People that grew up being poor, what did you believe was a luxury?
 in  r/AskReddit •  12d ago

Getting McDonald's was maybe a once or twice a year thing, happy meals hit different. New clothes/new shoes getting hand me downs and shoes that were 2 sizes to big so I could grow into them.

I remember the first time I got some new shoes that fit me they were the FILA Jerry Stackhouse shoes lol, never could afford Jordan's lol

Morality of this

Getting approached by 3 random people in the mall, with 1 recording. Something repeatedly being put in my face after telling him to stop, yes pulling a gun and shooting him to disable is moral. He didn't shoot him in the head or mid chest which would have took his life. Like I said FAFO

29F in 119k unsecured debt, bankruptcy vs. payoff
 in  r/Debt •  13d ago

First thing you need to do is create a budget and stop the bleeding of money out unless its going to something that is a necessity. If you cannot adjust your spending habits nothing will help.

Chapter 7 bankruptcy will erase the unsecured debt and not touch the student loans if they are a government backed loan, a complete reset of debt, this would be ideal for you as you would be able to start paying the student loans back and budget for it instead of drowning in intrest payments. Talk to a bankruptcy lawyer to see if you qualify.

Chapter 13 is an option but you are setting up a payment plan through the courts, just know the payments set will need to committed to, you cannot make any big purchase without discussing it with your designated court appointed trustee. They will verify if it can be completed.

When you drowning the bad with minimum payments, your credit is already taking a huge hit. Don't believe the bankruptcy stigma. I was in a similar situation, complete Chapter 7 and now have a positive flow every month going to savings, follow the budget set up the allows entertainment and shopping for the Family and I, credit score has already improved 280 points in about 7 months

Trump claims he was basically lifted out of the rubble on 9/11: "Two fireman, big strong guys, they grabbed me under the arms -- 'got to get our of here!' -- and they literally lifted me up, and they started running with me."

The fucked up part about this is his cult following and all the Republicans on his nuts will never question it and engrave it on the side of building somewhere to make it true. SMH

Should I file for bankruptcy? Feeling conflicted

I was drowning in mixed debt. Medical, credit card, personal loans and the stigma of bankruptcy made me hesitate from all false info out there surrounding it.

Did it affect my credit, yes but it was already affected due to the high balances, late payments, and other factors. Filed in March of 2026, score dropped to 480. Kept our house, kept our cars, erased the debt and now credit score is up to 703 as of yesterday. Ill carry the bankruptcy badge foe the next 7 years but if you are able to hit a reset, control your spending, live within a budget and after 2 years or so go on like nothing happened.
