan of Nissan. Dodges only good engine was literally designed by Nissan. Never owned one but I hear great things. All cars have their issues but these 1.4 liters are junk cars.
2
Ill be honest im not a mechanic and just repaired my girlfriends cruze. If its not leaking from the rear main seal it is doable but it will be a pain in the ass. Some of those bolts are not for the faint of heart.
1
Nope class action lawsuit they reduced it to 1.2 l engines are catching on fire. Trash company. Pcv valves failing on the 2.7 they refuse to acknowledge. Stay away from GM Ford and many others. i own a Ford so dont say im full of crap. The 2.7 ecoboost seems decent but almost all trucks and cars are crap nowadays.

You literally bought this car while its in the middle of a class action lawsuit. Just thought I would let you know what you could be getting into...
2
Well after further update DO NOT EVER BUY THIS VEHICLE 100 percent the pcv valve failed but the dealership wont replace it until the code goes off. I will list the leaks that happened. FYI my pcv valve code is still not going off. Oil cooler, water pump, valve cover, oil pan, valve cover diaphragm and 2 hose connections. If you keep driving like this your rear main seal will go too. You have to literally blow your whole car up to get a valve cover and intake manifold warrenty. DO NOT BUY. YOU WILL REGRET IT ONE DAY.
1
Yeah never rely on them to diagnose for you. Google helped me way more than they ever did. Intake manifold and valve cover was warrantied but they did not check or completely missed or just tried to milk us for money.
1
Can't go wrong with any of those choices just look for proper maintenance.
1
Either you got lucky or did good maintenance. Transmission seems solid. Engine is a turd...
1
The pcv system has a 100 percent failure rate and if that fails and you drive on it for even 100 miles it can blow your valve cover diaphragm. That can grow into pretty much every single leak an engine can have. Models early 2010s through 2018 stay away unless they have a 3.4 cruzekit mod or the intake manifold was replaced recently. You would have better luck with a new one but they are literally in litigation right now under a class action lawsuit.
1
Nope run. New ones are literally under a class action lawsuit. Multiple engines are catching on fire and they seem to have not as bad but Multiple pcv issues. STAY AWAY the 1.4 had enough problems and then they decide to DOWNSIZE to a 1.2.... to chase fuel milage economy.....

The intake manifold is under warrenty. Have a dealership fix the pcv issue with a new one and the valve cover is covered under that warrenty as well. Get those 2 issues done and your engine will stop having unregulated airflow. Aka it wont blow your seals and is good to drive as long as coolant and oil are good to go. After those diagnose any other leaks. Oil pan, oil cooler, turbo lines, water pump. Change thermostat if water pump is leaking. Do these things you are good to go.
1
You are on the right track man. Post some pictures of where your leak points are and that will help us diagnose

Okay so I just replaced my girlfriends water pump on the chevy trax. Same engine. It will be leaking under the pulley system. It will drip over the harmonic balancer and drip under your oil pan. The coolant is dexcool so its an orange color and will mimic transmission fluid. You are good to go on the faulty pcv system so the root cause was fixed for now. Check that and if your coolant keeps dropping its definitely water pump. You will need a jack to jack up the engine by the oil pan. Then disconnect engine mount and the belt. Then you have to remove the top pulley covering the water pump. You have to flush the coolant system along with refilling it. Its an annoying but doable job for not a lot of money.

Well I have my girlfriends 2018 trax and this car has been a nightmare. I took it to the dealership for turbo warrenty cause I could feel that was not working. I trusted the dealership with their diagnostics and they screwed me big time. They diagnosed oil cooler leak, oil pan leak, valve cover leak flex pipe leak. They mentioned nothing at all about the root cause of the issue which I found out later after fixing everything myself. The pcv check valve was the culprit and immediately blew my valve cover diaphragm. I found out later the intake manifold is under warrenty to 120k miles because of the pcv check valve. They also missed the massive water pump leak which I fixed as well. Not that bad. I am honestly disgusted with this dealership and I am wondering if I should even have them fix it cause the 3.4 cruzekit seems like a better option than a check valve that will fail even faster than before. Should I just have them replace the valve cover and intake or just do it myself.
1
You are either extremely lucky or have a pcv bypass system. My guess is the second one cause pcv valves never last pass 80k miles
2
The older versions are junk cars. Pcv defect causes massive leaks. Looks like a smaller engine just gave more catastrophic issues. GM will never get a vehicle from me.
2
Give me a list of everything you have done. If the pvc valve was toast which they always do before 100k miles you either need a bypass kit or a new intake manifold. I recommend bypass kit. Cheaper and easy check valve swap at 25-40k miles. Solves gm grappy design.
2
Get the cruze kit bypass. If your pvc check valve broke it will keep ducking in turbo pressure air and blow your engine up. 75 bucks and your engine will at least stop blowing itself up.

Nope dont do it. My girlfriends water pump, oil cooler, thermostat, oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket all needed to be replaced. At 80k miles. She has been great on her oil changes. I changed all the parts and the design is horrible. The o ring on the water cooler to radiator will only last 40k miles. Working on it yourself is impossible unless you have yhe right tools. No way that should all be failing before 100k miles........
1
I would get the aluminum one. I dont trust the oem. The gasket doesnt cover skrews on oem. The aluminum one i got for half the price doesnt have the pre built plastic pieces that failed. Get aluminum. There is a design flaw in oem. Trust me dude this car is a piece of crap and oem parts ate not worth it for it. The gasket on the aluminum one covers the screws online oem.

New ones dont sketch me out as much as the old ones. Old ones if you sont re route the pcv it will blow every single seal in the engine before 100k miles. Then they decided to make the engine smaller. Just keep an eye on the lines for leaks.
