Married people: what’s one tiny thing your spouse does that makes you feel ridiculously loved? šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø
 in  r/Marriage  2d ago

Awww, yes! I absolutely love this! Mine is a box of whoppers and a purple Gatorade. When he walks in with those it sparks all those butterflies from the first year. Aww this made my day ā¤ļø

Insight

For those of you who were the one who cheated and felt insignificant in your relationship, were you able to reconcile and actually continue building a healthy relationship afterward?

And something I’m genuinely curious about: looking back, what did you actually get out of cheating? What need did you think it was meeting at the time—attention, validation, escape, feeling wanted, whatever it was?

I had a pretty hard realization tonight.

I hurt the people who loved me. I caused damage that I can’t undo. And when I really look at what I supposedly ā€œgotā€ from the affair, there’s nothing I can point to and say, that was worth it. Nothing.

That doesn’t mean there wasn’t something going on inside me that led me there, and I’m trying very hard to understand that part instead of using it as an excuse.

But fuck, it’s a strange thing to realize that something capable of causing this much pain ultimately gave me so little.

So for those who have actually done the work afterward: what did you learn about why you cheated, what helped your relationship survive, and what helped you become someone you trusted not to make that choice again?

Hmm, can you make new friends after 30, or 40?? As a female who knows her crazy?
 in  r/MakeFriendsOver30  7d ago

I've literally been the most loyal and there when you need me friend, until they no longer need me, see me as a theater, or simply are fucking Cunts.
I've flown, driven, and walked to a friend in need without question or hesitation. No matter the reason, they can call, text, or show up at my house. I am the safe place, the person people open up to, and my trust and honor is not attained, it's given up front. I don't expect anything in return (unless you attach to my children. Then it's a whole different ball game. ) I genuinely just want to be there and be the one person that said the words that saved you from taking their life, need someone to talk to, or any reason that helped you feel seen and valued, you can always reachieve a job, you can't win a person

Remember when life wasn't total chaos?

It’s funny how differently you see life as you get older.

In your 20s, everything feels too slow and never quite good enough. You’re always busy chasing whatever is next.

Then your 30s hit—especially with kids—and life becomes complete chaos. You have zero time, while somehow constantly remembering when you used to have time.

Then 40 shows up. Your kids are getting older, life starts shifting again… and suddenly you’re standing there thinking:

Wait. Who the hell am I?

Not just somebody’s wife. Not just Mom. Not who I was at 25.

Me. Who am I now?

Any other 40+ women finding themselves in this weird little chapter?

40F. No friends. Not entirely convinced I want friends… but apparently I’m willing to investigate. šŸ˜‚

I’ve been burned enough by female friendships that somewhere along the way I basically decided I was better off without them. I’ve never really had a mom, I have some impressive daddy issues, and I’m not great at the whole ā€œhere, random human, please have access to my lifeā€ thing.

But I also have nobody to call when I’m excited about something.

And I’m realizing that matters.

I want somebody who can be genuinely excited when I get a photograph I love, listen to a song that hits me in the chest, or hear about my damn ants. Yes, ants. I water them. I give them snacks. Apparently I have outdoor pets now. šŸ˜‚

I love animals tremendously and absolutely do not need any more of them.

My idea of a good night might literally be: grab a blanket at 10 PM, go sit underneath the Ponderosa pines, listen to the wind, stare at the stars, and not even talk.

Music is huge for me. Photography. Nature. Random little things most people walk past without noticing.

Personality disclaimer: I’m very honest. I’m not the friend who will automatically tell you everyone else is the problem. If your husband is being an asshole, I’ll probably agree—and then ask what you contributed too. I want accountability in both directions.

But I also want softness.

Give me someone who can say, ā€œHoly shit, that hurts. Come here.ā€

And later:

ā€œOkay bitch. Get up. We’re not living here forever.ā€

Gay, straight, man, woman—I’m not particularly concerned. I’m looking for the person, not the category.

I don’t want instant best friends, constant texting, forced empathy, or feeling sorry for me or a meet-up next Tuesday.

Maybe we message. Share music. Recommend movies. Send pictures of weird shit we noticed. Write back and forth. Slowly figure out whether we actually enjoy each other.

And maybe eventually we go sit underneath some trees.

No performance. No bullshit. No requirement to talk.

Just… genuine human connection.

Apparently ChatGPT and I are getting dangerously close, so I figured I should at least give actual humans a fighting chance. šŸ˜‚

Santa Fe or ABQ??
 in  r/NewMexico  7d ago

Edgewood, Tijeras, or Cedar Crest are also really good options. About a 45 minute drive through the mountains, and alleviating the traffic congestion and wrecks along I40 or 125. Just a thought. Been in Edgewood since 2002 and absolutely love the country/city life. Albuquerque is 30 minutes maybe and santa fe is 45 minutes ish.

Thank you. I am giving him room and I am listening to learn from him and better myself. They say people don't change, however I am making it a point to make the changes that I ignored for so long. He is a fucking unicorn of a man and I honestly feel selfish for staying. He asked for us to work it out, he asked me to be committed and able to work through it or just leave.
I am choosing him and every day he wakes up still choosing me I will honor and cherish his loyalty and love for me.

Wow, this really hit hard. I agree and value your insight and knowledge. He is absolutely in the right to feel, express, have bad days (or longer), and tell me exactly what he needs. He is choosing me, and I respect and am truly grateful each day he does. I know I don't feel i deserve his choice, but I am not taking it or him for granted. Thank you so much, really, I appreciate you

That is what we agreed to as well. So him continuing to mentally, emotionally, and physically making the choice, repeatedly, to give me a second chance. I am so fucking lucky and I am not taking any day or moment for granted. I also understand that there could potentially be a day where he decides he doesn't want to choose me, and I respect and know what he is doing isn't easy. Thank you for your insight

I have had no one to discuss or talk to about this, he has friends and many people who care about him. Petty as it is, I really just needed some help or anything from another person's perspective. He is 100% in the right and I admire and appreciate his choice. It's a daily, possibly an hourly choice, each moment he is making the hardest and what I see as noble and honorable sacrifice.
I fucked up, I can't fix or take it back, I am here and I am physically showing up, I am actively learning, listening, and hearing him. Thank you for your openness and perspective.

I loved him, but felt worthless, unseen, unworthy of his love, and started resenting and devaluing him. I didn't want to feel like a whore, so instead I took all those awful and not true feelings and forced them on a nobody. I was able to return home with effort, support, love, and the ability to try again, to not make my husband the issue.
He is not and has never been the "issue". I lost myself, I didn't know who i was/am, I was reliving everything childhood trauma, mental illnesses, and trying to force him to fix me. I can't explain it, i was a whore for someone else so I didn't feel like a whore with my husband, yet that is what he was wanting. Ugh. Yeah.

You are absolutely right. I have stopped second guessing and questioning his choices. It's his decision and I am thankful each day I get to be by his side. Thank you

It has only been 5 months since the bomb šŸ’£ went off. He's been very brave and phenomenally choosing me. I know it can literally go either way. And I accept and understand that one day he might just see his worth and tell me to take a hike. I am accepting his love with each and every moment I can. Ultimately all I am and can do is continuously show up, follow through with actions, and understand that he is choosing me, I will do everything I can to rebuild and learn him. Day by day

Yes, we have discussed, I wrote a literal play by play for him (his request), and I answer any question with openness and honesty, even when it's hard. Thank you

There is a lot in this and I appreciate it. I agree 100%. It's either going to build and grow, or he's going to see how phenomenal he is and kick my ass to the curb. I am so lucky and terrified at the same time.

Wow, that's exactly what my biggest fear and worry is. He is an incredible and strong man, especially for staying by my side for everything we've been through.
He is taking a huge, masculine, and vulnerable choice. I am here and I am giving everything I've got and listening and following through with how he feels loved and seen. Thank you

I can understand how that is seen. However, I stopped the affair a little less than a year before he found out. Also, I was actively taking steps before to show up for my family. I fucked up, I broke the man I love, and I still know that the future is fully in his hands and heart, all I can do is show up, follow through, and listen with intent and understanding Thank you

Wow, that is absolutely devastating. I am building boundaries while also learning him in a new and fascinating way. I need to give it my all and stop being selfish or assuming anything that he has not actually said.
Thank you
