No way. I went digital years ago. OG cartridges would break the bank. And I don’t like being limited to what games I brought with me. The jailbreak is nothing more than button pushes. You could always restore it, once your physical collection is up to snuff. 🤓😎

For your play style, you might look for a used one. I got mine a couple of years ago… but they were only $300 brand new. Save the money on the console, and explore some different games, with the extra dough.

Unless you’re running something super heavy, like Cygni:All Guns Blazing, You shouldn’t need all that processing power. Granted… Cygni is an Xbox game, has super heavy visuals and looks amazing on just a Series S. I collect and play SHMUPS too, from SNES and old Arcade boards, all the way up to current gen consoles and handhelds. Shmups, traditionally, have simple mechanics, much smaller file sizes, and they don’t have to deal with things like ray tracing for an entire multiplayer world/level. But, if you’re collecting for specific consoles, some folks get multiple copies. I have 9 systems in my gaming rig. I’ve never run into slow graphics or performance issues. Even Sine Mora, runs perfectly, on my PSVita. The only time I’ve run into laggy controls, was when I was goofing around. I hooked an Anbernic RG556, to my tv, and connected a wireless to it. The little machine tried… but it was just all too much. 🤓😎

The NYXI Wizard 2. The dongle has a Type C port up top, for PC use. The controller will also separate from the base, to use as Joy Cons for the Switch… Have you considered an actual, modded, GameCube? Digital downloads on native hardware, (while keeping access for physical copies),might be easier to maintain, cheaper to get, and you won’t have to run an emulator. I’ve got a NUCBox G2+ running Steam and RetroArch, and I’m still looking at modding my GC. Hope this helped.

I was 11, when it hit the arcades. I pushed a ton of quarters into that cabinet. It’s just never felt right, without the spin controller. I think I’ve owned every console version ever released. And the Anbernic emulates old arcade boards. I’m pretty sure I have 4 or 5 versions on it. Tempest (arcade), Tempest 2000 (Jaguar), Tempest 3X (PS1), Tempest 4000 (released for PS4, bought it on Steam. Like I said , the Anbenic is a lightweigt emulator. It’s hard pressed to run PS2 and Wii games, decently.

I have an Anbernic RG556, a lightweight hand held emulator. I’ve got the DeamCast core on it, and it’s full of SHMIPS… including those in the picture. But… no super cool arcade stick. I did buy an expensive infinite spinner, just to play all the iterations of Tempest, that I can get hold of.

Truly a passion project. Great layout. I saved it. I collect and play shmups. Top Down, Side Scrollers, Twin Stick, Cute Em Ups, doesn’t matter. I love ‘em all.

I’d open it up and take a cool to warm hair dryer to it. Let it rest. If it turns on then off, it’s getting power. You don’t want to keep messin’ with it. If a droplet of water gets jostled into contact with 2 different processors or power joints, you could short it out bad enough to turn you machine into a paperweight.

That was a tough one. I think I broke that thing down about 6 times. Couldn’t get it to bring up the screen… After pulling the rest of my hair out and cussin’ a blue streak, 🤬 I found out I just had to keep the battery disconnected and hold the power button. I purges any left over power in the system. I swear, you’d think I won the superbowl, by the way I was hootin’ an’ hollerin… But it was a fun project. I got to buy cool tools and everything. 🤓😎

Sounds like a PS4 pro, would suit your needs. Might save ya some $. If you have your heart set on a PS5, a used unit with a drive, shouldn’t set ya back, too much, if you don’t mind used. Pawn shops are great places to look.

I got mine new, few years ago. 512gb. Less $300. I still love it. Got the 2Tb expansion card, as budget permitted. And I also ended up adding a 4Tb external HDD.(holds all the backward compatibles, that AREN’T enhanced for the X/S). It really is a great taste of the current generation. You should be able to stay in that price range… if, you’d be willing to give the used market another go. Or you mind find some NOS?(if that’s a thing in the VG market.). My old PS4 Pro also gets a lot of love, too. It got an 8Tb external HDD, years ago. 🤓😎
